FLASH: RASMUSSEN Florida poll to be released: Romney 25, McCain 20, Giuliani 19... Developing...
I feel your pain up there. We bail out the airlines, housing, banks etc but the car is every American’s major mode of transportation. I don’t call for a bail out but it is time we recognized the auto industry is vital to our country. American cars need to return to our top priority.
Yes, that is one law which is not 100% fabulous - but I can empathize with Romney's reasoning and motivation behind it.
Just like I can empathize with mandated auto insurance laws.
After all, it would be ridiculous to argue that mandated auto insurance does not protect 'innocent' driver-taxpayers from freeloading indigents who would refuse to pay damages.
Likewise, mandated catastrophic health insurance (as distasteful as it is) protects the taxpayer against freeloading indigents who would refuse to pay large hospital or doctor bills.
Romney's massachusetts health plan is NOT government run health care, like Hillary's complicated plan in 1993.
Romney's plan simply had the state negotiate with PRIVATE health insurance companies to offer GROUP DISCOUNT RATES to small business or individuals for catastrophic health insurance.
One can opt out by signing a waiver, I believe.
The minimal requirement a business or individual has to pay is about $90-$150 a month, or there abouts.
FROM THE WASH POST: Gov. "Their choices would be expanded to include a range of new and inexpensive policies -- ranging from about $250 per month to nearly free -- from private insurers subsidized by the state. "
We are stupid if we nominate McCain as our nominee. He is not a conservative when it comes to other than social issues.
He voted against the Bush tax cuts several times. He was the architect of McCain-Feingold, which limits politcal speech. He was part of the gang of 14 that accepted the Dems filibustering of judicial nominees, the first time it has ever been done.
And McCain's stance on immigration would destroy this country. He wants to legalize the status of the 12 to 20 million illegals who would then sponsor more than 65 million more LEGAL immigrants thru chain migration, i.e., family reunification. McCain was one of the principal authors of the 2006 bill [S. 2611] that passed Senate with the Dems voting 39-4 FOR it and the Reps voting 32-23 AGAINST it with McCain being one of the 23. And the 2007 McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill would have expanded the number of illegals granted legal status from the 2006 bill.
McCain is not a man of honor. McCain call the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "dishonest and dishonorable." "Still, it was McCain who again came to Kerry's defense at an opportune time for Democrats. McCain, who challenged Bush for the GOP nomination in 2000, has become a central, if sometimes reluctant, figure in the campaign -- for both sides. Kerry courted him as a potential running mate after McCain defended Kerry's war record on national television. At rallies, Kerry frequently cites his relationship with McCain as evidence of bipartisanship."
"In an interview with the Associated Press, McCain called the ad "dishonest and dishonorable." Asked if the White House was behind it, McCain said: "I hope not, but I don't know. But I think the Bush campaign should specifically condemn the ad."
Step mommy dearest!
I guess it really is the end for Fred. Even the radio host down here was reading off candidates appearing on his radio show (Mitt was this morning)—and Fred was not mentioned at all. Even Ron Paul is on....
She looks like a ghoul from hell. And, those BRAWLS. Could you imagine?
Since they only this past week recieved their absentee ballots, Floridians could not have voted absentee prior to Giuliani’s dismal performances.
This Fredhead has decided to get behind Romney. Fred is not going to win and I had to look at the best remaining options. I do not believe in John McCain’s vision of this country, so I am now behind Romney.
She’s impressed with herself! Heh, maybe he’s been hiding her in the swamps of FL to give himself a chance! LOL
Wrong! Santorum, like Lindsey Graham, USED to be a conservative til he became a Bushbot. I believe he saved Arlen Spector’s re-election, remember? He’s no conservative! Plus, he’s been out of it too long and the base wouldn’t trust him as he sided with Bush on so many things. But MOST importantly, he WOULD NOT CARRY HIS OWN STATE! And also, he’s not from a Southern state which is what is needed for Romney to win. Otherwise, Gov. Pawlenty of Minnesota woudl be an excellent choice.
this is great news....about a week ago i decided my fav Thompson was pragmatically speaking NOT going to deliver...so i’ve jumped ship.
HOWEVER...I WILL VOTE FOR WHOEVER is the the REPUBLICAN nominee.
I REMEMBER how the CLINTONS carry out their retributions.
Just say NO to that phony used car salesman!
Yes, hear that the pre-nup was in HER favor. He really IS a schmuck. He lost his children, AND will lose the Presidency too, over that dirball. Plus he will lose his shirt, lol.
EXCEPT WHEN HE VOTED AGAINST THEM WHEN WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECESSION DURING THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION. NOW HE REVERSES HIMSELF AND SAYS HE'S FOR TAX CUTS AND THE ONLY REASON HE OPPOSED BUSH'S TAX CUTS WAS THAT HE FEARED THEY WOULD BALLOON THE DEFICIT. BUT HE DOESN'T SEEM TO THINK THE DEFICIT IS AN EXCUSE FOR VOTING AGAINST A TAX CUT NOW, EVEN THOUGH THE DEFICIT IS MUCH BIGGER NOW THAN IT WAS THEN. SO I DON'T THINK MCCAIN CAN REALLY CRITICIZE ROMNEY FOR FLIP-FLOPPING. HE'S FLIP-FLOPPING HIMSELF.
"He has always voted pro-life."
EXCEPT WHEN HE LED THE MCCAIN INSURRECTION. THIS IS THE ONE THING THAT A SENATOR DOES THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH ABORTION: CONFIRM JUDGES. YET HE'S DEMONSTRATED THAT HE WILL NOT STICK UP FOR CONSERVATIVE JUDGES WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH.
"He will win the war in Iraq."
I THINK BUSH WILL WIN THE WAR IN IRAQ. RON PAUL IS THE ONLY ONE WHO WOULD CUT AND RUN. MAYBE EVEN HILLARY WOULD STICK IT OUT, WHICH DEMONSTRATES THAT IT'S NOT EVEN A LIBERAL/CONSERVATIVE ISSUE.
BELIEVE ME, IF I THOUGHT MCCAIN WAS A CONSERVATIVE, I WOULD BE VOTING FOR HIM. THE PROBLEM IS NOT JUST THAT HE'S BEEN A LIBERAL ON THESE PARTICULAR ISSUES. HE'S BEEN CONSISTENTLY LIBERAL.
HE ALSO PUSHED THRU THE MCCAIN-FEINGOLD CFR BILL, WHICH MUZZLES CONSERVATIVE VOICES AND GIVES UNFAIR INFLUENCE TO THE LIBERAL MEDIA AND THE UNIONS, WHO ARE NOT RESTRICTED BY HIS BILL. THAT IS THE SINGLE MOST DANGEROUS LAW THAT HAS BEEN PASSED IN THE LAST 200 YEARS. IT'S LEADING TO A ONE PARTY SYSTEM.
HE IS LIBERAL ON AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.
I HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME SEEING WHAT HIS REDEEMING FACTORS ARE. POSSIBLY, YOU COULD ARGUE THAT HE HAS THE BEST CHANCE OF BEATING HILLARY, BUT THAT MIGHT BE A PYRRIC VICTORY, GIVEN THAT HIS RECORD IS REALLY NOT ALL THAT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM HERS. HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO PERSUADE ME TO VOTE FOR HIM IF HE'S THE NOMINEE, BUT HE'LL HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME DOING THAT, AND I SUSPECT THAT HE'LL BE MORE INTERESTED IN PERSUADING HILLARY'S SUPPORTERS TO VOTE FOR HIM THAN IN PERSUADING CONSERVATIVES TO VOTE FOR HIM.
Romney is a corporate Republican. If you think he will be a Tancredo on the border you’re nuts. He will sign a comprhensive bill like Mccain was pushing. The difference is McCain has gotten the message and is a man of his word who can win.
A vote for Romney is a vote for Hillary or Obama passing an immigration bill with a dem congress. Not only that but for every other major issue. Retreat/defeat in Iraq, socialist health care, judges, tax raises and on and on. A vote for Romney is a vote for a Dem and all liberal policies. Just know what you’re asking for.
Even the media has been questioning about why she is rarely with him, Duh, can you blame him? She starts brawls with HIM, and on airplanes, in front of everyone. She is trying to get his whole staff fired, and they have bee with him for years. SHE IS REALLY A NUTCASE. It was rumored that she got into it with Nancy Reagan... who did not want her in her box. Nancy sat next to... Ann Romney. Nancy is NOT someone you want o get into it with. Judith was “escorted out,” lol.
Thoughtful observations. The Republican party is wasting its time "courting the black vote". The LAST thing we need is "token blacks" like Steele running as VP, because the REAL effect this cause is to drive away _white_ Republican voters who are naturally predisposed not to "vote black". Call that racist if you wish, but I call it "reality".
Prediction: In the 2008 general election, the Republicans will garner about 8% of the black vote, if they get that much. Put a black in as VP, and they might get 10%. But little or nothing more.
If Hillary picks Obama to run as her VP candidate (and that is likely if he continues to be a major threat to her campaign), we might see fully 95-96% of blacks vote dim.
If Obama is the candidate - forget it.
Why do Republicans - particularly conservative Republicans, like those here on FR - still cling to the Pollyannish notion that blacks will "come to our side", if we woo them for votes? Those blacks who are smart enough to make the individual decisions to live and vote as conservatives don't need to be pandered towards. The rest don't matter.
The same goes for "the Hispanic vote". We ain't gonna get much of it. Why do we keep deluding ourselves that we might?

Another wikipedia dittum on Rep. Marsha Blackburn:
“On May 31, 2006, Rep. Blackburn was named the hottest woman in U.S. politics in an online poll sponsored by Politics1.com.”
What better reason could there be for selecting her? She beautiful, a sincere and excellent speaker and TOUGH AS NAILS!! Whatta coup!! Here, Hillary thinks she’d be getting all the press as the first serious woman candidate for President and Romney “one ups” her by selecting Rep. Blackburn, a true no-nonsense conservative!! What a brilliant move that would be for Romney!!
