FoR all his failings in some folks eyes by choosing to be a democrat and voting as such for 28 years in Congress ..

One can take some solace in that he was also a stalwart supporter of Israel his entire life. Was he a partisan? Oh Yes. In more ways than one.

RIP Tom Lantos

I have Barrett’s Esophagus, gastritis and acid reflux. At my last gastroscopy, everything looked better according to my gastroenterologist. I’m hoping the news continues to be good.

Not only still in office but chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

I think this is very sudden. May he rest in peace.

“I don’t care what his politics were, this is a terrible shame.”

How is it a “terrible shame?” The man WAS 80 years old.

Congrats to your dad... the repercussions from the surgery really are a challenge but I’ll take’em.

And I’m sure your dad would agree with me that having gone through that experience makes the time you have with your grandchildren (in my case, 3 grand-daughters so far) is all that more special. I try to savor every visit.

"condolences to the family."

I ask again, is the family here on this forum? No? We're only posturing for each other?

Getcha lazy ass to a card store, buy a sympathy card, then go to the library to find the address of the deceased family, write a nice card or cards, buy 41 cent stamps and mail them. Your posturing doesn't impress anybody!

Tom Lantos (D-Ca.), sponsor of the latest House resolution supporting the independence of "Kosova," uttered the following words at last week's hearing (addressing Nicholas Burns of the State Department):

"Let me just raise a few items, Mr. Secretary. The first one: just a reminder to the predominantly Muslim-led governments in this world that here is yet another example that the United States leads the way for the creation of a predominantly Muslim country in the very heart of Europe. This should be noted by both responsible leaders of Islamic governments, such as Indonesia, and also for jihadists of all color and hue. The United States’ principles are universal, and in this instance, the United States stands foursquare for the creation of an overwhelmingly Muslim country in the very heart of Europe."

Yes, prayers for him and his family because he will need all the prayers he can get!

—Lantos was a liberal but he was solid on totalitarianism.—

Presumably, Henry “Scoop” Jackson was waiting for Lantos at the Pearly Gates.

Like John McCain, I respected what he’d been through but heartilly disagreed with his vision for the country. I, nevertheless, wish him eternal rest, reunited with his loved ones so tragically lost.

“Loved abortion only a little less than he loved gun control.”

What I never, never, NEVER will understand is how anyone, who has a living memory of the Holocaust, could EVER support gun control...ESPECIALLY someone who had been on the receiving end of a governmental extermination program.

If I had lived through that particular experience and then gotten into politics, I would be the largest, loudest, and most strident advocate of civilians being armed to the teeth.

As a human being, I am sorry for his family that he is gone. It’s tough when loved ones die.

That being said...he was an advocate for stripping ME of my RIGHT to keep and bear arms, and therefore a political enemy. So - in the hard cold, real world - when do we start running someone conservative to get that congressional seat filled, and how hard are we willing to fight to get that seat?

Every House and Senate seat matters now.

Thanks for your support. Because I have always had acid reflux since childhood, I was glad to learn it was not esophogeal cancer.

May he rest in peace, and may God give his family strength in these difficult times. I disagreed with most of Congressman Lantos’s positions, but he was a good man.

As I said when Congressman Lantos announced his retirement, I am not optimistic that his replacement in the House will be one-tenth as honorable or patriotic as he was.

Conrad Janis died yesterday, too. Now—HIM— I can relate to.

Rest in Peace, Connie, and have fun in that Big Dixieland Jazz Band on high!
