Anti-missile shield for spying on Russia, says Moscow

04.02.2008 12:59

Moscow cannot see any reason for the Polish and Czech antimissile shield installations other than to spy on Russian military defence structures, according to the Russian deputy foreign minister Sergey Kislak.

When asked if Poland would agree on Russian officers’ presence on the antimissile shield sites to give Russia assurance that the installations would not be used against Russia, Kislak said that his Polish colleagues had proposed no such option.

According to the Interfax agency’s sources, during a meeting in Moscow in November 2007, representatives of US foreign and defence ministries promised Russian officers would be granted constant access to the Polish and Czech antimissile systems. But a later formal proposal made by the USA in writing did not mention any such promises.

Siergiej Kislak has also said that Russia will not allow the Russian military installations located in Armavir and Gabala to be used as elements of the new American antimissile shield.

At the weekend, Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski reached an agreement with US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice regarding hosting the controversial US antimissile shield in Poland.

"We have an agreement in principle," Sikorski told journalists on Friday when asked if he had received assurances about US aid for Poland's air defence.

Well Russia should not give up all hope. If Hillary or Obama become President, Im sure they will agree that building defenses is clearly the wrong thing to do.

Maybe it has something to do with when we offered to let them link up and be part of the sysem and they basically spit in our face. I would have taken that as a “no” and left it out too.
sorry Pootty-poo... you missed the opportunity... go build your own.

Pooty-Poot:

At one time you guys controlled all kinds of resources and huge tracts of the Earth's geography, and you still couldn't build a vidcam smaller than a compact car, because under your zany system of opression nobody gives a crap about working hard, and would rather spend their spare time getting drunk on tax-free homebrew potato vodka than inventing anything useful, like the PC or a cheap way to make enough quality toilet paper that you don't have to stand in line most of your adult life just to get your allotment of two rolls.

Given this glorious Peoples' Past, and factoring in that as a market economy we were able to spend your @$$ into oblivion while we still had guns and butter, what makes you think that outside of Mother Russia's only two remaining exports (oil and "posturing") you adorable furry-hatted fuzzballs have anything left that the West wants to spy on? Well, except for some thirty-year old V2-quality ICBM that probably navigate with tubes, and a bunch of untested, obsolete, decaying warheads the size of boxcars? Liste, Ivan...we are quietly more worried about Red China than we ever were of you, and if our Star Wars-scale missile tech lets us put that added measure of protection down elsewhere in the world, don't flatter yourself...it's not that big a deal.

Let me know how that "Five Year Plan" thing works out. Has the dead guy in the glass coffin come back to life yet? Boy, you guys just break me up!
