As Hong Kong shivers through its second-longest cold spell since 1885, scientists point to global warming to explain the abnormal cold weather phenomenon worldwide.

"We are seeing extremely unusual weather across the world," said polar researcher Rebecca Lee Lok-sze.

the recent increase if powerful hurricanes

The GW model itself does not show any effect whatsoever on hurricanes. The main effects are north of that zone, and similarly for the southern hemisphere. The Arctic will see the most major changes according to the model, which I suppose includes the coldest cold snap in eight years just last week.

And, alas, the beauty of global warming. Its effects can attributed to anything.

I’m with you...bring back the hole in the ozone scare...it was much easier giving up my Right Guard.

Maybe for you; it cost me a job of 18 years.

Same here in Michigan.
Lake Michigan has ice almost all the way across. Only happened twice in the last 50 years.

It is also a perfect mechanism for Marxism.

And that's the point. Science-fiction writers have long noted that the only threat that would defeat nationalism on Earth would be an invasion by extra-terrestrials or some other planet-wide catastrophe.

The Marxists saw how successfully Carl Sagan's "nuclear winter" concept panicked the sheeple toward his socialist ideal. Human-caused global warming was an enlargement of that idea and it's been tweaked into "climate change," a perfect mechanism for totalitarian control by unelected elites, as you say. Unless it's defeated, prepare for the Climate Change Inquisition.

I am very concerned about climate change and the immense amount of disinformation that both “sides” are willing to throw out. The issues are very complicated, very debatable, and very serious. To dismiss anyone who is concerned about the issue as an idiot or a druid—is closed minded and cowardly.

Come January, 2009 we are likely to have a government that embraces the global warming threat and that will be eager to enact comprehensive legislation to combat it.

I will give you a 100% iron clad guarantee that we will have a President that fits that bill.

To the contrary. It is much easier for a “global warming skeptic” to get grants. After all there is a huge financial interest in debunking global warming—and only about 8 scientists who actually aren’t at least concerned.

One of the telltales of a weak argument is to set up a silly strawman and bravely knock it down. The majority of scientists are not asserting that global warming is causing cooler temperatures. I am no liberal. But I believe there is sufficient evidence to be very concerned about climate change. Watch and see how very very angry that makes anyone who disagrees with me.

Tell the people of Belarus that nuclear fallout is not a problem. Mold not toxic? Check out half of biological weapons we looked for in Iraq. Radon OK? Are you kidding me. No problem with the Ozone? Look you are making a case for global warming

Great point. But it is a double edged sword. Global problems require global solutions. That means globalists might exagerate the problem for their own benefit. But it also means people (like me) who greatly value our sovereignty are inclined to be dismissive. Fairness requires us to examine our own biases, not just the biases of liberal hacks like Gore.

Nah can't be, according to some scientist in this report the temperatures in Michigan this winter are running 1 degree above normal.

So C'mon now, tell the truth, the weather is so nice in Michigan that you are probably thinking of setting your pool up early, aren't you?

You really don't expect us to believe an AGW alarmist would be telling us lies now do you?

Nice post. Great logic. Except I don’t “dismiss anyone who is not concerned about the issue.” To the contrary, I respect people who disagree with my views. My critique was of those who would dismiss me as an idiot or druid for having a different opinion. You see, the fact that you have to assign statements to me which I didn’t make, exposes the fact that you really don’t have the courage to face things you can’t understand or handle.
