Romney has withdrawn and asked his delegates to support McCain.
Romney is very conservative. Just a realist and not an idiot.
Well how do ya Romney backers feel about your boy now?
Not bad at all. Had he done this right after South Carolina I would have been pissed, but McCain has the nomination anyway so what is the big deal. Even if Huckster got have state left, he would not have had enough to win.
Excellent post. It’s amazing how people forget about the First Amendment. I myself am sick of religion in the political spectrum altogether. I’m voting for a congressman/Senator/President, not a deacon/minister/pope/whatever.
I know some people base their votes solely on religious appeal and that’s their right, but I could care less what “religion” a candidate belongs to. I thought, we as Republicans, stood strong for the Freedom of Religion clause. As time goes by, however, and the more people I talk to, I think people understand it solely as the Freedom for MY Religion clause.
I am very disappointed with Mitt over this. I did not support him so he could give his support to a man who I despise and will not vote for. I know it is all politics, but that is part of what I don’t like about politics. This sucks.
This is really not that surprising or disappointing. I expected both Mitt and Fred to endorse someone. Their only options were McCain and Huckabee. McCain has a big lead, and Huckabee royally ticked off Mitt and Fred, so I don’t think they had any other option. What are they supposed to do ... support a Democrat? This whole election cycle has been disheartening, but it’s over. I don’t think anyone is a traitor for supporting the one Republican in the lead that’s left.
I was a big Romney backer. Really was disgusted by McCain’s lie on the eve of the FL primary, as well as Huckabee’s snide one-line slams against Mitt, Fred, and just about anyone who disagreed with him.
That said, I will vote for McCain EVEN if Huckabee is his VP. Why? 2 reasons:
1) Our troops
2) Supreme Court appointments
This makes me wonder if McCain has secretly promised him the VP slot already.
I think he did the right thing. I also think Huckabee should do the same thing. We need to band together to beat the rats in November, but conservatives are throwing a temper tantrum which will lead to total defeat and set our cause back 20 years.
There comes a time when you have to face reality. Conservative lost this round. It's time to try to save what we can in the house and senate and start planning for the next round.
McCain/Romney 08
No, Huckabee showed he’s not ready for the top job yet. He needs to learn to shut up and not pander to the crowd in front of him. That’s no better than Romney in that regard.
ha. I guess it’s time to update my tagline huh?
Ummm, yes. FR has been over-run with faux conservatives as of late.
You didn’t get betrayed. You chose exactly what you got.
Let’s wait and see what the rest of the deal is. Mitt wouldn’t just give it all away for nothing. A VP ticket doesn’t seem far fetched.
Is there not one true conservative out there that has any guts at all???
RR passing abortion legislation as California govenor?
People can change.
Well I guess that makes Romney a RINO now, at least according to McCain haters.
A persons religious beliefs, like it or not, goes to the core of who a person is.
