MILWAUKEE - Barack Obama said Friday that the country must do "whatever it takes" to eradicate gun violence following a campus shooting in his home state, but he believes in an individual's right to bear arms.

Obama said he spoke to Northern Illinois University's president Friday morning by phone and offered whatever help his Senate office could provide in the investigation and improving campus security. The Democratic presidential candidate spoke about the Illinois shooting to reporters while campaigning in neighboring Wisconsin.

The senator, a former constitutional law instructor, said some scholars argue the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees gun ownerships only to militias, but he believes it grants individual gun rights.

Barack Hussein Obama is an enemy of the Second Amendment. No other way to put it. His record proves it

Yeah, right. Spoken by someone who is on the Board of the Joyce Foundation, one of the most anti-gun of all, and is pushing the UN IANSA junk.

Yeah, right. I believe him. s/

Militia is every sound-minded, non-felony convicted citizen period.

Even though I bet many felons fought in the Revolutionary, 1812, and Civil war.

Yup, tracing the bullets ~ how utterly bizarre.

Better that students in Illinois be required to carry a piece to class so that this doesn't happen again.

--wonder what good he thinks that would have done?

I don't think he's stupid enough to believe that anything would have helped in this case, but the point of giving each individual bullet a serial number is to make bullets too expensive for anyone to shoot. Unfortunately, all three viable candidates for the presidency are likely to support this nonsense. We must find a way to retake Congress.

Bill

Ok Osama, give us CONCEAL CARRY then! I’m an NIU Alumnus class of 95 and I call for an empty holster protest on campus ASAP.

Besides, the real issue is not the guns; it’s the prescription drug the shooter was taking for depression. Ironically, this guy was a criminal justice major and a very good one.

What I’d like to know is how he got from U of I Champaign (where he was enrolled at grad school) all the way to DeKalb without anyone knowing what was going on. It’s a good 3 hrs drive, if not more.

BAN THE DRUGS; KEEP THE GUNS!

Barry Hussein is merely rehashing the rhetoric of gun grabbers. Gun control actvists say they support the 2nd Amendement. They just say they support laws that go after “illegal” guns.

Obama is for an individual Right to Bear Arms like I'm for mandating Cross Dressing on Friday nights.

Note that questions now being raised about the 2nd A. were actually resolved when the 14th A. was ratified, in my opinion. More specifically, John Bingham, the main author of Sec. 1 of the 14th A., included the 2nd A. when he read the first eight amendments as examples of constitutional statutes containing privileges and immunities that the 14th A. applied to the states. So there is no doubt in my mind that the 2nd and 14th Amendments protect the personal right to keep and bear arms from both the federal and state governments as much as any other constitutional privilege and immunity protects other personal rights.

See the 2nd A. in the middle column of the following page from the Congressional Globe, a precursor to the Congressional Record.

Note that the referenced page is dated for more than two years after the 14th A. was ratified. So Bingham was evidently reasurring his colleagues about the scope and purpose of the ratified 14th Amendment.

” c. ammunition for handguns and assault weapons?

I would support banning the sale of ammunition for assault weapons and limiting the sale of ammunition for handguns.”

Wow. so now “assault weapons” will be based on caliber?
I can’t use my Remington .223 bolt rifle because it’s the same caliber as an M-16 ? great logic there. very effective.

While we’re here, has everyone heard of Obamas Global tax proposition that also includes a WORLD WIDE ban on “Small Arms”?

“He said he would support federal legislation based on a California law that would facilitate immediate tracing of bullets used in a crime.”

Barry, explain to us how this “new federal law” would have prevented the mass shooting yesterday?

The “right”that’s being discussed in the second is the peoples right to bear arms. plus there is a mention of the militia

This guy is very serious about restricting gun rights. Think in terms of Chicago. That’s the correct flavor.

Yes, I know that. What I was attempting to point out was the word "regulated" as used in the 2nd means "well oiled, smooth operating" like an 18th or 19th Century Regulator clock. It does not mean regulating firearms as Obama (and most gun-gabbers) seems to think.

If Empty Suit actually supports the individual right to keep and bear arms, then why didn't he sign the Comgressional/Dick Cheney amicus brief in Heller, which was filed recently. Here's the link; the signers are listed alphabetically in the appendix:

My M1-A in .308 caliber, one of the most common hunting and sporting calibers, would also be inccapicated by Empty Suit's ammo ban.
