TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN
Don Feder's Cold Steel Caucus ^ | 02/14/2008 | Don Feder

Posted on 02/16/2008 1:49:07 PM PST by Witch-king of Angmar

I just got back from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where conservatives began lining up behind a man who’s been sticking it to us for years. By a process of self-hypnosis, many have managed to convince themselves that McCain is actually one of us.

Not for nothing did Benjamin Disraeli call conservatives the stupid party.

What part of John McCain do we not get? McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman, McCain-Edwards -- among other socialist, anti-speech, open-borders, enviro-Marxist measures he’s co-sponsored with the hardcore left of the Democratic Party over the years.

If Il Duce had served with him in the United States Senate, there would be McCain-Mussolini.

Which would you choose - Russian roullette with a 20-chamber revolver and a single bullet (McCain), or Russian roullette with a Colt 1911A and a full clip (Hillary! and Obama).

I'd choose not to put the gun to my head in the first place.

I wouldn't--- and WON'T--- play.

So nice analogy... but no sale, chief.

Those who recognize McCain for what he is (which is no conservative) but simply prefer him to the alternative (Hillary or Obama). These types (correctly) assert that moderate SCOTUS justices are preferable to ultra liberal ones, and that McCain is far more likely than his Donkey opponents to take the fight to our Islamic enemies. They also understand that GOP nominees being less-than-conservative is nothing new (Nixon, Ford, GHWB, Dole, and GWB....to name but a few), and that if they wait around for the next conservative Republican nominee they very well could be waiting for...ever.

And there are those of us who recognize that voting for an unmitigated mediocrity like McCain is to continue to enable an intellectually dishonest, highly dysfunctional, self-serving democrat-lite GOP. In short we've become desensitized to their crying wolf every four years using the "democrat-as-boogey-man" ploy. In fact, it would be refreshing if, for the first time in OVER TWENTY YEARS, they could give us a candidate we could actually vote for instead of effectively voting against his opponent.

The only reason I will vote for McCain is he is the least of the 3 evils with which we are presented. Do you think Hillary! or Obama will care about the Military?? McCain has 2 sons currently in the Military. He will care more than the 2 evil Dems.

You do not defeat the enemy by becoming them.

You do not defeat your enemy by dying before they do, either... Which not voting for McCain WILL bring to the GOP.

People seem to forget TWO very critical things coming up in the next Presidential term:

1. Fairness Doctrine. With a Democrat majority in Congress, and a Democrat in the Oval Office it's a lock. Say goodbye to Rush, Hannity, Savage, even Fox News (as moderate as it is). It's going to be all Air-America, all CNN/CBS/MSNBC all the time. How do you manage to compete politically on a national level with that kind of disadvantage. As bad as it is now, it'll be a LOT worse when (not if, WHEN) the Fairness Doctrine is brought back.

2. Census and redistricting. With a Democrat congress and a Democrat in the White House, and the census in 2010, redistricting will be gerrymandered such that conservatives will be in a minority for at least two generations, if not forever. And there won't be any branch of government willing to challenge this action.

You have to survive to fight your enemy. The "No McCain, NO WAY!" faction is simply wanting to commit suicide. The wise soldier lives to fight another day rather than die in a "fix bayonets and charge that SMG nest!" lunacy...

You make McCain sound much better than he actually is. Then again people on my side probably make him sound worse than he actually is...such is political discourse these days.

When McCain’s Gang of 14 struck, people across this forum howled that they would never vote McCain, that McCain had sold out the Republican party and the president. Now, they claim, he is our last hope. It’s like being in the twilight zone. It is amazing how quickly moral indignation has given way to hypocrisy (cloaked, as it usually is, as “pragmatism”) and contempt to an embrace. Is what is left of conservatives really this bloodless? It is not when the choice is easy that principles are on the line. Nor, even, in difficult choices. It is when the choice is impossible, when there is no right answer that the truth is revealed, as though by fire. And the truth is, there is no courage, no fight, no honor, and no backbone in what is left of the conservative base. If this is so, there is little hope for our country and I thank God more than ever that it is not in it that my hope lies.

You are absolutely right! There seem to be some freepers who think a Clinton or Obama presidency will teach Americans a lesson, and voters will return en mass to a conservative republican candidate. What they don’t seem to realize is that a Clinton or Obama presidency will get thousands of Americans killed and will so weaken America’s national security so that our country will wind up fighting this war on Islamic murders right here at home! Obama may be a decent fellow, but his left wing policies will ruin us. Because he is young and smart, he may learn from some who are older and wiser in world affairs, but, as some radio commentator said, ‘this isn’t amateur hour!’ We are in a war and any failure to realize that could be catastrophic. Mrs.Clinton, on the other hand, is the single worst person who could ever be elected president of our country. Not only would her election bring back all of the sick, sorry and incompetent faces that made us throw-up for years, but once again, our national defense secrets would be for sale to our enemies. I urge freepers to remember the Clinton years, to remember that Clinton did nothing to protect America, to remember that he not only disgraced his office with Monica Lewinsky, but sold out his country on just about every defense matter to come before him. What we all need to ask is, would we be in this war against AlQuada if Clinton had fought back in 1992 or in any of the years of his presidency? By doing nothing in the face of attacks, he allowed AlQuada to prosper and advance to what eventually happened on 9/11. Democrats, because they are fools, blame George Bush, but the real blame belongs to Clinton and to his weak and incompetent appointees. To even consider Mrs.Clinton as a possible president borders on treason. Everything that can be done to keep her from the democrat nomination should be done, even if that means temporarily supporting Obama.

we need to get ready for 2012/2016... No doubt BUT can you foresee the results of a Democrat President and a Democrat Congress... 1- A ruining/mandated/enforced Health care system 2- A ruined Iraq generating terrorists like flies 3- Iran with nukes / Israel at war 4- Taxes out the wazoo 5- Taxpayer funded abortions even after birth 6- Global warming police 7- Jimmy Carter sweaters / sky high interest rates and MALAISE 8- Gun confiscations... for the children in our Universities 9- Fair doctrine redux 10- Another 9/11...but bigger The alternative is too scary...I’ll hold my nose and vote McCain.

please explain how Mccain isnt going to do any of those things. He pretty much has plans similar to 1,3,4,6 and 9 the rest is a 50/50 chance

You don't get it, DO YOU? You don't HAVE a choice. You don't choose, you LOSE. Guaranteed.

If the Democrats take the Oval Office, I expect you to simply be silent about any and all actions of that occupant. You forfeit your rights. And I trust you'll crack open your wallet and pay for MY increased taxes.

You don't get to choose not to play - you either choose an 82% ACU Republican or choose (either by vote or ignoring to vote) an 8% ACU Democrat. Your choice.

So you're saying that someone with an 82% lifetime ACU rating is the same as someone with an 8% rating?

it didnt take him long to tank in his rating, I am sure if you look at his rating in 2010 it'd be close to 8% too

I've posted this many times on other threads, but I think it needs to be here, too:

McCain: 82% lifetime American Conservative Union rating
Obama: 8% lifetime American Conservative Union rating
Hillary!: 9% lifetime American Conservative Union rating

"When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it.

"Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything.

"I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.'

"If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.

President Ronald W. Reagan

I think I'll agree with Reagan - I'll take the 80% with McCain rather than hold out for the 100% that is NO WHERE TO BE SEEN, and end up with an 8% Obama. THAT is the Conservative position.

The only way for conservatives to come out on top of this one is voting Republicans into Congress and a Democrat into the WH.

Otherwise, we lose.

"...destroy America by electing Hillary. "

Don't you dare blame conservatives for this result. The GOP faithful were warned. McCain is not a conservative and I refuse to vote for that slimeball just because he's got an "R" by his name.

This year, the theme song is "Go pound sand"

Not one more inch to the left

Don’t give me lifetime, give me the last 8 years.

I quite agree. If the Constitution has to be destroyed, let a Republican do it.

Exactly, because a Republican, (even John McCain) will destroy it less than a Democrat and there may be hope of restoring it.

No I don't. Name a tax increase he's voted for other than on cigarettes. Please. Income tax increase? None. Corporate tax rates? Capital gains tax increase? Nada. If you can't, I expect you to retract your claim that he'll raise taxes.

Taxation ALONE is enough of a reason to vote for McCain over the alternatives.
