I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President. I was thinking to myself, What? Rep. Duncan Hunter is Conservative right down the line. From his web site: Hunter' Ratings
National Rifle Association: A+
Americans for Better Immigration: A+
Eagle Forum: 100%
Christian Coalition: 100%
Family Research Council Action: 100%
Campaign for Working Families: 100%
Concerned Women for America: 100%
National Right to Life Committee: 100%
Federation for American Immigration Reform: 100%
National Federation of Independent Business: 100%
Gun Owners of America: A (Read GOA article here)
** GodVoters.org: A ** (the ONLY A they gave) (See their endorsement here)
American Conservative Union: 92%
Americans for Tax Reform: 88.5% (lifetime, most recent rating was 100%)
National Tax Limitation Committee: 88
National Taxpayers Union: B
ACLU: 7% (indicates very conservative)
NARAL: 0% (indicates a pro-life record)
Exactly how Conservative can you get? Ok, so what's with Limbaugh? Simple, found this On the Hill article that says:
"It is difficult to change Rep. Duncan Hunters mind. House leadership officials and the White House have found that out the hard way."
"When they wanted him to vote for a pending trade bill last year, Hunter (R-Calif.) refused again and again. And when the Bush administration tried to convince the powerful Armed Services Committee on its controversial port security plan, Hunter refused to budge."
"Twisting Hunters arm is impossible, his close friends say."
The article continues:
"And Hunter, whom many call a protectionist, was instrumental in scuttling a deal that would have given the operations at six major U.S. ports to Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the United Arab Emirates."
He was shocked that the administration approved the deal, said Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.), a senior member of Hunters committee and a close friend. Saxton worked with Hunter to introduce legislation blocking the deal and revising the foreign-investment process to ensure national security.
On the Dubai issue, he got all fired up, a congressional source said. Hunter gathered information to prove that Dubai has not been trustworthy despite repeated administration assertions that the UAE is a vital ally in the war on terrorism."
"It is not often that a guest on a TV news program has the boldness to put the interviewers political-activism past in the open, but Hunter wasnt one to shy away. He made sure to point out, three times, that George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABCs This Week, had worked for President Clinton, who supported the Dubai Ports deal."
I dont think President Clinton, your old boss, knows the facts of the transshipment that take place through Dubai sending nuclear components to all parts of the world, Hunter told Stephanopoulos, in one of the references to Clinton."
I remember Rush getting particularly getting bent out of shape on the issue:
Rush probably felt he could personally change every American's mind on the issue from behind the EIB Golden Microphone, but alas, the deal fell through. Is El Rushbo taking out his frustration on the actual 'Thoroughbred Conservative' Republican Candidate for POTUS in 2008?
Hey Rush, why don't you give your ego a break bud?
He probably supports Mitt, as focus is the economy as if that matters when the enemy takes over.
Rush and Rudy have lots in common. In a lot of ways, Rush is sort of a super-sized (notice I didn't say fat, Rush fans) version of Rudy. Compare their marital batting averages.
“(BTW, a lot of Pubbies who could see lining their own pockets from the Dubai free port initiative are still angry at Hunter, omne of the rasons this “man of the people” is being ignored by the GOP admin.)”
Excellent point, Candor7.
Thank you.
How so? You think our trade with China is advantageous to us and on the up and up?
Its not a media "conspiracy". Its a wholesale failure of our political culture.
And the electorate , especially conservatives, will have little or nothing to do with it.
Thats why we have no Republican front runner, and two ghastly Democrats completely seperated from "Reality."
No one has captured the affection of American voters across the country. And the one man who can, has been studiously ignored as being culturally unacceptable, persona non grata, nod, nod, wink, wink.
30% of the Republican electorate will be writing in their choices.
Thats not a conspiracy, its a failure of the electoral process, led by the MSM and the RINOs who now run the Republican party. They stoop to conquer, and are about to fall flat on their faces.
Tom DeLay is chiming in. I hope he does more and more.
You: No dopers should be elected to anything.>>>>
I agree. But who said he would get elected?
I still say: "Rush, run for office! Or get behind a conservative."
Kind of reminds me of a person named Bill Clinton. I think he got elected as President, if memory serves me right.

As I recall, Rush was all for the Dubai thingy, although I could not figure out why......
I’m glad Duncan stood fast for America...
So you assume he is a one issue candidate, which is not true.
Dubai? Dubai? Dubai?
hmmm, where have I heard that word? Ah yes, they send nuclear triggers to our enemies, launder diamonds and tanzanite for Al Qaeda and Iran. Human trafficking and child slaves and what else, darn, there is something....
I know! They are Rudy Globaliani’s client!

The Dubai office of Bracewell & Giuliani is an integral part of the firms well-established global energy and finance practices. At the hub of Bracewells Middle East practice, our Dubai-based and international attorneys represent established and entrepreneurial U.S. domestic and foreign clients in the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf Cooperation Council States of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. We also represent clients in nearby jurisdictions outside the Gulf States and throughout the region.
Bracewell has a strong foothold in both the state of Dubai and the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). For example, one of our senior partners is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, while another partner is a 40-year resident of the region, a former U.S. diplomat in the Middle East and Chairman Emeritus of the American Business Council of the Gulf Countries.
Attorneys in the Dubai office provide clients with counsel in financing transactions, asset purchases and sales, equity transactions, the establishment of joint ventures and other business combinations, and issues related to labor, corporate governance and issuing securities on the Dubai International Financial Exchange (DIFX). The firms long history with the DIFC and our familiarity with local laws and key regulatory officials enable us to help clients address the day-to-day requirements of and exploit strategic opportunities found in doing business in the Middle East.
June 25, 2007
DUBAI (June 25, 2007) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced the opening of its office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates today. The Dubai office will be led by partner David M. Stockwell, a 25-year resident and legal practitioner and a former senior United States diplomat in residence there.
The Dubai office will advise clients on doing business in Dubai and in the other member-states of the United Arab Emirates, including operations in the new Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and on local labor law, commercial and corporate law, arbitration, licensing, litigation, energy and environmental matters in the Arabian Gulf region. Mr. Stockwell serves as a current member of the Financial Markets Tribunal of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, which hears appeals of regulatory/administrative rulings of the Authority, the regulator of activities within the DIFC.
A member of the Houston and International Bar Associations, Mr. Stockwell was born in Saudi Arabia and has lived in the Middle East for more than forty-five years. Mr. Stockwells diplomatic career with the United States State Department also includes having served as Commercial Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait and as the Country Officer for Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in Washington, D.C. He is a past president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Dubai and Chairman Emeritus of the American Business Council of the Gulf Countries, the umbrella business grouping of all American Chambers of Commerce in the Arabian Gulf. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Cultural Foundation which was established by the Ruler of Dubai to own and operate the American School of Dubai.
Dubai is an important emerging market for many companies, but the business environment is unknown to most organizations looking to expand into the market, said Mr. Stockwell. Having lived and practiced in the region, I understand the environment. I know how to work with the government and the business community to provide guidance and leadership to clients.
Multinational banking and finance companies are starting to shift important operations to Dubai, the Dubai International Financial Centre and the entire Arabian Gulf region.
With Bracewells focused expertise in energy, corporate law, finance, international law and tax planning, serving that region from an office in Dubai makes perfect sense and provides considerable synergy, said Patrick Oxford, managing partner of Bracewell & Giuliani. Our firms core competencies in energy, finance and international tax position us to add value for our clients operating in the Middle East just as we have done for them in the North Caspian, North Sea and Gulf Coast, continued Mr. Oxford.
People hear Rush's show blairing from my truck and ask me, "You listen to Rush?" I tell them, "Yeah, Rush is a little too liberal for me, but I like him anyway!"
I love the responses I get when I say that!
You mean sort of like Huckabee?
In a free market, it’s always advantageous for both sides to make a transaction or they wouldn’t make it over and over again. Nobody is putting a gun to their heads and forcing them to make the transaction.
I’ll also remind you that we don’t have a free trade agreement with China.
I'm a Hunter supporter and hadn't known he'd helped scuttle the Dubai ports deal. I thought he was good, but this only proves how much better he is than I knew.
“Ill also remind you that we dont have a free trade agreement with China.”
I think that’s what Hunter had in mind although, they do have MFN status. I don’t believe he’s an isolationist.
Rush is a political commentator, but he is also running a business. He is smart to stay out of primary fights in the Republican party, and always has EXCEPT when the primary has someone who in no way can be conservative. Then, he doesn't hurt himself to criticize a Republican, because his audience is conservatives.
That is what he is doing, he is pointing out negatives on Huckster and McCain while remaining silent on everyone else. He has gotten frustrated enough lately that he has started to drop not so subtle hints for Thompson, and he is also saying nice things about Romney. I think he's concerned tht Thompson may not make it, and he is willing to reluctantly accept Romney (which is the situation with Ann Coulter, by the way).
In any event, Rush's refusal to get involved in a primary campaign is completely understandable. He wants to discuss the issues and frame the debate, which in turn will help candidates who agree with him, while not overtly supporting a particular candidate and alienating his audience. I can't argue with his decision. See what direction Hewitt's audience numbers are going, and let me know what you find out.
with 78% of the vote in Nevada Hunter has 583 votes TOTAL.
He only scores more than Kucinich.
Hunter is electorally insignificant. Even his endorsement is irrelevant now.
Wow!
How are the Chinese doing, running OUR canal for us??
You would be right in an ordinary primary, but this is an unusual primary, where the GOP, and the MSM have teamed up to shape the exposure of candidates.
That makes the priimary process a dog and pony show.
The primary results are skewed and we may eventually get a front rumnner statistically, but that front runner will not have the best chance of capturing America. They will be a laughing stock.
So the American people will measure their votes in the old way in the election itself in November.
30% of the Republican electorate will write in their choice.
AND the GOP is betting that will not happen. They are dead wrong.
Excellent comments.
Thank you for you work and sharing it with us.
