Romney out. Congratulations Freepers on ensuring there was no conservative in the race. (Vanity)

Posted on 02/07/2008 9:51:12 AM PST by mbraynard

You rallied behind someone who never had their heart in the race and was never a leader in their life (Thompson) or never had a chance in hell (Hunter). What is needed more than anything to win the WH is a drive to do the spade work necessary to get there. So by denying Romney victory in IA and NH and SC, and splitting the field, you now have probably the worst enemy of all - someone the Wonderful Mr. Jim Robinson never saw fit to put a 'truth file' on.

So, nice work.

Forgot to mention: I like and agree with you tagline. McCain is probably under the mistaken illusion that his many “friendships” with ‘rat leaders will protect him. Nobody in the media has brought up his major past misdeeds like the Keating 5 mess.

Woohoo - over 600 posts!

Lets just see whom he chooses for his Veep. My prayers are for Jeb - a choice that will take Flow-rida off the table and boost hispanic support (given his Mexican wife).

Veteran, as in long-time (5 years) FReeper. War.

Ah. Well.

You must be happy about Cheney signing the letter on the SCOTUS 2nd amendment case. I recall discussing with you to consider softening condemnation of the solicitor's position.

I don’t recall the conversation, but I agree with Cheney on this. The D.C. handgun ban is clearly unconstitutional.

..."78% said they would “comfortably vote for a Mormon; 10% would do it with reservations; 11% ‘no’).”

And you represent the 11 percent very, very well here on FR. McCain, like the organ grinder, used his favorite little pet monkey, the Huckabee Mormonphobe to sway the gullible bible thumping crowd right where he wanted them. Oh those terrible, terrible Mormons the monkeys screech and the organ grinder grins with the self-satisfaction of the master manipulator. Do monkey's know when they've been played? No. They're just furry little lovable fellows pleasing and protecting their master. What do they know?

Yeah. Aside from his complete unelectability, I would be pressed to vote for McCain over Huck simply out of rage at his “satan’s brother” comment. I’m not LDS, but the way he dropped that line and acted so innocently about it when he knew exactly what he was doing just absolutely enraged me.

“I would be pressed to vote for McCain over Huck simply out of rage at his “satan’s brother” comment.”

His subtle bigotry is a no-starter for me. I’m voting for McCain as a protest vote in the primary. But I’ll probably not vote for McCain in the General election - and it won’t matter anyway. Our first really socialist president will be Barrack Obama. I’ll vote down ticket though for other acceptable GOP candidates.

Well. At least wait and see who McCain's vp is.

However, the R primary voters made one thing clear: the value winning over anything and McCain is and for a long time has been the most electable R. More than 10 indies will make up for each Suicide Conservative.

And I have a hard time figuring who would be easier to beat - Hillary or Obama.

PS - our first socialist president was FDR.

If you are watching the primaries tonight, you are seeing large percentages of voters voting against McCain. The rank and file don’t like liberals like McCain...he is not the most electable. As a matter of fact, he has absolutely no shot at winning. Just look at the low numbers of Republicans voting - they don’t care for the menu.

Likewise. You have a cynical/sarcastic sense of humor much like my own. That usually indicates a technical professional - am I right?

Heh! Used to be: Cut my teeth as an avaition mechanic, later moved on to IT recruiting. These days I'm a writer and editor.

I don’t trust him either, but given that I trust Hillary or Barry to do everything 100% wrong, he’s better than the alternative.

...and McCain is for you. You deserve him so enjoy.

No, a person who would pick Romney back in April or May when there were conservative alternatives deserves McCain, because they picked a RINO and we got a RINO. So, enjoy your candidate.

Thank you for getting bent. When the guys with the long beards come by your house to teach you how to worship their moon god after Obama loses the war, you can all have a big laugh about how the folks who didn’t support Romney back in April are the rel Taliban.

My husband and I supported Mr. Romney since spring. FDT got in the race way too late, and we knew that he would not go anywhere. We also knew that Duncan Hunter would not go anwywhere as well. Simple as that. It’s just basic politics. The one to blame is FDT on how he ran his campaign — no one else.

The ONLY person responsible for the success of a presidential candidate is the candidate. A candidate who can’t succeed without Rush holding his hand has no business running the federal government.

I disagree with the idea of an auto industry bailout, but I would point this out:

Bailing out an industry that employs a huge number of blue collar Americans and is essential for defense is a very different thing from sending a government check to every single American household, including the one headed by Bill Gates and the ones headed by the CEOs of the Big Three automakers. Also, an auto industry bailout would not result in the Congress acting as a second Fed by manipulating the amount of the gubmint checks.

Sorry, but the compariosn you made is like comparing subprime loans to no-strings welfare payments. Both were bad ideas, but one of them is far worse than the other.

Fred had all the right positions, and he'd stand around all day with his hands in his pockets in defense of them. I loved the guy, but if by some miracle he'd been elected he would have been right on every issue and gotten rolled like a fat kid at a soccer match.

You're right. The contest is about more than who's "right on every issue".
