Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

"Huckabee isn’t a RINO. He says that his most important issue is securing the border and deporting illegals. He wants to build the fence and hire more border patrol agents. Last week, he signed a “No Amnesty” pledge. While he was a governor, he cut taxes and fees 90 times. He also proved, while governor, that he’s pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-gay marriage. Which of those views is liberal?"

Are you on drugs, or are you just not paying full attention?

Maybe we just read different reports.

I don’t think it was Hunter who was snookered, I think it was his supporters who were the ones who were snookered.

Absolutively.

Excuse me, I didn’t say anything to you or about you, nor did I say anything about Romney.

You’re a piece of _____________ (fill in the blank).

“I expect the NRA and NRTL to endorse Huckabilly too.”

The NRA won’t endorse a candidate in the primaries. I heard the NRTL dude say today on a Christian talk radio program that the NRTL was not endorsing anyone else at this time. After they picked Fred and he dropped out, it put some egg on their face. I doubt they will endorse again. So, even though I support Huckabee, I do not expect him to be endorsed by the NRA or NRTL.

Additionally, I also don’t expect Fred to endorse any candidate, especially not Mike. However, wouldn’t that be funny if he did? Boy, some heads here would really explode. However, that has a non-existant probability.

I doubt though that he really had a chance for the VP slot.

What VP spot? Huck is finished. The world caught on. Except for Hunter. Hunter has a MAJOR judgment problem. Glad he's out, too.

"I will be voting Romney (barring anything unforeseen)."

You can do that, but if you're in a state where you can vote for Obama, that's the way to go.

The GOP nom is going down to Romney v. McCain, and Romney is going to prevail. If you're in a competitive Super Tuesday state, go with your instinct as stated. If you're anywhere else, go Obama.

Why? Because Romney-Thompson v. Obama-Whoever in Nov.? Foggedaboudit.

I agree with you ~ it’s more personal than political.

I’m OK with Mitt, but the mandatory Health Insurance requirement was a very very bad Law that he still praises.

Hunter must have been promised a VP or cabinet slot with the Huck. Their positions on Immigration, Taxes, etc are too far apart for this to make sense.

You're not wrong about that. Good post. Just hang loose these next couple of months. All is for the best right now. Wheels are turning.

I’m absolutely SHOCKED!!! I heard it on the radio today and thought I misunderstood what was said. Alas, it is true. So, I’ll put my vote for the one Ann Coulter endorsed, Mitt.

"..Romney didn’t crack down on the sanctuary cities in MA when he was governor. "

Please define what you think that Mitt should have done with these incorrigible municipal governments.(?)

I am disheartened to read this.... would have rather he NOT endorse any of the rest of the herd. Hunter’s endorsement won’t cause me to support Huckabee... I do not like push pollers. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

The NRA announced a long time ago that they may be forced to endorse in the primaries this time.

IMO the only thing that stopped them was Huck, Fred, and Hunter were all still in and had good records on guns.

Huck is all thats left and they will give him a boost now if they can.
