ATLANTA (AP) The sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer in women is poised to become one of the leading causes of oral cancer in men, according to a new study.
The HPV virus now causes as many cancers of the upper throat as tobacco and alcohol, probably due both to an increase in oral sex and the decline in smoking, researchers say.
The only available vaccine against HPV, made by Merck & Co. Inc., is currently given only to girls and young women. But Merck plans this year to ask government permission to offer the shot to boys.
Experts say a primary reason for male vaccinations would be to prevent men from spreading the virus and help reduce the nearly 12,000 cases of cervical cancer diagnosed in U.S. women each year. But the new study should add to the argument that there may be a direct benefit for men, too.

Are they going to offer a patch to men who are trying to quit?

Quit which? :)
Although the article carefully avoids mentioning it, I would be willing to bet big bucks that the primary rise is in gay men having unprotected oral sex with other gay men.
Female to male transmission via this method is most likely negligible.

I thought what they were dancing around was men performing oral sex on women since they said one purpose of forcing boys to be vaccinated was to help women.
Offer a patch of what?

Sorry about I assumed she was referring to the part of the article that says smoking adds to the risk of the cancer and I was trying to make a joke since I thought what they were saying between the lines was that this was caused by men performing oral sex on women.
Although, now I guess they would have an excuse - “I’m sorry honey, I might get cancer.”
Now about the cure. Avoid talking about promiscuity, a social disorder. Buy legal drugs and have fun.
I guessing it would have to be some kind of anti-depressant. When the momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
“Are they going to offer a patch to men who are trying to quit?”
“A_perfect_lady”
Oh you are not! LOL
Quit the “patch”, of course. I wonder why this wouldn’t also have been transmitted female-to-female with the same throat cancer results, though? But I’m sure someone will come up with an answer lickety-split.
From the article:
[HPV] “It also can cause genital warts, penile and anal cancer risks for males that generally don’t get the same attention as cervical cancer.”
Getting a chance to laugh always seems to help me and I’m pleased if it was of service to you.
I really don’t want a medicine that makes me quit, uh, you know...having the desire to ...uh....
This is series. One more thing to die from.
Definitely a reason to keep your nose clean.
Sounds like that vaccine needs to be made available for boys as well as girls.
I had my older vaccinated and will have my youngest when she is old enough.
My mother was NOT a loose woman, but my father was in Vietnam and brought a gem home...
She died of what was cervical cancer, then uterine, then ovarian. She tested positive for this virus.
Hey, high school kids are going more and more after oral sex. After all, didn’t their esteemed president say it’s NOT sex? What a legacy.
