Fred Thompson is noticably absent from the campaign trail this week.
After finishing third in the South Carolina primary over the weekend... Many wonder if he may drop out of the race before Tennessee and Georgia vote.
But Tennessee Republican Party Chairwoman Robin Smith says his Carolina finish still gives Thompson prominence, and he shouldn't be ruled out just yet.
Smith says, "I think people are starting to ask the question, 'Is he a viable candidate?' I think that's the big question, and we'll have to wait for a couple more days I'm sure."
Smith says the deciding factor will likely come down to how much money the Thompson campaign can raise for a last minute push in Florida.
I think you are right. Money is very tight here right now. BUT, if Fred hangs in even I will do what I can. PLEASE Fred, we need you!
I donated on that link last night.
My account reflects that.
Quit trying to scare people off.
BTW, Soliton, while I have your attention, you are not a very nice person.
I don’t think you are, either, ToryNotion.
MOgirl, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother.
God bless you for taking care of her.
I went through the same thing with my daddy this time last year.
I went home to help care for him so that he could spend his last days in his home.
Bless your heart for real...you and your mother are in my prayers.
Shelayne, keepitreal’s link works just fine.
Good news bump after all the lamestream media — including Fox News Channel — today seem to only have Fred out of the race.
Oh, that’s good to know. I just accessed it a different way, and it worked as well.
Thanks for letting me know.
This is not a comparison of Fred and George Washington, just some history for you. George Washington campaigned all over the rural areas. When he was a few minutes outside each town, he stopped and cleaned up. Then he changed his mount from a run of the mill horse to his beautiful stallion. There were oohs and ahhs as he rode in. ‘George Washington slept here’ were signs all over the country. I’m sure he changed back once he left to save the stallion’s energy.
You know who has even less of a chance at being president then Fred ? Ron Paul.
I believe Fred knows he can raise the funds he needs. Every time a goal was posted it was met and then some. Why all the talk about he is out of funds?? Makes no sense to me. The truck was for SC I know. But after the goal for SC was met the goal was raised for “on to FLorida”. That goal was met and the funds kept coming in. Now the truck is not updated even though folks have still been donating. I know the 1.5mil goal for midnight last night would have been met if the truck was still up and running. For all we know that goal was met but the donations not recorded on the truck site. Plus, as far as I know, our local campaign worker has not been on half pay for a month as Carl Cameron has said about Fred’s campaign workers. What do you think is going on? When will Fred make his announcement?
Actually if you got to know me personally I think you'd have a different opinion. I spent most of yesterday posting to this site when I should have been working. I thought the members of this site might engage in honest debate about the candidates and about the candidate whom I happen to favor in this election. Instead I got venomous personal attacks on myself and my candidate. For too many on this site this election is about nothing but raw, naked greed for power. A honest man like Ron Paul tells the truth to power and he gets nothing but abuse and scorn as do his supporters. So I apologize if I got a little cranky towards the end of the day.
And your evidence that Ron is crazy is...

Repeating my post above and adding this chart as of Jan.7th for all to see. Funds continue to come in for Fred even with us waiting to hear from him!

“Huckisn’t going anywhere anyway.”
Including Florida. Florida radio news this morning stated rather pointedly that Huckabee is the only Republican candidate not campaigning in Florida. Thompson’s not here, either, but they didn’t say that.
Here in Central Florida I have yet to see so much as a Huckabee yard sign.
Thanks for that the link. Thats shows the credits but not the debits so its hard to know where a particular candidate is standing finance-wise. The number for Ron Paul is a bit low as I think there is a lag between donations in real-time and filings with the FEC.
Fred supporters, I wish your man well. He seems pretty conservative to me on most things and that is a good thing. I’m pretty sure he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and thats a show stopper for me. That tells me he’s more interested in an Empire than a limited Constitutional Republic. Give me a Republic where I can be free, not an Empire where I’ll eventually be a serf.
But what I don’t see is any references to campaigning in future states, such as Florida or any of the Super Tuesday states.
For the author to just put that out without providing the obvious reason is disgusting.
I agree with you. FL being winner take all makes it different from Iowa and SC. The only reason to waste precious resources there is if he had a chance to WIN the thing. As far as the debate goes, that would be a GOOD thing for him to do, except not if his mother is too ill for him to do it.
As you know, FL is a winner take all state. Rudy, Mitt, and McCain have to compete. Huck has no chance so moving on costs him nothing.
I think Fred is putting off announcing dropping out to help McCain again. It’s clear that his votes will mostly go to Mitt and Rudy. A lot of votes for Fred have already been made.
The thing the MSM has purposely forgotten to mention is that SC was as much a must win for Huckabee as it was for Thompson, and Huckabee didn’t win it either. Huckabee hasn’t expanded his appeal beyond evangelicals and has lost every bit of the momentum he had coming out of Iowa. He’s done. Giuliani’s on a down trend and unless he pulls off a miracle in Florida, he’s done. It’s going to come down to McCain vs. Romney. Whichever of those two wins Florida will have enough momentum to sweep Super Duper Tuesday.
I can’t believe I’m reduced to hoping Romney wins.
