LEWISTON, Me. Hillary Clinton isnt pulling her punches today, and shes ripped.
Clinton doesnt think a temporary suspension fits the crime by MSNBCs David Shuster, who commented this week that the Clinton campaign had pimped out 27-year old Chelsea Clinton by having her try to recruit Democratic Party super delegates to support her mother.
Sen. Clintons letter to Steve Capus, president of NBC News, pretty much says it all:
Dear Mr. Capus,
Thank you for your call yesterday. I wanted to send you this note to convey the depth of my feeling about David Shusters comments.
I know that I am a public figure and that my daughter is playing a public role in my campaign. I am accustomed to criticism, certainly from MSNBC. I know that it goes with the territory.
However, I became Chelseas mother long before I ran for any office and I will always be a mom first and a public official second.
Nothing justifies the kind of debasing language that David Shuster used and no temporary suspension or half-hearted apology is sufficient.
I would urge you to look at the pattern of behavior on your network that seems to repeatedly lead to this sort of degrading language.
Theres a lot at stake for our country in this election. Surely, you can do your jobs as journalists and commentators and still keep the discourse civil and appropriate.
Sincerely,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
O No yes U R, but bracketed
:>)
Not that that would keep you corralled!
OMG!!! An APOLOGY isn't enough??? Hillary has NEVER apologized for ANYTHING, so I guess she doesn't even know one when she hears it.
The Hildabeast is pimpin’ Bill, too.
Um...this from the woman that calls General Petraeus a liar! Hillary Clinton lecturing someone on civil discourse is a joke!
What's good for one President's daughter is good for another.
MSNBC has been blowing a lot of kisses to Obama. They wavered in their allegience to Hillary.
So, banished to the wilderness David shall be. The public sacrifice and the warning to all.
So it is written, so it shall be done.
The man deserves a raise - He DARES to irritate Madam Chairman
The Hildabeast is LOVIN’ this!
This is FANTASTIC for her as she gets to play not only the victim all over again, but the victim of sexism and the victim as a mother and it goes on and on.
She is milking this for all it is worth b/c she knows that her gambit that all the men were picking on her worked with women in N.H. Now those mean old men are also picking on her *daughter.*
She might have even teed this one up!
Anyway, if you’re interested, read Shuster’s emails to the campaign at the Huff Post. His first rationale for what he said actually makes some sense. He said it wasn’t that Chelsea was campaigning that he found a problem, it was that she was campaigning AND would also refuse to speak to reporters.
IOW, she put herself out there to campaign, but then would not make herself available to the media.
Even beyond that, however, Shuster’s real problem seemed to be that Chelsea was doing a lot more than campaigning-—i.e., being out there in public where at least the media could see and comment on what she was doing.
Shuster said the campaign recently started having Chelsea *call superdelegates and lobby them to vote for her mom.* This type of “campaigning” is not out in public, therefore Shuster argued that the campaign’s refusal to make Chelsea available to the media was even worse.
“Her numerous spies observed, and zealously reported, every action, or word, or look, injurious to their royal mistress. Whomsoever they accused were cast into her peculiar prisons, inaccessible to the inquiries of justice; and it was rumored, that the torture of the rack, or scourge, had been inflicted in the presence of the female tyrant, insensible to the voice of prayer or of pity.” - Gibbon, re the Empress Theodora
Chelsea has inserted herself into the campaign by going out and speaking on behalf of her mother. Thus she is part of the campaign. When she does this, what she says and what she does is subject to criticism. Admittedly Shusters remarks were not very tactful but this is politics and you have to be thick skinned.
If one backs down under pressure from a sociopath it only encourages them. Send an e-mail today in SUPPORT of the poor reporter!
I’m drive-by posting in between various stages of finishing that trophy, today.
Now, back to the studio!
bttt!
I can do my job, and don't call me Shirley!
Shuster is a Jew? Bet that makes Hillary even madder if that’s the case.
Actually, it's a smart move on her part. Milk it for all it's worth.
