Is This The Sound of Pro-Choice Conceding Defeat?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

What if pro-choicers wrote a column filled with well-articulated pro-life arguments . . . and never mustered a substantive response? Would it suggest they have effectively conceded defeat on one of the great moral issues of the day?

That "what if" becomes reality in Abortion's battle of messages in today's LA Times. As noteworthy as the column's substance is the identity of one of the co-authors: none other than leading pro-choice light Kate Michelman, past president of NARAL [and current John Edwards advisor].

Consider these excerpts, which with minor editing could just as easily have come from a Bill Buckley column.

“...like the woman who served as the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade?”

I believe her name was Virginia McCorvey.

Her name was (and is) Norma McCorvey.

Sounds to me like the abortion movement is fresh out of ideas, inspiration, and justification. And Michelman looks positively terrible in that photo.

Michelman and Kissling want a deeper dialog, but they don’t realize that that’s dangerous enemy territory from their point of view. If they dare tread away from the ‘60s “rights rage” milieu to that of today’s responsibility orientation, they’re going to find that devoid of both offense and defense. Even Big Media can’t cover for them there. In short, they’re painted into a horrendous corner.

And Jonah Goldberg has a piece on the LAT’s opinion page? I heard there were changes there, but this is refreshing, albeit some of it unintentional.

Thanks, GL.

From the article: “The court’s 2007 decision on so-called partial-birth abortions was an unprecedented infringement on physician autonomy. “

Colossal gall! The infants whose brains were sucked out had NO autonomy ‘over their own bodies,’ but we’re supposed to worry about the physician’s autonomy?

(Kate hasn’t really aged that well, has she?)

The pro-abortion movement have being out of ideas for a long time.

They are on the wrong side and most of them knows it. Their intransigence have been all about “because I want to” for a long time, not about being on the right side of the moral argument. Deep down, everyone knows being able to have casual sex is not a good enough reason to murder your child.

"Deep down, everyone knows being able to have casual sex is not a good enough reason to murder your child."

If it's a woman's body and a woman's choice, why should any man ever have to pay for an abortion or child support (except in cases of incest or rape). If a woman has sex with say 200 men in a week (her choice) and somehow gets herself pregnant (her choice again) why should the sperm donor have any responsibility for the cost of an abortion or supporting a child resulting from that donation?

Comments please...

One of my 'guilty' pleasures is reading the trashy celeb websites. In the past week or so, on PerezHilton (and other sites as well) there was a post of Pam Anderson 'no longer being pregnant.'

Ohmigosh, I was just reading that myself and thinking the same things you did. (I was looking for Heath Ledger gossip.)

And yet Planned Parenthood still gets government funds and builds abortion mills using third-party stooge contractors.

When Premeditated Butcherhood gets shut down and their bankroll dries up, I’ll believe the battle has been won. Not until then.

On our old van, we had a pro-life sticker that read “Ya Mama was Pro-Life, Dawlin”. One day we had a couple of twenty somethings riding along beside us, and the chick driving held up a sign that read, “My mother is pro-choice”. She apparently didn’t understand the meaning of our bumper sticker. ;o)
