Washington - Congressman Christopher Carney (D-10) became a member of the bipartisan Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, which is dedicated to the right of lawful individuals to own firearms as stated in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
As an avid sportsman, I value the time I spend taking my own children hunting. As a Member of Congress, I know that we must fight to preserve the Constitutional right for individual citizens to keep and bear arms. Hunting and shooting sports are valued traditions in Pennsylvania, and I will always fight to protect the Constitutional right to bear arms, said Congressman Carney.
The Second Amendment Caucus is opposed to the banning of firearms, their accessories, their manufacture and their importation, and recognizes the right of lawful citizens to carry a weapon both at home and while traveling the nation.
I have been vigilant to the assaults hurled upon the Second Amendment during my time in office and I joined the caucus to continue the fight, continued Carney. The Constitution is clear on thisAmericans have the right to bear arms, and I will fight to protect it.

Congressman Carney seems to think it is. Why do these politicians cling to the “hunter/sportsman” concept time and again?
Is there a list of members of this caucus? I would like to see if my congressman is a member.
Is he a “Fudd” like Jim Zumbo or does he support our right to own “EBR’s”...”Evil Black Rifles” like AR-15’s FN-FAL etc.?

I applaud a Dem coming over to the 2nd Amendment Caucus....but he needs to drop the sporting and hunting thing.
Chris opposes the over-regulation of guns owned by responsible Americans. Firearms safety education is an essential aspect of gun ownership, helping create a culture that respects the rights of gun owners and acknowledges their responsibilities. Chris supports a waiting period for handguns and restrictions on certain types of "special" ammunition to help ensure that neither falls into the hands of criminals or terrorists.

The GOP is challenging this first term congressman so I think he’s getting Second Amendment “religion” in fear of his political future.
They go only so far so they do not risk looking like true patriots-which of course is not politically correct nor will it be, regardless of which party is in power.
For a sitting elected offical to say “the 2A is a key device in which the founding fathers embedded the means for the poeple of this nation to be able to deny the governemnt the ability to become tyrants” would probably make them unelectable “radicals”.

Interestingly, the word lawful does not appear in the Second Amendment. What is more interesting is the word lawful does not appear in the other nine either.
It never ceases to amaze me how little most American Citizens understand about their Constitution, how it works and what it does.
The Second Amendment is not about hunting...

Just because he has a "D" behind his name doesn't make him an anti. Of course, I do not have any first hand knowledge of this guy, but am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until he (or someone else) shows me otherwise
And we don’t have to fight! The 2nd stands on it’s own untill 66% of the states ratify and change it
Because the NRA had drilled it into their heads, and the heads of much of the nation, that it’s all about “sports”.
He’s trying for political inoculation on this point. If the Republicans nominate a conservative challenger, he’s toast. The only reason he’s a congressman in the first place is because the previous Republican congressman, Don Sherwood, tried to strangle his mistress and then had the temerity to try to be re-elected (and the PA party leadership, noticeably out of touch with PA voters, let him).
Because we live in a politically correct age where the idea of people taking up arms to protect their liberty is considered shocking and horrifying. Years ago at my university I was discussing gun issues with some of my associates. One of them said the only reason the second amendment was written was because back then people on the frontier still needed to hunt to get their meals. But since we no longer “need” to hunt, there’s no reason for anyone to have a gun anymore.
I told them the second amendment is there because an armed populace is a deterrent to despotism. The place grew deadly silent, as if I had spoken heresy. “You’re surely not suggesting that it’s ever appropriate to take up arms against the government!” was the response someone eventually stammered out. I pointed out that the Founding Fathers did just that, and that if government becomes oppressive we would be in our rights to take action. People were just appalled, especially a couple of women, who began harping about how violence is never appropriate and we need to all learn from Gandhi, King, etc.
People today are just too weak to accept the idea of a vigilant, liberty-loving population. They’d rather submit than fight.

are you a member? Well I am, a life member and have been a member for 26 years. Yes the sports are included and it is good to have, it brings in new members, and keeps interest up for things non-political...which can get old after a while....but the NRA constantly preaches the 2nd amendment as it stands in the constitution...and how it affects us in our everyday lives, as self protection and a guarantee of all the freedoms.

I think it’s safe to say that the bulk of your then “associates” live in the open door insane asylums we call cities; while the “vigilant, liberty-loving” folk have them surrounded.
It’s very frustrating dealing with the pro-gun/anti-NRA people. The NRA serves a great function. If people don’t think they go far enough join another organization also. The politicians fear the huge number of members the NRA has. But you are correct, the NRA constantly preaches the TRUE meaning of the 2nd Amendment in nearly all monthly American Rifleman magazines.
