Senior al Qaeda leaders have diverted operatives from Iraq across the globe and are increasing preparations to strike the United States, senior intelligence officials told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence yesterday. They said the terrorists had plans to attack the White House as recently as 2006.
"Al Qaeda is improving the last key aspect of its ability to attack the U.S. the identification, training and positioning of operatives for an attack in the homeland," said Michael McConnell, director of national intelligence, which oversees all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies.
"While increased security measures at home and abroad have caused al Qaeda to view the West, especially the U.S., as a harder target, we have seen an influx of new Western recruits into the tribal areas since mid-2006, " Mr. McConnell said.
Mr. McConnell revealed that al Qaeda had plans to specifically target the White House.

Okay and what is new about this.
Won’t happen until sometime after January 20, 2009.
Well they better hurry cause after January 2009 one of their Democrat allies are likely to be living there. /sarc on.
AlQaeda is going to test the new President. If the new President is a woman, you can be sure it will extra messy. God help us all.
Yawn. They are always planning attacks. What’s the context here, McConnell asking for more money so he heightens sense of crisis?
Might as well get it now, Bush is going to collapse the dollar again having given up any non-ridiculous claim we are going to “grow out of the deficit”
Amazing turn of events. Is it time to re-elect Bush? Can’t the republicans find another platform?
Incoming.....
1st thought:
Remember how the pathetic left was attempting to state that Bush let 9/11 happen because of some memo that stated “Al Qaeda determined to attack the United States”?
2nd thought:
What level of attack, number of deaths, will it take for the left to have to shut their frickin’ mouths and let us fight these bastards?
They need wait no longer than November 4, 2008.
Al-Qaeda should wait intil 2009 when they can attend a meet-n-greet in the Rose Garden.
Barack Obama says it’s all just a scare tactic to distract us from the real problems facing our nation.
Right now, we have a President who pays attention to such mundane matters as this. In a year, we may not. If so, we will pay with American lives, and possibly an American city. This is the reality that too many Americans won’t face because there is no answer that leaves them warm and fuzzy, and we will all pay the price.
There will be no terrorist attack on the United States as long as clinton and Obamarama have a chance to get into the White House. The terrorists know they can bribe hilary to quit the WOT for the right price. They also know that Obamarama will just quit for free. So why bother with an attack when your enemy is about to cave?
To quote Napoleon: Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
Meanwhile, Jay Rockefeller, Chairman
of the Senate Intelligence Committee,
is on cspan-2.
Apparently, and amazingly, he seems to be supporting
the Admin’s position of keeping the telecommunications
industry free of civil lawsuits for its assistance
in getting vital information on terrorist plots
and chatter.
“They get suits, they get costs, they begin to pull
away .. their shareholder’s lose confidence.”
“So, why would they want to cooperate?”
Good point, senator.
They’ve got some history now of launching attacks just a while before elections. Like Spain. The aim being to oust the incumbent party.
If there was a new attack, I don’t know if we’d all rally around the flag again or not. Likely as anything we’d all just start eating our own.
Yeah but Hillary is a major biatch who will want to prove that she’s man enough for the job. Might be her only redeeming quality in this case. She would want to serve notice that she’s tough on defense save for Chinese contributions...
