Until last night, when I watched the Republican debate, I had no idea how much John McCain dislikes me and just about everybody else but Rudy Giuliani, who if you believe The New York Times is a pretty good hater himself.
As I watched McCain and Governor Romney go at it during the debate at the Reagan Library I was struck by the huge gap that separates McCain -- whose contempt for his fellow humans is patently obvious -- and my dad, Ronald Reagan, who had nothing but the deepest affection and respect for the American people.
The feeling is mutual between McCain and me. I dont like the way he treats people. You get the impression that he thinks everybody is beneath him. He seems to be saying, I was a war hero, and you had damn well better treat me as your superior.
He has contempt for conservatives who he thinks can be duped into thinking hes one of them, despite such blatantly anti-conservative actions as his support for amnesty for illegal immigrants, his opposition to the Bush tax cuts which got the economy rolling again, and his campaign finance bill which skewed the political process and attacked free speech.

Excellent! This pretty much sums it up.
Michale Hugh Series?
The one true heir to the Reagan Legacy disses the pretender to the throne. Love it!
You might want to fix the spelling of Michael’s name in the headline.
Please correct the spelling of Michael’s first name! Sorry!!!
McCain is a mean geezer. Some geezers are just clueless, but he’s the mean, resentful, hate-filled type.
Sorry.. Romney is dead. The campaign is over.
Rush and everyone needs to repent and join the party again.
If we elect McCain, it will laugh my but off when Hillary is elected. At least then we will be able to get behind someone in 2012 maybe we will be done with RINO’s.
Honestly, nobody likes folks who cannot spell their own name.
That's a mighty big "if" feller.
Oh oh... I like Michael Reagan. I guess it is true that McCain is an a-hole...
I will give my vote to Hillary or Obama if McSlime is nominated.
You go Michael!!! Thanks for saying this for all of us people who find McCain unacceptable.
Many of us have not gone anywhere, were sitting here watching the "party" run away from us at break neck speeds.
And the corpse is too dumb to know it.
Mike Reagan was interviewing McCain in 2000, just before a primary (I forget which) ... and Mike was trying to get some real policy statements from McCain, and all McCain wanted to do was complain about how George Bush’s campaign had (or was) smearing him in South Carolina.
Mike repeatedly tried to focus on issues, but McCain kept shifting to his whines. Finally, Mike slammed down the phone and disconnected McCain and was emphatic that he would not support McCain, and from that point on, he (Mike) would support George Bush.
I heard the exchange, and still remember it. It was “McLame” whining about how he was being so mis-treated (and him - who has totally lied about Romney’s position on Iraq!)
I think McCain will still hold a grudge about Mike Reagan for what happened 8 years ago! (And I am surprised that Mike didn’t mention it here as a reference point to McCain’s unwillingness to answer legitimate questions!!)
Mike
Excellent post!
In the mean time, I will not give up and do all I can to see McCain lose the nomination in favor of Romney who, although my 3rd choice, is still, IMHO, a good site better than McCain.
