Now it can be told- The Thompson story
foxnews.com ^ | 1/22/2008 | by Carl Cameron

Back in March of 07 at the CPAC convention in DC several former Fred Thompson Congressional staffers told me Fred Thompson was thinking about a run. Some of his Tennessee cronies had been talking him up too.

I reported first that he was eyeing a White House bid. At the time several insiders told me OFF THE RECORD that it was largely a trial ballon to guage his popularity and float his name as a possible vice presidential nominee. I was sworn to silence.

Isn’t he a little old to be VP? We don’t need another Cheney situation.

Carl sprung the report of W’s DUI way back when, just before the elections. Reliable? Never have forgiven him for that.

The schadenfrude I will experience over that particular myth if/when Thompson joins the Romney ticket will be quite satisfying.

That is so much crap. What this tells us is who the moles were.

Backstabbing, lying, two faced, disloyal employees.

Traitors to our nominee and our Country.

Dr. Jack Wheeler said this long ago, Thompson as VP.

The circle has been closed, and Fred Dalton Thompson is waiting to see if he gets the call from the eventual nominee.

Yes, I hope Romney does ask him. We couldn't get him for President, but I'll take him as VP.

I may be supporting RuPaul, myself. Just not for the same reasons.

Wow, if true this story would indicate that Thompson really sabotaged the Conservative movement by preventing siphoning conservative support away from Rep. Hunter when Sen. Thompson was really not interested in getting into the race to win. Obviously this story may not be true but if it is then Thompson’s supporters should be outraged.

It does explain the bizarre rumoring from the start that he didn’t really want it or that he didn’t act like he wanted it.

I'm sure the story was meant to do just that.

And you fell for it huh, poofter? Your "insiders" played you or you made it up, SOP Carl.

Oh and Carl, you can't spell "balloon" or gauge?

I was sworn to silence.

That's how good your word is huh?

(I tried for his name in the "to" field, but had to break it up a little...)

The New Batman flick looks pretty good in the previews.

Our family is really looking forward to it! We loved Batman Begins because it was a serious treatment of the character, not a cartoon version like the previous Batman movies were.

I am leaning Paul also. He is far out on national defense, but spot on on the Constitution and life issues.

You know people keep saying so and so and McCain are personal friends.. but who, in the senate, is McCain REALLY friends with other than Lindsay Graham, his lap boy, and Lieberman, Kerry and Kennedy????? It is not GOP senators he invites back to his vacation home here in Sedona... it is the liberman wing of the senate.

How can you focus on such trivial speculation when Heath Ledger is dead?

I saw that. Who is Heath Ledger? Actor, singer?

Backstabbing, lying, two faced, disloyal employees.

Which says something about how the campaign was hindered, doesn't it?

It would take 40 years to undo the harm Hillary would do to the country with a democratic majority senate and congress.... Ruth Bader Ginsberg was her pick... as was Janet Reno and others ..... so, no thanks.....

I guess that’s why McCain will loose FL and every state on Feb 5.

Thompson did not endorse anyone and I don’t think he will, it’s enough to know that the people like myself who were rooting for him can make up our own minds.

Fred didn’t sabotage conservatism. He put conservative issues front and center in his campaign. He always espoused them during the debates, and for a day or two, after his policy announcements, he even had some in the media talking about them, before they went back to ignoring him. When he gave campaign speeches, and he did give quite a few, he talked up conservatism, smaller government, lower taxes, and respect for life. He made the other candidates follow in his footsteps in espousing conservative ideas, too, even if it tasted like ash in their mouths.

Well, I know last weekend when word got out his mother was ill only one candidate called him to inquire into her health — and it was before he indicated he would drop out.

Heath Ledger was an actor. He played one of the lead characters in Brokeback Mountain, which we didn't bother seeing. He also played in the movies Four Feathers, The Patriot, and Monster's Ball. He played The Joker in the upcoming movie Dark Knight, which is a sequel to Batman Begins. He was actually pretty talented. His demons caught up with him early.
