Tomorrow is, of course, primary day in Virgina.
The question is -- how can I get the biggest effect with my primary vote, on shaping the November election?
A protest vote against McCain, i.e., for Huckabee? Sorry, can't pull the lever for the Huckster. Just can't do it -- as George Bush 41 would say, "not gonna do it".
A protest vote for Romney? Maybe, and that's my initial impulse, but it's not clear what I buy for that.
Crossing over and voting for Obama? That's my inclination. I'm worried about the effect, one that'e been cited by many (I read it again today in the latest Susan Estrich column) about the "gap" between Obams's polling numbers (even the exit polls) versus the final reality of the private voting booth results, which get spun as "Hillary comebacks". As my father would say, "Comebacks my arse."
The polling gap is telling anyone that wants to notice that "some democrats are uncomfortable about race", and are lying about it even as they leave the polls, and while that's no surprise to conservatives, it's an especially worrisome factor right now.
We've heard all the talk about who, between Hillary and Obama, is the more formidable candidate against the repubs, but I take that all for idle chatter. One elementary fact I can say for certain, one thing that I know -- -- is that I cannot BEAR the thought of either Clinton in the White House again. So I'm going to break with Ann Coulter on this one -- for me it's visceral.
So -- my intent is to vote democratic tomorrow, and pull the lever for Barack. Remember the old Steve Martin bit. Steve, how are you sooo funny? His response - I put baloney in my shoes, and then I feel funny! Perhaps I'll get the baloney out before I head to the polls. I know I'll get a funny look from the registrar of voters, who'se a personal friend of mine. I'll give her a wink as she says "oh my!"
I was a recipient of one of Huckabee's anti-Romey/McCain push "polls" yesterday.
As much as I would like to see the Beast vanquished before she gets a turn at bat, I still think the best chance even a sometime (very little) pubbie like McCain stands against her than Obamarama.
I've talked to people that say they like what Obama's saying...even though he hasn't said ANYTHING. People just think he has.
I think Obama would be harder for an old rino like McCain to beat.
The Beast on the opposite ticket may be the only thing out there that can fire up conservatives and get them to go to the polls this time.
I know for me, I'll vote anyway, for whomever is best for the country. It won't be Obama, and it won't be the Beast, but I sure wish it would be someone better than McCain.
IMO though, if it ain't the Beast, more pubbies stay home than if it is her.
I appreciate your passion and I'm as concerned as you are. As in the stock market, you need to cut your loses and find a more profitable company that shares your vision. As a side note, this is my current thinking and conversations like this are good and should continue. Peace be with you.
I am not confusing your position or anyone else’s with Susan Eisenhower. I never said that. However, I want OBAMA to win the democratic nomination. I want him to push hilllereee so far back in the anals of history that we’d need Energerizer bunnies to locate her again. I just know that if Obama wins the nomination hilllereee will be FINISHED. DONE. OVER. OLD HAT. She will never be taken serious again. She’ll be in the Gore, Kerry book of losers and if Obama can do that then I will feel victorious and happy.
As for MCain .... how is he different?
He loses his temper
He can get nasty
He flip flops
He is not a good choice in my opinion
I will vote against Hillary any chance I can get- Obama is liberal, but more likeable by far than Hillary.

I can't believe you said that! Has the world gone mad?!
1. Obama wins popular primary vote
2. Clinton uses super-delegates to win nomination
3. Blacks sit out general election in protest
4. McCain picks a conservative running mate
5. Hillary embroiled in lawsuit scandal entire election
6. McCain wins general election
7. McCain cathes pneumonia inaguration day
8. Conservative Veep appoints his own conservative veep
Let's roll!
Hahaha I just can't believe the things being said on this thread!
He absolutely is no friend to freedom, Hillary is NO better. If our troops are pulled out of Iraq, America will realize it is the democrats that want to lose. American’s don’t to lose, and that will weigh on our collective soul, a “buyer’s remorse” will soon follow. IMHO. I say this because, unless things chance drastically between now and November, McCain has zero chance of winning, nor should he. He will be another Bush only nastier.
But the avatar of the youth vote getter was Howard Dean -- and look how insubstantial his support was in the end.
The Clintons have decided that the best strategy to use is the one Bill used with Paul Tsongas in 1992. Defeat your candidate by becoming them, but trying to be a more authentic versoion of themselves then they are.
Bill actually pulled it off. Hillary -- not so good.
But the EFFECT of this strategy is that nobody has gone AFTER Obama yet. So -- it remains to be seen just how formidable a candidate he really is, at least in my view. He hasn't faced any fire yet.
McCain, though, probably can't deliver the fire, either.
“Here we are, about to elect the most inexperienced guy ever to be President, all because he inspires, he such a nice guy, he is charismatic. That is what I find DANGEROUS. His campaign must be defeated.”
What scare the heck out of me is who he’s inspiring. A bunch know nothing moonbats who think by chanting “Yes We Can” over and over that things will get better. Obama will make Carter look like Reagan. Peace Love and Understanding are great in your personal life...or in a rock n roll somg, but they won’t work in Government too well.
Pennsylvania’s democratic primary is closed- can you just say you’re a democrat and vote there?
I think its a fine line. It would be nice to have the two nearly tied going into the convention. Get the whole dem party at each other’s throats...
No, I will have to switch parties to do it.
Gore and Kerry both lost PRESIDENTIAL elections. They were finished. There are many cases of a person losing the nomination one year, and coming back later to win it, and the Presidency, years later. I'd rather end the Clinton's run right now.
I would hope Obama would not choose hilllerreee...she would force her way into everything like she was the president. It would be a huge mistake if he chose her.
He is stong enough by himself and he should choose someone who is not power hungry like hilllerreee.. He should choose someone fresh and likeable. I would like to see him select someone who is up and coming. He should steer clear from all of those members in the the “old, has been, stale, musty club” and choose someone really nice whom a lot of people like and can accept. Fresh faces...that’s what we need in both parties.
Exactly! This is not about wanting Obama to be president. McCain already has the nomination locked. Huckabee can't win the nomination. That's why Romney dropped out. He can count. Appearently the Huckster and his supporters can't. McCain won't give a damn whether you voted for Huckabee or Romney. He just doesn't care because he's already won.
The longer we can keep the rats at each other's throats the less time they have to focus on us. If we can destroy the Clinton machine forever we have an extra bonus.
