Weep for Texas - John Cornyn endorses McCain
email from Sen Cornyn | 7 Feb 2008 | John Cornyn

Posted on 02/07/2008 5:35:31 PM PST by Manfred the Wonder Dawg

I wanted to tell you personally about a conversation that I had with Senator McCain earlier today before his CPAC speech.

In this time of war and economic uncertainty, America must have strong, principled leadership. The first and foremost priority of the federal government is National Security, and, we must have a President who will do what is needed to protect America and the American people. It is imperative that we have a Commander in Chief who will not bow to pressure when the political waters become rough. As a fellow member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I have witnessed John McCain’s principled leadership on critical national security issues.

I, like most of you, am deeply concerned with wasteful and excessive Washington spending, and I have also worked side by side with John McCain taking on special interests and fighting the tough battles on behalf of the American taxpayer. While it is true that we have had some principled disagreements on some issues, including certain areas of immigration reform, John McCain is a man of principle and conviction. He shares my deep commitment to reaching a comprehensive solution to immigration reform and I look forward to working with him on this issue when he is President.

With the recent decision by a number of the other candidates to step aside, now is the time for the Republican Party to come together and stand behind Senator McCain. For these reasons, I am honored to endorse him for President of the United States today and will do whatever I can to support his candidacy.

Sincerely, John Cornyn

No, we vote OUT liberals and vote IN conservatives to keep McCain in line. That is the only way I can even consider voting for him.

did you see the movie "Independence Day?"

"I picked a Hell of a time to quit drinking."
But I am getting a head start on getting laid back and disinterested in general.

I wrote him back, explaining why I could not join him in this endeavor, while thanking him for his service. All things considered, I thank God for Sen. Cornyn but can’t go along with this decision.

Curious...... At this stage of the game who would you have him endorse? Huckabee with a slim chance at best or one of the others or some 3rd party neither of which have any chance of becoming the nominee? Or how about Hillary or Obama?

It’s either support one or the other of the main parties as that is where the next President will come from...

Some here, appear to have no concern about a ‘known’ hot-head with his finger on the trigger, singing, “Bomb, bomb, bomb! Bomb, bomb Iran!” at a public gathering. Some here seem to have no concern about a candidate’s age. Some here also don’t seem to mind having an ‘elderly hot-head who’s had the deadliest form of cancer known.’ Guess it doesn’t bother some that he (along with Ted “the Swimmer” Kennedy), authored the Shamnesty Bill, or that he graduated fifth from the bottom of his class, or brought down three planes by his own fault.

Then, there is his explosive outrage at Senator Cornyn:

“In a heated dispute over immigration-law overhaul, McCain screamed, “F- - - you!” at Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who had been raising concerns about the legislation.

“This is chickens- - - stuff,” McCain snapped at Cornyn, according to several people in the room off the Senate floor Thursday..”

And, we, as conservatives, are supposed to embrace and vote for THIS?

That was Airplane I or II, but it was a great line that certainly seems to fit these days.

Here's a revision to the former now inoperative statement:

This isn’t going to be a hold your nose November. It’s going to be a hold your nose, cover your ears, shut your eyes, blot out your memories and do the best you can to control your bowels November.  DoughtyOne

I have always liked him. and the only news I watch is fox *L*

Fox isn't conservative and neither are you.

You've been spamming threads for a few days and you aren't going to convince anyone. This is a conservative website.

P.S. Are you missing a caps key and punctuation keys? Can't the McCain campaign buy you a new keyboard?

We are a nation where only half the electorate votes... and where half of those who do cast ballots vote for criminals, traitors and megalomaniacs while the rest spend all their time arguing which of them is the purist ideologue.

Tough to see much good coming of that.

I don’t care if he is a good man. The question is would he be a good president. In any case, since I am a corrupt racisr bigot, by his testimony, I am certain he doesn’t want my vote!

Sorry, no. Nobody has to endorse anybody, and that is a fine tradition, as well.

An Arizonan will always whip a Texan. That’s just the way things are. The way they’re supposed to be. ;-)

get Michael Steele to run or right him in

Steele has been on FOX today endorsing McCain. So will almost all office holders or political professionals.
