When McCain’s Gang of 14 struck, people across this forum howled that they would never vote McCain, that McCain had sold out the Republican party and the president. Now, they claim, he is our last hope. It’s like being in the twilight zone. It is amazing how quickly moral indignation has given way to hypocrisy (cloaked, as it usually is, as “pragmatism”) and contempt to an embrace. Is what is left of conservatives really this bloodless? It is not when the choice is easy that principles are on the line. Nor, even, in difficult choices. It is when the choice is impossible, when there is no right answer that the truth is revealed, as though by fire. And the truth is, there is no courage, no fight, no honor, and no backbone in what is left of the conservative base. If this is so, there is little hope for our country and I thank God more than ever that it is not in it that my hope lies.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
......is when the choice is impossible, when there is no right answer that the truth is revealed.......
We are in that process now. For many here the choce is impossible. To temper impossible it seems courageous to do nothing.
The truth will be revealed as making a courageous decision and deciding to oppose the evil that is liberalism. Voting against liberalism is not evil. It can be idealistic. It is by definition conservative.
