In the 1980s, Al Franken was cracking jokes on "Saturday Night Live." Mike Ciresi, his chief rival for the Democratic nomination for the Senate this year, was serving as general counsel to the government of India in a landmark lawsuit over a catastrophic industrial accident.
A decade later, while Franken was writing books like "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big, Fat Idiot," Ciresi was leading the state of Minnesota's lawsuit against Big Tobacco, winning a $6 billion settlement.
Despite his impressive resume, Ciresi finds himself trailing Franken in the Democratic contest. The comedian-turned-candidate has raised millions more, lined up the most important labor endorsements and dominated news coverage.
To offset that, the multimillionaire trial lawyer is delivering a simple argument to Democratic regulars: He is more electable than Franken.
"Al Franken has made a living calling people names," Ciresi said in an interview.

I think Ceresi may be right. As much of a weenie as Norm Coleman is, he’s preferable to Franken or Ciresi.
From the article;
“Al Franken has made a living calling people names,” Ciresi said in an interview.”
While Mr. Ciresi has made a living chasing ambulances halfway around the world.
Hopefully, Ciresi will take campaigning tips from John Edwards....
this is MN . I'm in the only state that went to Mondale. Land of 10,000 Libtards.
Norm’s in a bit of trouble with the base. Continues to vote against drilling in Anwar and elsewhere. He has a new girlfriend in the Senate.....Amy Klobuchar, MN-DFL. He likes her so much since she came to town, he votes with her, almost in lock-step.
And remember, MN’s fifth district sent the first muslim to the House Of Reps.
A friend of CAIR muslim.
Addendum: Be careful what you wish for...
Check out this Franken ad. It is well done and probably appealed to a lot of people.
Okay, I get it.
Contrast that with what Coleman’s campaign is running.....

Who’s running Norm’s campaign? His cousin Sid Rosenberg?
Cullen Sheehan.
I know......Who?
Cullen Sheehan, most recently the executive director of the Iowa Republican Party, will be the campaign manager for Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign. Sheehan is from Minnesota and worked on Coleman’s ‘98 gubernatorial campaign and his ‘02 U.S. Senate campaign.
If Frankken wins and McCain helps bring the independents over to the republicans side, then we stand a shot.
Ventura was unelectable.
Ellison, a Cair lovin’, Calypso Louis supportin’ activist muslim lawyer that defended Kathleen Soliah of the SLA, should have been unelectable.
The leftists in Minneapolis, St.Paul, Rochester, St. Cloud and Duluth will all get out and vote for the Dem candidate, be it Ciresi or Franken. The conservatives, especially out-state are going to stay home. Norm isn’t conservative and now Gov. Pawlenty has also taken a hard left that has the base pissed off.
The problem though is that when the conservatives stay home thereby giving the election to the Dems, it’s portrayed as the Republican lost because they were too conservative. That’s all I hear about 2006. “The country wanted change towards the left” not “the conservatives were fed up with the leftward lurch of their party.” I suspect this leads to a moderation of Republican candidates. See McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Giuliani.
Well, right you are.
I cannot control real conservatives in the metro and the certainly not the out-staters, though I do my best.....
