Romney out. Congratulations Freepers on ensuring there was no conservative in the race. (Vanity)

Posted on 02/07/2008 9:51:12 AM PST by mbraynard

You rallied behind someone who never had their heart in the race and was never a leader in their life (Thompson) or never had a chance in hell (Hunter). What is needed more than anything to win the WH is a drive to do the spade work necessary to get there. So by denying Romney victory in IA and NH and SC, and splitting the field, you now have probably the worst enemy of all - someone the Wonderful Mr. Jim Robinson never saw fit to put a 'truth file' on.

So, nice work.

If Hannity, Hewitt, and Rush given Hunter half as much time and effort as they gave Rudy and Romney, things would have been different.

Why even have a Presidential Primary process?

It was over before anyone barely even started voting.
The pundits are most qualified to PICK THE CANDIDATE.
Our opinion, our preference, our vote don’t count.

This whole Presidential selection process is bogus.
Caesar Chavez and Putin must be smiling.
Comrades, the selection process is finished. YOU LOSE!!

You’re giving too much credit to Freerepublic. Remember most freepers endorsed Thompson. We all know how that worked out.

Mitt is a conservative.

You can mock his "flip/flop" but, at least he flopped the right way.

You bet I can, and I will.

Lots of people become MORE conservative as they age.

But all at once? And after they've decided to run for President? No way.

Mitt lacks core principles. He says the right things now, but I don't see any reason to trust that he actually means them.

No, but the attitudes here are reflective of what a lot of other voters have done this year. Many here, the talk show hosts who pushed one or the other candidate and the masses of “conservative” asses who got their heads up and locked over one candidate early on without ever considering any real alternative all helped to bring this about. Before Thompson dropped from lack of support McCain was not doing all that well. Once he dropped a lot of conservatives and GOP supporters just didn’t vote (look at the low percentage of registered republicans who have voted in primaries since). That allows a non-conservative like McCain and his dem supporters to pack in votes for him. They know that they can beat him and they knew that the only way to do that was to keep the GOP split among several low quality choices. It sure worked.

“Lots of people become MORE conservative as they age.
Mitt did. “

This kind of “reasoning” is exactly what turned Freepers off to Romney. He was in his FREAKING 50s before he “became more conservative”. 50 year old men have made up their minds some 20 years earlier where they stand on issues like guns and abortion and they damn sure KNOW they’re right by the time they’re 40.

If you are 50 and suddenly change your mind on guns and abortion, you probably just got saved by Jesus. But Mitt was a LDS Bishop before he was 50 right? So that’s out isn’t it.

The only reason that remains is insencerity. But Mittbots want to make it sound like Romney is 30 and just grew up.

Good riddance to a lying liberal, good riddance Mitt Romney. Please don’t ever come back.

>> He can name Ann Coulter VP and I still would not vote for him.

>> He is feeble, talks to himself, and his wife had to help him off the plane. Something wrong with his face also. If it is cancer, then he is in really bad shape.

If McCain is in such bad health, then that’s all the more reason to support him (particularly if he takes a truly conservative VP nominee).

McCain is 72-years-old. There is a VERY real possibility that he might not last a term. We might backdoor in a President Thompson, President Barbour, or President Romney.

Given the alternatives, Hillary or Obama (each of whom are young enough that longevity is not a problem) — McCain is clearly better for the country ... this is all the more true if an actual conservative is only a heartbeat from the White House.

I am not a McCain fan — but, I will vote for John McCain solely based on his war-on-terror credentials. Its better for the country, though not the party or conservative movement, if we don’t elect someone bent on surrendering in Iraq.

>>There hasn’t been a conservative in the race since Fred quit.<<

Yup.

The problem is that the whole country is moving left. It is very near the time for conservatives to get out or take up arms.

My strategy is to perform the former relatively soon (next few years).

The Republicans proved to me, late in the last century, that they are clearly not our salvation. It wasn’t any one thing. It is a death of a thousand cuts. And the only thing that could turn this country back to conservative would be something MUCH worse than 911 or even Pearl Harbor.

Revelation 17 and 18 are looking more and more like they are referring to the US. And Revelation 18: 4,5 may be good advice.

I agree Hunter had a good conservative record. However, Duncan Hunter's personality did not have the appeal to win particularly in the general nor did he have the ability to raise money.

Conservatives have to get much more realistic and much wiser about the way they choose candidates. It has been years since we've had such a smart, talented, articulate, capable candidate, as the one we saw in Mitt Romney. When we realized Thompson's campaign was going nowhere, Conservatives should have rallied behind Romney. But too many were too egotistical and stubborn to see it. Indeed, some conservatives get what they deserve.

It will be very difficult to vote for McCain. I will not be working for him as I do not believe he can defeat either Hillary or Obama, but particularly Obama.
