Michael Reagan: John McCain Hates Me
townhall.com ^ | January 31, 2007 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 01/31/2008 3:29:48 PM PST by Dems_R_Losers

Until last night, when I watched the Republican debate, I had no idea how much John McCain dislikes me and just about everybody else but Rudy Giuliani, who if you believe The New York Times is a pretty good hater himself.

As I watched McCain and Governor Romney go at it during the debate at the Reagan Library I was struck by the huge gap that separates McCain -- whose contempt for his fellow humans is patently obvious -- and my dad, Ronald Reagan, who had nothing but the deepest affection and respect for the American people.

The feeling is mutual between McCain and me. I don’t like the way he treats people. You get the impression that he thinks everybody is beneath him. He seems to be saying, “I was a war hero, and you had damn well better treat me as your superior.”

He has contempt for conservatives who he thinks can be duped into thinking he’s one of them, despite such blatantly anti-conservative actions as his support for amnesty for illegal immigrants, his opposition to the Bush tax cuts which got the economy rolling again, and his campaign finance bill which skewed the political process and attacked free speech.

Protesting McCain might be the first time some FReepers and Code Pinko types every agree to protest...but for completely different reasons.

Cheers!

'Sorry.. Romney is dead. The campaign is over.

Rush and everyone needs to repent and join the party again."

It is the GOP that is dead.

Damn, and I was just getting into it over the last 24 years.

Don't hold your breath waiting for folks to close ranks with McCain at the helm after what he has done to the Party.  I seriously doubt that will occur.

My husband worked with a guy that was on the Forrestal with McInsane. Said the guy is a real loser and the only reason he still got to fly was because of his Daddy.

I would advise ANYONE, that is considering a vote for Huck,to do some intense study of his positions. He is NOT a conservative, he favors an immigration plan similar to Rudy and McCrap, he raises taxes, etc. Just check it out.

Don’t blindly vote for a “pig in a poke”.

I just hope that the American Circus doesn't get sold to the Chinese before the show closes and moves on!

This time any conservative renaissance will have to factor in 20 to 40 million newly minted & mostly non-english speaking citizens from south of the border.

Ergo, there will not be another conservative renaissance.

If we elect McCain, it will laugh my but off when Hillary is elected.

It'll be a real gut busting knee-slapper to see the security of this country and the free world placed into the hands of the very people who did nothing as Al-Qaeda grew from a handful of radicals into a global threat ... Yesiree, that's gonna be some kind of funny.

And when the terrorists hit us again, at least we'll all be able to comfort ourselves with funny memories of how he got beat by Hillary.

It looks like we will have to learn the hard way. I don’t see much of a difference between McCain and Hillary.

A McCain nomination will get us another president Clinton, as sure as the sun will rise in the east, and regardless of what anyone here says.

Michael Medved is twisting himself into a pretzel trying to defend McCain.

G. Gordon Liddy is doing the same thing. Granted, he has lost a few miles per hour off of his fastball as he has aged. I can't listen to him any longer. He was contorting himself mightily as he tried to explain away McCain's cheap shot on Romney and timetables as an honest difference of opinion.

I don't understand why they carry McCain's water.

You really think John McCain will protect us better than Hillary? After he closes Guantanamo and transfers all those terrorists to U.S. soil and they all get Constitutional rights, forces the CIA to use nothing but nice questions to get information from captured terrorists, and spends more time worrying about global warming than violent jihadists waltzing over the Mexican border into Texas?

LOL

First time since becoming a US citizen in 1970, I will not vote republican if McCain is the nominee

I can not stomach dirty politicians. More so if they are liers also. Making FALSE accusations 2 days before an election crosses the line for me.

It's folly to pretend to know the future with such certainty.

This is how the democrats win close elections these days - a lie can travel around the world before the truth can pull on its socks.

Its a shame, its disheartening - and very revealing - that anyone on 'our side' would employ the same dirty tactic.

Interesting phone call ... it looks like McCain being thin-skinned and seeing himself as a victim of attacks by his fellow Republicans is hardly new. The question is, how will someone in that mindset treat the concerns of the Republican base if he is elected?
