BOYCOTT BERKELEY (start of ping list;)
Drango | 2/16/08 | Drango

Posted on 02/16/2008 12:29:39 PM PST by Drango

I started to make a list of Berkeley firms to boycott. I don’t lightly believe that firms should pay the economic price for their city council views, but these firms are the enablers of one of the most repugnant regimes in our history and they unfortunately will be innocent casualties in the campaign. The city could not run without their tax dollars. Thus the boycott is on!

Obviously the German run Bayer, Berkeley’s largest corporate job source is a top choice. http://www.bayerus.com/communities/berkeley/index.html

http://www.jettonconstruction.com/

www.ddorn.com

http://techsafety.com/contactus.html

http://studiobfilms.com/index.html

www.techsoft3d.com

http://www.techsoft3d.com/company/team.html (see bio on Brook Aaron Seaton)

http://www.sightspeed.com/company/our-team

OK how does a boycott work in practice? Let’s use sightspeed as an example. First we dig for information. Here is what 10 minuets of hunting got me. What can others dig up? http://www.sightspeed.com/business/customers

dig, dig, dig… http://digitalmediaupdate.blogspot.com/2007/10/sightspeed-open-for-business-sightspeed.html

Peter D. Csathy email: pcsathy@sightspeed.com; CEO of SightSpeed Inc. (www.sightspeed.com); …. live ….., in sunny San Diego, California; …)

Second we email all the principals. A polite letter. State our case. Ask them to leave Berkeley. Repeat. CC to the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce and the press. We FIRMLY ask them to leave Berkeley. If there is no response we escalate. Email their customers. Escalate. Perhaps we put boots on the ground and picket.

Polite, dignified and steady pressure. Times 10. Times 100. If you are interested please bump this thread or Freepmail me. Eagles up.

A side note: I don’t believe snark or extremely hot rhetoric will achieve what we want. It’s fun to blow off steam here, real fun, but the economic boycott should be above that to achieve success. There are perhaps 100 other Berkeley firms that we need to email or call. From emailing Hilton and asking them to sell the Doubletree at the Berkeley marina, to asking associations not to have a meeting at HS Lordships http://www.hslordships.com/

Let's partner with MoveAmericaForward, GOE, HotAir, LGF and others. Who’s in?

“Their constituents who voted for them are the ones who keep these America haters in office.”

Looks like it’s time for a recall election.

This is an honest question: Where were all the business owners condemning and opposing the actions of their City Council if they disagreed with them? In a city like Berkeley every business owner who disagreed with the council should have been more vocal in their disagreements IF they disagreed. Where was the outrage at the time from the local businesses when they saw how out of hand this was getting? I’m sure there were some, but there should have been a huge backlash from those who opposed the council’s nutty ideas. I haven’t heard nor did I see any during Code Pink’s uprising has anyone?

“Where were all the business owners condemning and opposing the actions of their City Council if they disagreed with them?”

How do you know they didn’t? Business owners are more likely to write terse letters to the City Council, do you think the Bezerkely CC was going to publish them?

"In a city like Berkeley every business owner who disagreed with the council should have been more vocal in their disagreements IF they disagreed."

Well, that's your opinion. Maybe each followed the path they thought was best, working through their Chamber, their contacts at the city, directly with their elected CC representative, etc.. Next time maybe they could forward reports of all their calls, letters and activities to you beforehand for approval.

"Where was the outrage at the time from the local businesses when they saw how out of hand this was getting?"

Some people think that expressing outrage in the way you define it makes one look like a goofball.

"I’m sure there were some..."

Probably, but we can't let a little collateral damage to a few supporters get in the way of our scorched earth battle plan to destroy anyone within arms reach to make ourselves feel better.

"...butt there should have been a huge backlash from those who opposed the council’s nutty ideas."

Well that's your opinion, General Patton. Maybe it would be better if you were in charge of everyone then things would get done exactly as you see fit.

"I haven’t heard nor did I see any during Code Pink’s uprising has anyone?"

Some people prefer to work behind the scenes. Just because you don't clearly see them from your FR screen and easy chair half a continent away doesn't mean they aren't there.

Mr. Garret,

I would beg to differ with your opinion that you are “the only group opposing the city counsels actions”.

You might want to start by reviewing the multitude of addresses CC’d in this email in re-assessing that stance. Next if you would like I could forward some of the 13,000 emails I have received from Americans all across the nation, Iraq and Afghanistan who have asked me to continue on with my/our boycott until Berkeley understands clearly that we will not stand for them calling the USMC (or any other branch of the armed services) “war criminals”, “murderers”, “assassins”, etc.

YOUR high schools supplied (let them take off from school if they wanted to demosntrate against the Military) the foul mouthed children who I witnessed verbally assault elderly women by screaming “you Nazi c***t, get out of Berkeley”, I watched two of their radical, hate filled teachers, whom your city pays to teach these kids, direct these indoctrinated charges to surround and verbally assault elderly veterans screaming the most vile profanities. Where were you while this abomination was going on. Where exactly were you voicing you opposition to the City Counsels position, from underneath your desk? You most certainly were not anywhere near the City Hall.

If you do believe that the City of Berkeley owes the military an apology then write a letter to them clearly stating that position on Chamber of Commerce stationary and cc everyone on this list, otherwise I am afraid that I and most of these other patriots, will come to the conclusion that you have simply written this wimpy, undecipherable gobbledygook in the hopes that we would feel sorry for the poor people of Berkeley and go away.

You have sorely misjudged your opponents. We stand in defense of our warriors, those men and women who are willing to die for us and our way of life. We owe them no less than to stand up to any and all who mistreat and besmersh their good name, and include in that group those who stand on the sideline rather than firmly, tall and proudly in their name with us.

No, Mr. Garret ( I see that you finally had the courage to add your name to the message below, in that when you first contacted me, you simply went by the name “assistant”), this is far from over.

In fact an appropriate way of phrasing this email should have been:

Now that we have your attention...

I have been contacted by Fortune 500 & 400 companies that wish to join in the boycott, in that they too are disgusted with the un-American antics of YOUR elected officials. They are two of the newest additions which already include three vintners, a Fortune 500 Head Hunter recruiter, restaurant suppliers, clothing manufacturers,
and a day labor provider. The list is growing as I recieve an additional 100-150 calls a day and an additional 500 emails. Further I am being interviewed on numerous prominent radio programs wherein I will ask for more companies to join us in the boycott.

YOUR city seems to be hell bent in repeating the sins of the past when you spit on and cursed those returning from Vietnam. WE are hell bent on teaching you that you and your city will never again be allowed mistreat and besmirch the heroes of the United States Armed Forces.

Good People Sleep Peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Cordially,

PS If in fact you learned that “Berkeley is the birthplace of free speech” in school somehwere, I would suggest that you ask for a full refund of your tuition

That is what you or I would do in the situation, but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any such apparent actions from the business community in Berkeley. I’m open to any such evidence. Wouldn’t it be part of the public record?

Another excellent letter Brian.

As we all know, economic boycotts are extraordinarily difficult and seldom work. The left tries them and so does the right. Southern Baptist tried a boycott of Disney ‘cause of their pro homosexual stance. Didn’t work.

However, Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition has been shaking down industry for years and has lined his pocket with a lot of loot disguised as contributions. So it is possible to achieve corporate change.

Let’s take Bayer for example. Their diabetes meters CONTOUR® and BREEZE®2 are wildly sold and likely an excellent money maker for them. It would take a massive effort to get the word out to boycott those diabetes meters and impact sales. Just massive. Still, as you suggest, it only takes one or two CEO to take pride in his military and disgust at Berkeley to pull his firm out. And the local small business people can also move in disgust of the City Council.

It’s now a domestic battle and a culture war. We must win however long it takes. EAGLES UP.

“...make ourselves feel better.”

I don’t think anyone should want to make themselves feel better. I think we should pour all our support, respect and give due dignity to our Marines who are on the front lines which hopefully will make THEM feel better about doing their job. It is the very least we owe them.

Melas, those so called innocent people vote and how did they vote. Did they vote to put those in power that are going along with this protest by Code Pink? Did they vote for the City Council?

If they did they are just as much to blame. When it comes to this kind of thing happening, the only ones innocent are the Marines.

You’re proud of this? Is this how you normally act and come across? How terribly sad. You’ll be in my prayers, and you have my deepest sympathy.

You can spin it however you want, but you’re just all aflush at thought of causing strife and pain.

Those of faith are told to give our enemies a cup of water in Jesus’ Name but that is different than providing them aid and comfort and continued financial support.
