Long Beach - Groups of gunmen attacked two separate parties during the night in the Los Angeles area, killing two teenagers and wounding at least nine other people, authorities said on Sunday.
There were no immediate arrests in either shooting, police said.
The first shooting happened late on Saturday in Long Beach, where several gang members apparently crashed a birthday party and started a fight, said police sergeant Dina Zapalski.
A 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl died of gunshot wounds, said Zapalski. Another 17-year-old boy suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Early on Sunday, four or five men turned up at a party in Compton and opened fire, said Los Angeles county sheriff's deputy Tony Moore.
Eight people were wounded in the Compton shooting, three of them critically, authorities said.
Moore said it was not known if that attack was gang-related.
I lived in San Diego in the 80’s. In the 90’s my SIL and I went back to CA because she’d never been there, and she wanted to drive along Highway 101.
So, we’re driving north from San Diego, and we get to Long Beach. I say, “This is where we turn around and stay alive.”
We need to pull out. This war is lost.
Some party we have become.
Each of these problems could be corrected. They just never will, because it has now become impossible to elect anyone from either party who actually gives a —— about any of this.
Some nation we have become. We ought to be ashamed.

Capping an emotional and polarizing trial, a Long Beach judge on Friday found nine black youths responsible for the beating of three white women during a Halloween melee in Bixby Knolls.
A 10th defendant, a 12-year-old girl, was acquitted and ordered released immediately from Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.
In a packed but hushed courtroom, interrupted only by occasional sobs, Long Beach Superior Court Judge Gibson Lee found the nine juveniles eight girls and a boy ages 13 to 18 guilty of assault with the intent to produce great bodily injury, a felony and a strike that will remain on the records of five minors who are 16 and older.
Many of the minors cried during the reading of the verdict. Some buried their faces
“We ought to be ashamed.”

Let's see: gang members shooting up a party, and they don't know if it was gang-related? Nothing beats good police work.
