Police and fire officials were on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Thursday afternoon after a report of a shooting near a dormitory. "There has been a report of a possible gunman on campus," an alert on the university's Web site said. "Get to a safe area and take precautions until given the all clear. Avoid the King Commons and all buildings in that vicinity." The possible shooting took place near Cole Hall, a DeKalb police officer said. There were reports of at least one injury.

WNIU Radio in DeKalb is reported a shooting on the Northern Illinois University campus.
Sycamore, Ill., police said they have reports of three victims, but their conditions are not known. A police source said the shooter may have taken his own life
A sophomore told WBBM radio that he was sitting in geology class when a young white male took out a 12-gauge shotgun and started shooting in Kohl Hall.
The student said he ran, but believes a professor may have been shot. That information has not been confirmed.
NIU confirmed the shooting in a posting on its Web site.
I just called my wife to alert her because she passes the campus to and from work. She’s already well past, and said the roads were blocked off. I’d have to see a campus map to see where Cole Hall is situated. My guess would be it’s one of the dorms on the west side of the campus.
Isn’t that a gun-free school zone?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “DeKALB - At least two people have been shot at Northern Illinois University, according to information heard Thursday afternoon over a police scanner.
Shortly after 3 p.m., calls started coming over a police scanner about a white, male shooter with a shotgun and pistol.
Reports have said the shooter is down.
A university spokeswoman said at 3:10 p.m. she had just heard about the shooting and could not immediately comment on the situation.
At 3:20 p.m., the university issued a campus alert on its Web site.”
Heard from someone walking by Cohl Hall and he saw a guy lying on the floor covered in blood. Presumable this Proff.
Oh, how awful! May God be with the families of the victims.
