Suzanne Pleshette Dies in Los Angeles By BOB THOMAS 3 hours ago LOS ANGELES (AP) Suzanne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died at age 70. Pleshette, whose career included roles in such films as Hitchcock's "The Birds" and in Broadway plays including "The Miracle Worker," died of respiratory failure Saturday evening at her Los Angeles home, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein, also a family friend. Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006. "The Bob Newhart Show, a hit throughout its six-year run, starred comedian Newhart as a Chicago psychiatrist surrounded by eccentric patients. Pleshette provided the voice of reason. Four years after the show ended in 1978, Newhart went on to the equally successful "Newhart" series in which he was the proprietor of a New England inn populated by more eccentrics.

She had the greatest of voices and the most beautiful, happy looking smile. She was so funny and cute in the Ugly Dachshund. Maybe we liked it so much because we were doxie owners and could relate to her “girls.” :)
Rest in Peace Ms. Pleshette your work on earth is over.
I always felt badly for her in this movie. She loved the male star only he was in love with Tippi Hedron.
Actually, you SHOULD buy green bananas and you SHOULD continue to plan vacations, projects, etc...I do but...I preface it always as my mother did: “God willing.” Other than that you should plan ahead and press on. We won’t go until we are called so why not enjoy it. do the things you love, go where you want to do and thank God every morning for the new dawn. I wish you and yours long life. :)
PS: I like your name. :)
“one of my first crushes as a youngster”
Mine too, along with Annette Funicello, Ann-Margaret and Jill St. John.
Not only that, but then she gets eaten by crows while saving the children. My kind of woman.
The interplay between the Pleshette and Hedron characters in that very first scene together was something else. Hitchcock was a genius.
I don't see any thin anorexics on that list. Just real women.
Hitchcock is unmatched. We were drawn to his movies. I always liked looking for him in the beginning too. Sometimes you’d see him walking in the crowd or coming through a door or something like that. He truly was a genius.
yes, that was awful for her. She was the good person and had the bad ending. Was sad.
Sorry that went to private reply...meant to just hit the post. :)
Her and Lee Merriweather from Barnaby Jones were my early crushes. RIP Suzanne
Gee—now I feel old.
I had always dreamed of a wife like Suzanne Pleshette portrayed in the movies...wholesome, helpful and easy on the eyes. The only addition I could make to your four would be Natale Wood...
RIP Ms. Pleshette.
Loved her in that show. Very sad to hear she has passed away, and at what seems to me a young age. I just watched something on A & E (I think) about Bob Newhart and it reminded me just how great that show was, and how good all of the characters were. So much better than the reality shows they ply us with these days.
Rest in Peace Suzanne, and my prayers for her family.

R.I.P., Suzanne.
Besides, someone else will eat the bananas if you don’t get to them!

Me, too. I thought Taylor was a dope; Hedron was, in my opinion, the least sexy of Hitchcock's blonde stars. He must have had a thing for her.
