Suzanne Pleshette Dies in Los Angeles By BOB THOMAS 3 hours ago LOS ANGELES (AP) Suzanne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died at age 70. Pleshette, whose career included roles in such films as Hitchcock's "The Birds" and in Broadway plays including "The Miracle Worker," died of respiratory failure Saturday evening at her Los Angeles home, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein, also a family friend. Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006. "The Bob Newhart Show, a hit throughout its six-year run, starred comedian Newhart as a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients. Pleshette provided the voice of reason. Four years after the show ended in 1978, Newhart went on to the equally successful "Newhart" series in which he was the proprietor of a New England inn populated by more eccentrics.

That’s right...someone else will eat the bananas of you don’t get to them. :) I like green bananas better than ripe anyway...UNLESS it is banana bread or something like that. :)

You tend to forget - that was a great ensemble cast.
Not being a celebrity follower - I'd have never guessed Tom Poston.
Notice that the only cancers the press seems willing to name are lung and breast?

If I knew she was married to Tom Poston I forgot it completely. Did he die recently too?

Very sad. One of the very few classy actresses.
And the line to the ticket booth gets shorter.

I didn’t think it had been long ago (but how I could have forgotten she was his wife is beyond me—ahh well, senior moments...)
Well, rest in peace to them both.

Hitchcock chose Tippi Hedren for the female lead in
The Birds after seeing her in a commercial for Sego, a diet drink. He definitely had a thing for blondes: Ingrid Bergman, Janet Leigh, Grace Kelly, Kim Novak, Doris Day....
Teresa Wright in Shadow of a Doubt was one of his rare brunette female leads.

70??? Wholly cow... Did I fall asleep under an oak tree and awaken 20 years later? She couldn’t be that old.

And how could I forget: Eva Marie Saint!

Same here. I’ll always remember her as the luscious and witty brunette from Newhart and the youngish school marm, Annie, in The Birds. God speed her soul to her reward.

Mine too, along with Annette Funicello, LOL - I was jealous of Annette - she was a couple of years older than I was. She already had boobs, and I didn't.
