BREAKING: Shooting reported on NIU campus

Police and fire officials were on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Thursday afternoon after a report of a shooting near a dormitory. "There has been a report of a possible gunman on campus," an alert on the university's Web site said. "Get to a safe area and take precautions until given the all clear. Avoid the King Commons and all buildings in that vicinity." The possible shooting took place near Cole Hall, a DeKalb police officer said. There were reports of at least one injury.

Campus police report that the immediate danger has passed. The gunman is no longer a threat. The DeKalb campus is closed tomorrow. Students can go to any residence hall for counseling.

Yep. How strange, can you imagine how people can't see why ultimately your safety is up to you. Common sense says you need more people carrying a weapon to prevent or minimize these situations.

I'll bet this was a gun-free zone. Which once again, did not stop a criminal from shooting unarmed innocents. The only answer is for folks to be carrying guns to stop this madness. I don't know how anyone can see it any other way.
