A new law requiring California public schools to, among other things, allow students to 'choose their own gender' when deciding whether to use the boys or girls restroom and locker room is a glaring example of the cultural assault taking place in America. At stake are the minds, values and ideals of the children who parents send off to school. The law went into effect Jan. 11. SB 777 claims to be about creating safe schools, and prohibiting discrimination based upon gender....The law alters the definition of the word "sex" as being biological...and defines "gender" as "sex" based upon a person's gender identity or gender-related appearance and behavior, and not upon their natural sex at birth.
A supporter of the legislation, Debbie Look of the California PTA, told me, "We believe in the right to provide a safe school environment for all students. A 2001-2002 survey indicated that 7.5 percent of students reported being harassed based upon sexual orientation..."
But Jim Kelly...who is suing the state over SB 777 says, "No one is arguing against anti-discrimination. There are current laws...what they have done here, however, is turn a disorder into a civil right....
He added: "...the guidelines are vaguely written. Who enforces whether or not a 16-year-old teenage boy is permitted into the girls locker room? The teachers? The teachers I have spoken with want no part of this. How do we know when someone has selected their gender? Do they give us written notice, verbal notice, same day notice?"...
Assemblyman Joel Anderson said, "Governor Schwarzenegger gave his word to all the state legislators that he would not sign this bill. Then one week later, when we were out of session and our guard was down, he signed it the exact same bill he vetoed last year..."

Yeah, too bad they didn't even have the courage to get behind Tom McClintock...they surrendered to the RINO from the start.

Ummmmm. I voted for McClintock...
“If the creepy guy down the street did to children what the State of California does, he’d arrested for molestation and pedophilia.”
To much of the country, California IS the creepy guy down the street!
unbelievable.
All I know is if they passed this back in 85 half us guys woulda been signing up to use the girls shower room.
No. It's switch-hitters.
If the words ‘mother’ and ‘father’ are disaapearing from birth certificates, why not just go all the way and make it illegal for the state to designate on the birth certificate which biological sex the infant is? Just let everybody grow up not knowing who they are.
The sad thing about this situation is that as California becomes more and more unreasonable, and more people leave the state, all that happens is that the same jerks that destroyed California spread the disease to the rest of the 49 states. I suggest we start a movement to simply divest California from the United States. Let Mexico have them back.
Perfect.
This is very sick, indeed. The thread is in need of levity:
Didn’t El Rushbo once say that the only way a normal hetero guy could be attracted to women and still be politically correct, was to call himself a “male lesbian”?
I was thinking that we should deport all of the illegals to Kalifornia anyway, and then cut it off from the rest of the country. Hell, I figure that 40% of them are already there anyway. Besides, my ex-wife lives there.
Obviously, you aren’t the “they” that we were talking about. Many of those “they” were right here at freerepublic saying that you had to get behind (R)nold immediately. Fortunately, there were enough you anti-”they”s that you all were able to tug (R)nold to the right...temporarily.
Do you know how many strong conservative FReepers happen to LIVE in California? Do you realize that FR’s founder lives here? It is the Golden State, best weather in the country, and there are mostly red counties here. But sadly the power now lies with the liberals in our “leadership,” ripping us off daily. We have the worst illegal alien problem in the country. We struggle but we do live here, so have some respect.
I have often asked myself why my home state, the most beautiful in the Union and possessing the best climate, has been taken over by illegal aliens and pervs. They have also taken over much of Florida. Southern California was a paradise when I was a child. Now it is proof that you really, really can’t go home again.
I sent my kids to a Baptist school nearly 30 years ago, at a time when I couldn't afford tuition. The Pastor and I worked out a deal and I became a bus driver in my time off from my regular job as part of the tuition. Where there's a will there's a way. Hang in there, it's well worth it.
Hey, I think I’m starting to like this gender switching thing. When it’s pouring rain outside and the gutters need to be unclogged, I can be a woman. Then when it’s time to do the dishes or the laundry, I can flip back to being a man again. Not sure what my wife will think about all this gender-bending but if she’s not tolerant of my right to assume whatever gender suits me at the time, I suppose I can appeal to the ACLU and they will take up my cause.
Most parents do have the means to either pay for good private/religious schools for their children or homeschool. The problem is that many parents aren’t willing to sacrifice or do extra work like you did. Too many parents think that they are paying taxes for public schools, so that should be good enough.
When parents decide that a couple of lattes a day from Starbucks and a new car every three years is more important than their children’s education, there’s a disaster looming.
I agree. I have friends who spend tons of money going out to movies, going out to eat, buying Starbucks, LEASING the latest cars, buying video games and video game machines for their children, etc...
If they put that money into their children’s future instead, they’d be able to afford the tuition, especially to religious schools who are not-for-profit.
In fact, I’d rather put money into private school than the college fund. You’re in school for 12 years, but in college for 4 (for a Bachelor’s). I’d rather our kids grow up to be decent people with a good educational background. Then they can tackle college either with our help or working for it themselves.
Bravo to you Graybeard58! Not many people in this day and age would have sacrificed and worked hard for their kids like you did.
