Please read John McCain: The Anti-Conservative
The media have created the fiction that Sen. John McCain, alone among the Republican candidates, can beat Hillary or Obama this fall. This is a fiction because only a conservative can unite the Republican Party this year and win. Call him “maverick”, call him “independent,” but please don’t call McCain “conservative.”

In his Florida victory speech, Sen. McCain said, “Our party has always been successful when we have, like Ronald Reagan, stood fast by our convictions." But McCain’s Senate record proves he is not a conservative, far less a principled Reagan conservative. As Charles Krauthammer said recently, “McCain's apostasies are too numerous to actually count.” And what McCain says about his record is astonishingly misleading.

The archives at FR have a wealth of info:
The last word: Will ‘Ace’ McCain Flame Out Again?

Over the years he’s played many roles and worn many titles, including Navy aviator, prisoner of war, hero, congressman, U.S. senator, Washington insider, maverick outsider and, now, presidential candidate. But the one title of which few are aware is that of “service ace.”

John Sidney McCain III is known among many of his Vietnam flight buddies as “Ace” McCain. This title has not been bestowed upon McCain because he destroyed five enemy aircraft. On the contrary: It was five on our side — in fact, five of his own. Since throwing his hat into the presidential ring, the fact that McCain was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy nearly at the bottom of his class has been publicized. His star-crossed flying, on the other hand, remains unknown to most.

(snip)

If McCain's candidacy qualified for, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" it'd be one thing. I w/could understand falling on my sword, for the bigger picture.
But this isn't that, not even close.

This is a case of my friend's the friend of my enemy & the establishment GOP's responsible for that. The whole things stinks to high Heaven.

In any event I've a hunch if we're patient, wait until Super Tuesday plays-out, the thing might take care of itself.

To date -- & *statistics* be damned -- we've seen results from a few states.
Without the benefit of hindsight, I consider none of those states, singularly or together, an accurate picture of what's to come.

Unbeknownst to McCain *&* his legions of talking heads and spin Meister's and in spite of all the BS.

...he may already be history.

Once again, I agree with your comments.

As for Super Tuesday aleviating the problem, that would be good. You may be right.

We shall see.

I don’t think you have to be delusional to see yourself differently from the way others see or perceive you. It’s human nature to think that everyone sees things the way you do and as a result to assume that everyone evaluates things from the same perspective. It’s really important, and sometimes very hard, to realize that given the exact stimulus you are likely to evaluate it entirely differently from a coworker or even a relative.

This is not so say that John McCain is not delusional, but to some extent we all are. We see and hear things based on our life experiences. We would see water boarding in an entirely different light if we had spent 5 plus years in a North Vietnamese POW camp. The trick is for the rest of us to consider how someone’s life experiences are going to affect their view of life and be careful not to put someone in a position where a skewed view of some aspect of life can become federal law.

I can’t even begin to imagine the defense mechanisms John McCain had to develop to get by from day to day while he was a POW. And they would continue with him for the rest of his life, despite the fact that they no longer served a useful purpose.

We do the same things, although in a much smaller way. When we were kids we developed all sorts of defense mechanisms to deal with the day-to-day challenges of life. For some it was abusive parents, for others a bully in the rest room and for still others a very shy personality. We develop these little patterns to handle the problem, but when the problem is gone away we don’t always discard the mechanism. The things that let us handle a fifth-grade bully are of little use to us as an adult, but anytime we encounter behavior on someone’s part that reminds us of that bully years ago our response is to automatically turn to that old mechanism. It might have worked then, at least it was our way of handling it, but now that we are adults it is very much out of place and runs the risk of adding to the problem we are facing.

I don’t think there is any way in this world that John McCain could have returned to civilian life after his experiences without having all sorts of problems. His temper is probably just one manifestation of what he had to endure.

I am very sorry. I resorted to name calling without defining my reasoning as I was in a hurry earlier (had to leave the keyboard for a while). I should now better.

My logic in referring to him as delusional, in part, is that I would prefer to think that is an accurate description of him rather than believe that he is capable of out right LIES when it comes to his record. I desire to have NO President who lies as easily as he breathes.

Secondly, his behavior recently, including the last debate, is one of out right arrogance displaying a smug, smirking attitude, as if the Presidential nomination is automatically his and no one else possibly deserves the nomination due to his military service. He presented no other platforms than his military service but has maintained an extremely liberal Congressional record, espcially in the last decade. For example, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, etc. He is pro-amnesty, against tax cuts, has stated that he could not support SCOTUS nominees like Alito (Alito "wears his conservatism on his sleeve"), voted against the Defense of Marriage Act, and is willing to support embryonic stem-cell research.

I will gladly expound the other anti-conservative issues related to his record, if need be, but you should be able to see my point unless you are wholeheartedly committed to McCain, and then any discourse between us will obviously have little meaning and waste your time. I recently held fast to the ideal that we MUST elect the Republican nominee, but through sound, diplomatic, succinct reasoning that I have cone to the realization that I had in actuality permitted myself to forget those tenets that I hold dearest about our nation - the beliefs and intent of our Founding Fathers and the implications of continuing down the road to complete liberalism, which is where we shall be before long.

John McCain is a Democrat in everything but name. Of course, he did contemplate switching parties in '01. IMHO he has never forgotten or moved beyond his resounding defeat by Bush and has done everything in his power to harm Bush's policies and the Republican Party since. Ill will such as his will enable lasting damage to our nation. Due to the antagonism and historical posterity of Jeffords' switch, McCain retained his party affiliation but began to move across the aisle promoting socialist-led agendas and publically deriding and denouncing many of our President's policies openly in the MSM; an act typically unheard of by a Congressional member when their party holds the White House.

He presents as a person who is often incapable of controlling his temper when confronted with questions or responses to which he has no desire to honestly answer. If not, he appears arrogant and holier-than-thou. Please do not mistake my attitude towards him as being derogatory towards either his service to our country or the military. My father retired from the Marine Corps after more than 27 years of service and I have many other family members who have served in the Navy, Marines and Army. I have the utmost respect for every person who has taken the time and risk to serve and defend our country! But their service does not automatically grant them the skills and wisdom to run our nation, even in a post-911 world.

Domenici voted for CFR and I raved at his staffer with whom I'd spoken for years. Our special election congressman (who replaced Richardson and voted for ALL FOUR articles of impeachment) told me, "I guess they didn't want their vote used against them." So, retaining power supercedes the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to these creatures. That's why we called it Incumbent Protection Act. Such is the "honor" of John McCain, that his right to power stacks above our right to free political speech. Who died and made him George the Third.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You've been out ridin' fences,
for so long - now.
Ohh you're a hard one.
I know that you've got your reasons.
These things that are pleasin'you
Can hurt you somehow.

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able.
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table.
But you only want the ones
That you can't get.

Desperado,
Ohhhh you aint getting no younger.
Your pain and your hunger,
They're driving you home.
And freedom, ohh freedom.
Well that's just some people talking.
Your prison is walking through this world all alone.

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine.
It's hard to tell the night time from the day.
And you're losing all your highs and lows
aint it funny how the feeling goes
away...

Desperado,
Why don't you come to your senses?
come down from your fences, open the gate.
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you.
You better let somebody love you.
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you...ohhh..hooo
before it's too..oooo.. late.

Our best shot: 1) Out McCain on every issue in the primary process. Really hurt the old coot. If he ends up with the nomination it’s all out in public anyway and may deflect the impact of it when the Dems attack him; 2) Vote Huckabee to try to drive this to a contested convention in which McCain rose but is now clearly falling in the polls so that the delegates don’t just go McCain as the most popular candidate and the guy with the momentum.

Well to be blunt your plan would have the opposite effect. McCain and Huckabee are in cahoots - no if, and or buts. Huckabee will hand his delegates over to McCain and the shows over. Of course your hatred for all things Romney is so strong that you can't even make a reasonable judgement let alone an astute one. If Romney's eliminated without enough delegates to erase Huckabee's and still deny McCain a plurality than there is no convention to broker.

WTH you been, Meek?
Hope all's been well (for you & your bride), making lots of dough, spreading the conservative Word.

Glad to see you've returned to join the fray.

Precisely the lyric.

Also featured on the cover of Richard Condon's 1959 Manchurian Candidate and the 1962 film of the same name's ad art.

Don'tchoo draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy, she'll beatchoo if she's able

I think I heard that slightly less than a thousand times in 1973.

Now the same card has two faces. Both the same. Hideous.
