Now It Was 1961. (Hillary Was 13)
A Willing Suspension of Disbelief ^ | 01/28/2008 | Pjsbro

The Clinton campaign website now has two different dates that Hillary saw Dr. King:

The campaign has scheduled an event with Don Jones who they now say "was Hillary's youth minister and first took Hillary to hear Dr. Martin Luther King speak in 1961". (Hillary would have been 13 at the time)

At the speech she gave in Selma, she said she saw him "on a cold January night" in 1963, when Mrs. Clinton was 15.

And two weeks ago she told Tim Russert "I was 14 years old when I heard Dr. King speak in person".

That would have been in 1962.

Yes, she was a Goldwater Girl.

Best thing the "Beast" ever was.

The dates don’t bother as much as why a youth pastor would take her to see him in the first place.

It's OK. Have you seen pictures of her then? I'm quite certain everything was on the up-and-up.

If he is “genital” and she is “congenital”, doesn’t that put them on OPPOSITE sides of the issue?

So why is he campaigning for her?

Maybe it was someone she mistook for King. You know, to her, a cloistered white girl whose only contact with non-whites was the children of the migrant workers she baby-sat for, black folk probably all look alike.

I would surmise that many whites were not going to see King speak in 1961, the earliest date mentioned.

If her lips are moving, she’s lying.

My default opinion always is that Hillary is lying unless I see concrete proof to the contrary.

I thought Don Jones was the Methodist youth minister who turned her from a Goldwater Girl into the lefty she became at Wellesley (through the use of the left-wing Methodist magazine called “motive”) during her impressionable high school years, not when she was 13. However, he may have known her at that time.

Everything I know about Hillary’s early years, I read in I believe Ed Klein’s book. It’s worth reading, if you haven’t. It offers a lot of insight into her personality and how it developed into what it is today.

The question is not whether she went to see/hear MLK in 1961, 1962 or 1963.

The real question is exactly when did she give MLK the copy of the speech she wrote about "I have a dream?"

OH GOOD GRIEF. fault somebody’s memory for something that may have happened 46-47 years ago ?

Now if it never happened, that’s a different story.

Apparently this IS the story.

Well, the paper was a bit damaged from the freezing temperatures atop Mt. Everest, but still readable.

The details of the date probably don't matter, but the issue is one of competence and truthfulness, both of which seem in short supply at the Clinton campaign.

How could the campaign let Hillary give a major civil rights speech in Selma with the wrong date?

Why didn't Hillary catch the error when she proofread the speech?

Why does the Clinton campaign still have two different dates of the event on its website?

I could go on but just go here for the ugly details.

Does anyone remember back in ‘63?? How it was??

Yes, actually I do. I was on my own in Chicago in '63 when I was 16 years old; and I was from Long Island! Yes, I was traveling with my father, but he had work to do so I went to baseball games, the Museum of Science and Industry, movies, and anything else that interested me by myself. (And I had been doing the same thing every summer since I was eleven years old.) I wasn't particularly interested in politics then, so a King event wouldn't have been for me. But as for how it was, it really was a different world. I also made my first solo trip into NYC when I was eleven years old. I took the train in, and then the subway up to the Hayden Planetarium; and then after that I was a regular at MSG, Yankee Stadium, and the Polo Grounds. It really wasn't a big deal.

In my opinion, this has all the right ingredients for another Swift Boat. If Hillary was part of a church group that went to see MLK, then surely there are still members of that group that can either corroborate or repudiate her story. Hillary’s made-up story will be shredded to pieces once people involved start speaking the truth.

Shades of Where’s Waldo or Forrest Gump. Hillary was at every meaningful event in the 20th century. Even those that happened before she was born. Her mother named her after a famous explorer that didn’t become famous for several more years. Amazing.

According to one Clinton biographer, there were 20 kids that went with Hillary.

Not one of these kids has ever been quoted about it.

Don Jones and Hillary are the only source.

I'm thinking about putting up a reward on e-bay for anyone from that group that will come forward to vouch for her.

Now if you were introduced to Mickey Mantle in 1963 don’t you think you would remember the exact date hour and minute it happened?
