Poll: Just a quarter of Californians open to supporting Bloomberg

THE RACE: Bloomberg in the presidential race in California

---

THE NUMBERS - Would consider supporting Bloomberg for president in 2008

All voters, 25 percent

Democrats, 23 percent

Republicans, 20 percent

Independents/others, 38 percent

---

THE NUMBERS - See a Bloomberg independent candidacy as good for the country

All voters, 29 percent

Democrats, 25 percent

Republicans, 25 percent

Independents/others, 47 percent

---

OF INTEREST:

Presidential speculation has swirled around New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg since he switched from Republican to independent last year. But Californians do not have an automatic positive response to Bloomberg, who made billions with his self-named financial data company. Just 14 percent of voters view him favorably, while 38 percent view him unfavorably. The remaining 48 percent have no opinion about him. Those numbers hold steady regardless of party affiliation.

---

The Field Poll of 496 registered voters was conducted by telephone from Jan. 14-20. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

25% will support this guy? Probably swamps the number who would support McCain or Huck.

It’s disturbing that his support among Republicans and Democrats is apparently equal.

So if he runs third party, it may not help the Republicans after all—especially if the Republicans manage to nominate a dog of a candidate.

(With apologies to dogs and dog owners.)

True. lol.. he still faces an uphill battle

snip from the poll results analysis.

The results indicate that only about half (52%) of voters in this state have an opinion of Bloomberg, and that among those who do, many more view him unfavorably (38%) as favorably (14%).

In addition, just 25% say they would consider supporting Bloomberg if he were to run as an independent in this year’s presidential elections. This compares to 62% who say they definitely would not support him.

This is because they don’t know who he is. He went through this with Lindsey. He wanted to be president. The further away from New York, the better he polled. In a real situation Mother Bloomberg would pull no more than 7% and draw heavily from the beast. Real men would never vote for the beast or Mother Bloomberg. Of his votes 75% would be rats 20% Indies and 5% crazy rinos. All of these people would vote for him because they couldn’t vote for her, but would NEVER vote for a Republican.

You are so right. My boss (D) said she will go independent this time. She wouldn’t even consider voting for Rudy!
