Tomorrow is, of course, primary day in Virgina.
The question is -- how can I get the biggest effect with my primary vote, on shaping the November election?
A protest vote against McCain, i.e., for Huckabee? Sorry, can't pull the lever for the Huckster. Just can't do it -- as George Bush 41 would say, "not gonna do it".
A protest vote for Romney? Maybe, and that's my initial impulse, but it's not clear what I buy for that.
Crossing over and voting for Obama? That's my inclination. I'm worried about the effect, one that'e been cited by many (I read it again today in the latest Susan Estrich column) about the "gap" between Obams's polling numbers (even the exit polls) versus the final reality of the private voting booth results, which get spun as "Hillary comebacks". As my father would say, "Comebacks my arse."
The polling gap is telling anyone that wants to notice that "some democrats are uncomfortable about race", and are lying about it even as they leave the polls, and while that's no surprise to conservatives, it's an especially worrisome factor right now.
We've heard all the talk about who, between Hillary and Obama, is the more formidable candidate against the repubs, but I take that all for idle chatter. One elementary fact I can say for certain, one thing that I know -- -- is that I cannot BEAR the thought of either Clinton in the White House again. So I'm going to break with Ann Coulter on this one -- for me it's visceral.
So -- my intent is to vote democratic tomorrow, and pull the lever for Barack. Remember the old Steve Martin bit. Steve, how are you sooo funny? His response - I put baloney in my shoes, and then I feel funny! Perhaps I'll get the baloney out before I head to the polls. I know I'll get a funny look from the registrar of voters, who'se a personal friend of mine. I'll give her a wink as she says "oh my!"
Well, you've just made the best argument to get me to reconsider.
Now for strategy -- which race is potentially closer?
McCain has a 55%-27% lead in the polls here in Virginia. I'm not happy about that, but that's the facts. So my vote against McCain isn't a "tipping point", to use the in-vogue phrase.
Obama's got a big lead, too, but his leads have been seen to disappear. And that's my concern -- I want to stop the Clintons.
I’m crossing over as well, only I’m voting for Clinton. She is MUCH more beatable than Obama.
In case there is anyone who hasn't seen the lyrics to Barak Obama, Superstar (sung to the tune of Jesus Christ, Superstar)....
I don't know why I love him,
My Barack, my Obama;
I've been charmed, yes really charmed,
By his trim physique, so slim and sleek--
I'm awed by his mystique.
I don't know why he's running,
I don't see any substance;
No real plan, flash in the pan,
And I've heard such empty words before He's just a bore.
But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.
Don't you think it's rather shallow
I should vote for this fellow?
I'm the one who's always been
So pure, so pissed, so feminist;
I don't need men, oh no--
He scares me so.
But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.
Yet, like in a romance novel,
I'm in love with a male model;
I've got to look! He signed my book!
My heart runs wild! I'll bear his child!
I want the world to know:
He's my "Big O"!
Obama, go!
I love you so!
Al-taqiya
Not with McCain, you won't."
Deserves repeating until everyone finally sees what the real choices for POTUS are after this mess - Presidente Clinton II or (to me far less odious) Presidente Obama.
Apparently you have not watched the Dem debates. Not a SINGLE democrat has pledged to completely withdraw troops from Iraq. The dirty little secret is the Dems are all for withdrawal while Bush is president so they can strap defeat around Bush's neck, but it will be whole different ball game when a Democrat is president. Playing to the Democrat lunatic fringe base and making actual policy decisions from the Oval Orifice are two different things.
Those polls were probably taken before Huck’s wins in KS and LA. No way to stop McCain if his opponents don’t vote against him. VA is winner-take-all, but the percents matter also, in terms of the perception of voters in the coming states. Huck can force McCain to run to the right, especially on social issues, if Huck can stay in it, so that’s worthwhile as well.
Well except Kucinich.. but he is not an earthling.
The nation’s first serious black candidate for president should be outraged that al-Qaida would try to exploit African-Americans for the terror cause. Oddly, he’s not.
Osama bin Laden’s deputy last week made a sinister pitch to blacks in the U.S., and Barack Obama shrugged.
The Democratic senator was out on the hustings at the time the videotaped screed was released. He could have worked in a denunciation around his well-publicized gaffe about “10,000” tornado victims, but he didn’t. And in the process, he blew a golden chance to look tough on terrorism, and rally both blacks and whites around the flag.
Al-Qaida’s Ayman al-Zawahri earlier this month courted blacks by frequently invoking Malcolm X, aka Al-Hajj Malik al-Shabazz, a past leader of the Nation of Islam.
Shamelessly, al-Zawahri encouraged blacks to join al-Qaida’s holy war against the American “oppressor,” and sacrifice their blood against “injustice” like the “struggler and martyr” Malcolm X.
He noted that the Muslim civil-rights leader condoned “violent” methods to help win equality for blacks, while implying that blacks today are still oppressed.
“I want blacks in America to know that when we wage jihad in Allah’s path, we aren’t waging jihad to lift oppression from the Muslims only,” al-Zawahri said. “We are waging jihad to lift oppression from all mankind.”
Some might argue that Obama shouldn’t dignify such enemy agitprop with a response. But as the brother of a black convert (Roy), Obama must know that Islam is flourishing among African-Americans, even since 9/11, and that dozens of converts have been arrested in terrorism cases from Los Angeles to Miami.
The trend is dangerous because it plays right into the hands of al-Qaida, which is trying to lower its Arab profile by recruiting African-Americans for future attacks. That’s why al-Qaida leaders like al-Zawahri are inviting blacks to convert to Islam and join them in taking revenge on a nation that they say enslaved their ancestors and continues to “oppress” them.
Obama could have stood up and blunted the effect of such a dastardly appeal by saying he’s proof positive blacks aren’t oppressed. But he didn’t.
He could have argued that the civil-rights battle was won through peaceful resistance, and pointed out that al-Zawahri left out of his racial history lesson the fact that Muslim slave traders sold Africans into bondage. But he didn’t.
Obama also could have pointed out that hundreds of African-Americans were murdered by Muslim terrorists on 9/11, and that we are all in this battle against Islamic terrorism together. And he could have praised all the brave black GIs fighting overseas to protect Americans back home. But he didn’t.
Obama could have warned fellow African-Americans to ignore the phony pitches of radical Islamists trying to recruit them to a traitorous cause. Or he could have simply told Osama’s No. 2 to go pound sand up his nightgown.
But he didn’t. He stayed silent. Why?
Too many Americans already suspect that Democrats secretly sympathize with al-Qaida and think America had 9/11 coming. That’s what Obama’s spiritual adviser seems to suggest.
On the Sunday after the terrorist attacks, according to the New York Times, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright preached that 9/11 was a consequence of American foreign policies. Recently, he wrote that the attacks proved that “people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West went on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns.”
Obama says he does not share his adviser’s views, even as he continues to worship at his militantly Afrocentric church in Chicago, which as we noted earlier this year preaches the politics of black separatism.
If Obama hopes to win the White House, he’ll have to do better than that to convince a majority of Americans he’s a pro-America uniter worthy of taking over this war against Islamic terror as commander in chief.

I’m probably voting for Romney, because I’m not quite ready to vote for McCain, I still don’t like Huckabee’s tactics (hearing about push-polls attacking Romney and McCain, while Huckabee claims he isn’t doing anything negative).
It looks like McCain should win pretty easily, so I’m not risking anything voting for Romney, and yet to the degreee people want me to help Huckbee, at least I’m not voting for McCain.
But I’m not sure.
If I were to vote in the democrat primary, I would vote for Hillary, because no matter how much you hate her, she would be a MUCH BETTER PRESIDENT than Obama. And that matters.
obama would be harder to beat in the general, than hillary robbem klipem.
Yes I read your post, I believe you are under the illusion that republicans have a chance at winning this Nov.. Look what happens when a “compassionate conservative” initiates liberal policies, the real conservatives buckle under and gives him what he wants. I believe, and it’s only my opinion that we have to take back the party at the grassroots level. I also believe clinton is more dangerous to us than osama/obama.
Obama on the other hand has committed to the hard left positions of the democratic party. He'll be forced to be a real socialist.
Another thing about Obama. The more is get to know him the more he seems like an empty suit. Like Martin Luther King's ventriloquism dummy. That scares me.
Of the sorry choices left I'd prefer Huckleberry to the rest. Figure he'd do the least damage.
I figure McInsane will start WWIII before he's done.
Maybe so .. maybe she is tired of the pubbies and she believes in some change as she said.
Obama likes to be liked, and were he president he would be a timeserver more concerned about popularity than lawmaking - as his previous career demonstrates.
I think McCain will have an easier time of it running against Clinton than he would against Obama.
I do not think McCain would start WW III.
I think it already was started on 9-11 , however.
A vote for Obama is a vote for sharia law in the USA.
Only in the primary. I will likely be writing in in November.
Also, the republican party of virginia tracks your primary voting record, and may give you a hard time if they think you are a “democrat” because you voted in the democrat primary.
Our party plan allows us to not allow you to vote in conventions (actually anything but a primary) unless you renounce your evil ways and promise never to do it again.
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with our party plan, just telling you the ramifications of voting in a democratic primary.
stay away from the polls - don’t be seen near one - you will get indigestion and loose bowels, possibly nausea as well. - you are making a poor choice
Can you imagine ANYONE asking hillary to run as their VP? Putting their life between hillary and the presidency, on purpose?
