Why are they forcing Vista on us when almost everybody hates it? Well, this strategy works so well with the Republican Party and McCain, I guess they thought "Why not?"

To call them "fans" is to misunderstand the whole situation.
They most likely weren't XP fans until Hostile la Vista came along.

Because it’s Microsoft and they know what’s best for you.

This will certainly create a business for independent software suppliers.

i saw no reason to move from Win2K pro (probably the only GOOD operating system microsoft ever made) to XP, but was forced to..
Now it look like they are doig it all over again with VIsta.
All the have to do is claim to stop supporting older versions. We should call their bluff on that- they make too much revenue from support.
and what i have seen of Vista is a royal annoying pain.

At my age, XP may be my last Windows upgrade.
I am not upgrading to VISTA, even though I qualified for a discount on it with the laptop I bought last year. (I specifically bought a laptop with XP, not VISTA, because even in beta, VISTA was wrought with problems.)

*** Why are they forcing Vista on us when almost everybody hates it? ***
Good question.
My new Systemax p.c. (bought last May) came with XP Pro (SP2) as the OS but also with Vista Pro loaded for 'future use'. I have up to three years (length of warranty) to wait for the Vista bugs to be worked out then I call Tech support and they help with the switchover.
Natch all the new software I bought is also Visa compatible as is my new 22" Samsung monitor. So when I have to switch it shouldn't be too painful. But if my new AutoCAD 2008Lt doesn't work (it's Vista compatible too) I'll go ballistic.

Microsoft isn't the only place to get operating systems. Although they do have a rather large share of the market :-)
It also wouldn't make too much sense to continue to sell competing versions of the same product from the same company...

Reminds me of the old Ford engine that Ford stopped manufacturing because it wasn’t breaking down enough to be financially pragmatic (as in the cost of repairs). Same concept here I guess. Semi-stable product = semi-unstable profit.

So June 30 is now the official date for end of sales? That's a lot later than the original plan was. I bought my last desktop in November 2006 to avoid the impending release of Vista. Looks like I'll have to purchase my replacement laptop in the next couple months.

Why are they forcing Vista on us when almost everybody hates it? True a computer with vista sells for half as much as as one with XP on ebay.

It will still be for sale. Heck, Windows 2000 is still for sale. You just won’t be able to get it pre-installed from Dell. That’s a benefit in my opinion.

Microsoft, which released its latest wretched operating system, Vista, last year, plans to stop selling Windows XP in stores and through its PC partners on June 30.Die, corporate scum!

Of my last 2 laptops: one has XP Pro, the other is Vista. My chief complaint with Vista (& the MS Office that goes with it) is that they completely changed the menus making it impossible to work with. Why’d they have to do this? I like the XP machine because the menus are close to my Win2K desktops, but I have to hunt for everything with Vista.
Truth be told, I’d be a lot further along the learning curve with Vista by now if I didn’t have (& prefer) the XP machine.
