It's All Over
The Corner ^ | 01/29 09:47 PM | Michael Graham

Assuming there is no shocking revelation or health issue, the GOP nomination is over. Conservatives need to start practicing the phrase "Nominee presumptive John McCa....."

Sorry, I can't say it. Not yet.

But it's true. When the campaign comes here to Massachusetts on February 5th, I'll proudly cast my vote for any option on the GOP ballot other than You-Know-Who. But it will be a futile gesture. Mr. "1/3rd Of The GOP Primary Vote" is going to be the nominee.

He's going to win the big, left-leaning states on Tuesday. Huckabee will stay in and deny Romney a one-on-one contest for GOP voters that Captain Amnesty would almost certainly lose. The result: More wins for He Who Must Not Be Named, and fewer wins for Romney—regardless of delegate count. Florida has launched the one ship that Romney's money and Rush Limbaugh cannot stop: The U.S.S. Inevitable. It's gonna happen. Even if there were a realistic pathway to stop him, the media have seized control of the process now and are declaring him inevitable. He is, after all, the favorite son of the New York Times.

So it is over. Finished. In November, we'll be sending out our most liberal, least trustworthy candidate vs. to take on Hillary Clinton—perhaps not more liberal than Barack Obama, but certainly far less trustworthy. And the worst part for the Right is that McCain will have won the nomination while ignoring, insulting and, as of this weekend, shamelessly lying about conservatives and conservatism.

You think he supported amnesty six months ago? You think he was squishy on tax cuts and judicial nominees before? Wait until he has the power to anger every conservative in America, and feel good about it.

Every day, he dreams of a world filled with happy Democrats and insulted Republicans.

Going independent is worth your while. That way your vote is never taken for granted.

Maybe it’s just because I don’t know where Mitt Romney will turn up next, but can we ask members of the Free Republic to get out from behind the key board and support anyone other than You-Know-Who?

It’s over if we quit; if we don’t put a microscope to shady voting practices, if we lay down and let apathy take over. I can’t imagine that FReepers are dumb enough to let McCain snatch up delegates.

Can we flood Huckabee’s office with e-mails encouraging him to get out and give Mitt a chance since he clearly has none. (You’d think he’d get a clue from John Edwards who has numbers similar to Huckabee.)

I’m sure someone on this forum has better ideas that I have, but collectively, we are a force to be reckoned with. I realize there are John McCain supporters out there, and all I can ask you to do is read about what this man supports, and examine if it’s in line with your values. If his level of compromise doesn’t resemble selling out to you, then look again.

Yes, but we cannot give up. The more votes that Romney gets, the further McCain will have to drift to the right through the convention.

I do agree with those who suggest that last night was a devastating walk into the darkness, but I would argue that if we can survive two years of Hillary or Obama, we will do extremely well in the 2010 midterms and can oust an incompetent RAT president in 2012.

Remember, this is how we got Reagan in 1980; after 4 years in the wilderness with Carter.

If it weren;t for the WOT and the Supreme Court, I’d say, let the RATS win and ensure that McCain loses.

I agree. I can also re-register prior to primaries to affect change if I like.

Same here. That is the beauty of being independent, become a team member when it is most needed, in the primaries.

As this McCain abomination campaign escalates, I can only see myself getting away from political News.

I simply do not have the stomach for watching this jerk spewing out his lying BS.

He’ll never get a vote from me, and I’m going to tell everyone I know about some of the things that I have recently learned about this so called hero. (I suppose that I simply never needed to know before.)

He may have endured more than Effing Kerry in Viet Nam, but he is certainly as fantastic a liar as is the French one.
