Tomorrow is, of course, primary day in Virgina.
The question is -- how can I get the biggest effect with my primary vote, on shaping the November election?
A protest vote against McCain, i.e., for Huckabee? Sorry, can't pull the lever for the Huckster. Just can't do it -- as George Bush 41 would say, "not gonna do it".
A protest vote for Romney? Maybe, and that's my initial impulse, but it's not clear what I buy for that.
Crossing over and voting for Obama? That's my inclination. I'm worried about the effect, one that'e been cited by many (I read it again today in the latest Susan Estrich column) about the "gap" between Obams's polling numbers (even the exit polls) versus the final reality of the private voting booth results, which get spun as "Hillary comebacks". As my father would say, "Comebacks my arse."
The polling gap is telling anyone that wants to notice that "some democrats are uncomfortable about race", and are lying about it even as they leave the polls, and while that's no surprise to conservatives, it's an especially worrisome factor right now.
We've heard all the talk about who, between Hillary and Obama, is the more formidable candidate against the repubs, but I take that all for idle chatter. One elementary fact I can say for certain, one thing that I know -- -- is that I cannot BEAR the thought of either Clinton in the White House again. So I'm going to break with Ann Coulter on this one -- for me it's visceral.
So -- my intent is to vote democratic tomorrow, and pull the lever for Barack. Remember the old Steve Martin bit. Steve, how are you sooo funny? His response - I put baloney in my shoes, and then I feel funny! Perhaps I'll get the baloney out before I head to the polls. I know I'll get a funny look from the registrar of voters, who'se a personal friend of mine. I'll give her a wink as she says "oh my!"
This thread is about some numb-skull wanting to vote in the VA Democrat primary to tilt it the wrong way. The trouble is that there is no right way to vote. Best to stay with your own party, even if you don't like your choices. Ross Perot and the sheeple that voted for him put Clinton in office. Lack of a candidate in 2002 kept him there. Regardless, I vote against the Democrats regardless of how pathetic the person I'm voting for is.
I think you are right. My son is very conservative and he thinks it would be “cool” to have the first black president. He is not thinking about the reality of this! This is the American Idol group. The cult.
perhaps I did mispell the word. However, when speaking of something as serious as we are I would hope the subject matter and not so much the spelling would be the most important issue. I type very fast and sometimes my fingers get ahead of my spelling. I have seen people correct other spellings as well and it seems silly when you look at the whole picture.
Well, I dont’ know anything about what you said but...I think Obama is STRONG in the sense he lulled hillereee into thinking he was weak. We now know differently.
Neither can I, the very idea makes me cringe. BUT, the horrors created by my mind's eye picture of Sheik Barack Hussein Obama sitting behind the Oval Office desk surrounded by a retinue of Minister Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam advisers and government emissaries from the most hostile ME Islamic countries seeking US high tech military weaponry to use against Israel far surpasses any mental image I can muster up of Hill'n Bill literally shredding the literal Constitution with razor blades and making up the rules of governing as they go.
All that to say this, please, oh please, don't make the mistake of voting for Sheik Barack Hussein Obama. If he makes it to the office of Chief Executive and Commander in Chief of US Armed Forces you will regret your vote so much for the four years following his ascendancy to the high office of Chief Mullah of the Islamic Republic of America and Administrator of the FBIDW (Federal Bureau of Investigating Disobedient Wives) that your family may have to put you on suicide watch.
Of course I'm trying to sound ridiculous and probably succeeding, but there is a more serious side of the matter to be considered. Don't forget that Obama was born into a Muslim family and educated in an Indonesian Islamic school taught by fundamentalist Muslim teachers from the 2nd to 6th grade level, and his so-called "church"in Chicago is a congregation of primarily ultra-liberal and outright radical Afro-Americans and some far left wing whites, and is closely allied with Minister Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam, which is openly hostile to white America almost, but not quite, to the point of unofficially endorsing an urban guerrilla war against the US government.
I'm not saying that Obama agrees with Farrakhan on most of or even a small part of his agenda, I doubt that he does, but I don't believe that you will hear any condemnation of the Nation of Islam coming from an Obama occupied White House either. Add that to Obama's very well known extreme liberalism and and radical ideas concerning exchanging the greatest health care system on earth for a system similar to the socialized medicine scheme that has failed miserably in Canada and the UK and you have a nightmarish vision of almost everything we don't want to happen in our nation actually happening if Sheik Obama becomes president.
Sounds like some of the same thinking that went into defeating Romney.
Obama is MORE ELECTABLE than Hillary.
Yet Hillary or Obama both would be formidable.
At this point, let the Democrat dig their own grave. you may regret your vote.
Vote for McCain if you want to end Huck’s run sooner and get the GOP nomination wrapped up.
If that is unpalatable vote for Romney or Hunter as a protest vote against McCain’s immigration amnesty.
Do not vote for Huckabee. That’s like feeding the trolls here; it just encourages unhelpful behavior. We wil not have a brokered convention and the sooner Huck admits it the better.
I have been reading for over 30 minutes TRYING to get to the end so I can tell WL-law he/she is crazy! LOL
Well said! Folks, it's time to remember basic lesson of voting - when you vote for what you like, the politicians take notice and follow. If you are a conservative, find the most electable conservative that matches your views and support him/her.
I can't believe what I am reading on these threads. You all hate Hillery so much you are willing to help get a very dangerous man nominated?
Obama is the "second coming" for the Democrats. He will win in a landslide and he will bring this Country down.
If you are a Republican and want to vote anti-McCain, vote Romney or Ron Paul, unless you actually support Huckabee. THAT is the best message you can send.
Do some research on Obama. He shouldn't be in the Senate, let alone the White House. The fact that he is so likable makes him that much more dangerous.
Vote Ron Paul, Romney, or Huckabee...Don't vote Obama!
I’m voting for Hunter.
No, I am not willing to help get a very dangerous McCain nominated.
The question is who is easier to beat and who is more dangerous. We aren't helping X win the election, we are setting ourselves up for a win. One of the two gets the nomination, no matter what. So who do we want and how can we influence that?
it was pointed out to me today that if Obama wins the nomination, there is no way the Clintons will let him win the presidency — they will make sure he loses to McCain to preserve her viability in 2012.
So, it’s worth putting the stake through the vampire’s heart.
He was my first choice!
..also, I would like to add that a lot of establishment dems I am reading are worried that Obama has some dirt that could kill him in the general election (something about a limo, drugs, and a video..)
Tough call since I don't want any of the three!
I don't know who is worse between McCAin and Hillery, but I do know, Obama is worse than the other two put together, and I think he would be impossible to beat.
His supporters will not listen and will not care what his record is, or what he stands for. We will be accused of being racists and bigots and accused of hate speech. We won't be able to say a word against him!
