Climate change 'significantly worse' than feared: Al Gore
Breitbart ^ | Kanuary 24, 2008 | Staff

Recent evidence shows "the climate crisis is significantly worse and unfolding more rapidly than those on the pessimistic side of the IPCC projections had warned us," climate campaigner and former US vice-president Gore said.

Now it’s “climate change” What happened to “global warming”?

They got tired of not having answers for people who asked why it's co cold.

He must be getting worried. The anti global warming scientists are closing in on him.

Every time Algore rachets up the hysteria, he gets another few minutes of fame. The sky is falling alright, right on top of Gore’s smoke and mirros act, and he knows it. Pretty quick, he’ll have to be talked in off of a window ledge. The man is absolutely phobic about being obscure and irrelevant

Warmer Ocean Could Reduce Number of Atlantic Hurricane Landfalls

A warming global ocean, which is influencing the winds that shear off the tops of developing storms, could mean fewer Atlantic hurricanes striking the United States, according to new findings by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration climate scientists. Furthermore, the relative warming role of the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans is important for determining Atlantic hurricane activity.

The article, to be published Jan. 23 in Geophysical Research Letters, uses observations to show that warming of global sea surface temperatures is associated with a secular, or sustained long-term increase, of vertical wind shear in the main development region for Atlantic hurricanes. The increased vertical wind shear coincides with a downward trend in U.S. landfalling hurricanes.

“We looked at U.S. landfalling hurricanes because it is the most reliable Atlantic hurricane measurement over the long term,” says Chunzai Wang, a physical oceanographer and climate scientist with NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory in Miami and lead author on the article. “Using data extending back to the middle 19th century, we found a gentle decrease in the trend of U.S. landfalling hurricanes when the global ocean is warmed up. This trend coincides with an increase in vertical wind shear over the tropical North Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, which could result in fewer U.S. landfalling hurricanes.” For the article, Wang worked with Sang-Ki Lee of the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies-University of Miami.

In terms of hurricane strength, Wang notes, “The vertical wind shear is not the only factor affecting Atlantic hurricane activity, although it is an important one.” Other factors include atmospheric humidity, sea level pressure, and sea surface temperature.

This study also suggests that where the global ocean warming occurs is important for determining the vertical wind shear in the Atlantic hurricane main development region — within the 10 degrees and 20 degrees North latitude belt that stretches from West Africa to Central America. Whether future global warming increases Atlantic hurricane activity will depend on the relative role induced by sustained long-term warming over the tropical oceans.

Observations from 1854 to 2006 show a warming of sea surface temperature occurring almost everywhere over the global ocean, with large warming in tropical regions of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Warmer waters in the tropical Pacific, Indian, and North Atlantic oceans produce opposite effects on vertical wind shear; that is, warming in the tropical Pacific and Indian oceans increase vertical wind shear in the Atlantic’s main hurricane development region, while warming in the tropical North Atlantic decreases vertical wind shear. Overall, warming in the Pacific and Indian oceans is of greater impact and produces increased levels of vertical wind shear which suppresses Atlantic hurricane activity.

You wonder how the prince of the new-age, Gaia-worshipping envirochondriacs takes his coffee? Are you sure you want to know?

Not after mousing over a link that has "coffee enemas" in it. ;-)

Now they did it. Watch for a nasty year next year.

Seems like every time some scientist makes some pronouncement that something happens because of thus and such, the opposite happens.

He means the Climate Change Movement is significantly worse off than feared.

Yup! Just saw on FNC this morning that the Climate Change Cult is saying that Globull Warming is STOPPING hurricanes from forming. Ok, so, climate change was causing the big bad hurricanes of a few years ago, and now climate change is causing the lull in hurricanes of the last couple of years.

Why does ANYONE believe this crap anymore?

Don't you understand that this abnormally cold weather is caused by Global Warming altering the flow of warming ocean currents? By moving the Gulf Stream further East from their exclusive Kennebunk Compound, the Bush Family are enjoying cooler summers, while everywhere else on the planet, women, children, gays, and members of federally protected minority groups suffer agonizing heat and huge utility bills.

And don't any of you VRWC members start telling me again about when Greenland was green, or when they grew wine grapes in Scotland. Every man, woman, child, homosexual, and yes, even minority group member on this planet is going to die. But, as Al Gore and Mr. and Mrs. Clinton have told us, this Bush-caused catastrophe can be averted if we all join hands in a circle and sing "Coombyah," and then vote every Republican in the country out of office.
