Primary Voters: Vote against McCain! Vote for deadlock! Vote anyone but McCain!
Feb 9, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 02/09/2008 11:44:24 AM PST by Jim Robinson

Folks, there still may be a slim chance to force a deadlocked convention. I'm no election math wizard, but I believe it's still mathematically possible for McCain to NOT receive the requisite number of delegates to win the nomination. But it would require a great turnout of passionate conservative voters in the remaining primary states to accomplish.

The trick would be for all remaining primary conservative voters to vote for their favorite candidate as if he were still in the race. Fred's name is still on the ballot. So is Hunter's and Romney's. Shoot, vote for Huckabee, Paul or even Giuliani if you wish. Anyone but McCain!

None of the others can possibly win, but it's still possible for McCain to lose. Let it go to the convention and force the GOP to publicly fight it out as if its very life depended on it. Because it does.

What do we have to lose? As it stands now, more and more conservatives are declaring their intentions to sit out the general. If McCain is our candidate, looks like Hillary/Obama will be our next president. Don't let it happen. Vote for any GOPer other than McCain!

Fracture the GOP at your own risk.

Most conservatives have no problem reaching out to other groups for some common ground, but they want to get something in return. As I see it, there parties are coming closer and closer to the following alliance: Democrats will run as outrageously far left as they can, in exchange for the "Republicans" running almost as far left. The "Republicans" will get the status of winning, but the Democrats will get their policies implemented.

The only way I can see that strategy would not be a "win-win" for both parties would be if conservatives bolt and the Republicans suddenly discover that the Democrats are getting their policies implemented without giving them "winner" status.

Yes, bolting is dangerous and it's unclear whether the country could survive two years of Dem+Dem+Dem control. On the other hand, if McCain wins this one he'd protect himself by assuring that the dangers of bolting on 2012 would be even greater.

I really like Dr Paul on many issues. If he had his foreign policy and national defense issues straightened out I think he could have won this thing. Who doesn’t want to follow the Constitution? Who doesn’t admire a straight shooter?

This isn't about selecting a candidate any longer. Conservatives have been pushed aside on that matter. This is about yanking the GOP up by the scruff of the neck and telling them if they want the conservative vote we want a conservative candidate.

BUMPED for The Truth!!!

But then what? If none of the others can win, where do we go from there?

If you've already answered this or a question like this, please just "point" me to the correct reply. Thanks

It looks like Alan Keyes may be on the NC ballot in May. I’m looking forward to casting my vote for ABC also.

I was debating whether to vote for Paul or Romney on Super Tuesday, especially since I heard the exit polls that McCain was running away with the state before I voted. But I figured that there was a slim chance Romney might win my county, so I figured I'd vote for him.

How well-liked is Paul throughout Texas? I would guess much better than Huckabee, though I don't really know. I would love to see Paul win his home state.

Voting for anyone but McCain will IMHO dilute the conservative vote. This is what got us in this mess in the first place. We must coalesce around one candidate. Since our guys didn’t see fit to hang around and fight, that leaves the Huckster and Ron Paul. Ron Paul doesn’t have a chance. So that leaves the Huckster. He is the only rallying point left. So be it. Vote for the Huckster.

Before Thursday, a vote for the Huckster was a vote against a conservative candidate (Mitt was not my favorite, but he was the last resort). But now that there are none left but McCain and the Huckster, the game has changed (RuPaul hasn't won anything and is not part of the equation). A vote for Huckabee is a protest vote against McCain. Now whether it will matter in the long run is debatable. However, it is the only way to make our voice heard. And, who knows, if neither has a majority by the convention their may be an opportunity to have a third candidate come to the front. (I know I'm just daydreaming about winning the lottery, but at least our voice will be heard.)

Yes, I did. Regarding the Washington state caucus today:

40 total delegates*
18 tied to February 9 caucuses,
19 tied to February 19 primary,
3 unpledged RNC member delegates

Everyone could vote for candidate. Whoever has the most delegates as of now. If we don’t settle on ONE candidate then McCain will win because we are right back to where we started from.....a split conservative vote. If everyone could come together, then we could outwit the GOP leaders. Put up a vote on FR and let us all vote and vow to support the winner.

Even if McCain ultimately takes the nomination, the squabbling may serve a useful purpose. It's clear that unless McCain has a meltdown so spectacular the media can't ignore it, Hillary or Obama will have no real opposition this election. There are, however, two other issues at stake:

  1. The numerical composition of Congress.
  2. The attitude of Congresscritters.
To protect #1, it's important that conservatives get to the polls and vote down-ticket. I would suggest that #2 would be best served by having conservatives make abundantly clear that they won't support the GOP unless they receive something better than a knife in the back. Conservatives look at politicians' records, and Republican politicians who want to keep their jobs had best remember that.

To a convention fight. Then, who knows? Better than rolling over for John Benedict Arnold McCain without a fight.

It has to be the Huckster then, he's only one still campaigning who has won states. Voting RuPaul (or any of those already out) won't accomplish anything as McCain will still likely come out on top, though less than 50%, in any given primary. We need other states with results like today from Kansas.

Paul is in the fight of his life to even hold his House seat.

His problem is that he actually told his constituents what he thought.

ABC is “the” man this year! ...Did you notice they are setting up Romney to be the “Conservative standardbearer”?
