COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) Three hours into voting, the South Carolina State Election Commission reports that turnout has been low "across the board" for today's Republican primary here.
"All the reports I've received from various counties is that turnout has been light," said commission spokesman Chris Whitmire.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. throughout the state, where cold, rainy weather may be a factor in slowing turnout.
But Whitmire said that since state elections are usually held on a Tuesday, it's difficult to discern any pattern.

Why?
That’s ridiculous. Romney brings money and votes, and pull in several states.
Hunter brings NOTHING.
Put Hunter in a post where he can do the job against illegal immigration.
Rain?
In my neck of the woods if the car battery isn't frozen and the tank heater is working I'm on my way to vote. /snicker
Fred is getting my vote in an hour,, it may not be crawling across glass but it’s nasty out there
I don't have a drought problem around my area anymore, lol.
Mitt gives the advantage of money for the campaign.
Conservative conviction isn't worthy of ridicule.
If it's money and votes alone that are the focus, then lets push for a Bloomberg/Buffet ticket.
No kidding. How many vote-before-work-people are going to get up at 7 am on a Saturday to vote?
Shouldn't we push for Saturday voting in our own States?
Tuesday voting favors the unemployed ...... who tend to be Democrats.
You said “REALISTIC”. There is nothing realistic about Hunter as VP.
The way I see it, we prayed to the Lord and the Lord answers prayers. Whatever happens, it is the Lord's will. We have to give it to the Lord when we pray, and trust he will do what's best with it.
That said, I think dreary weather would be favorable for those who are more passionate to vote - I think it bodes well for Thompson!
VP selection is a POTUS in running decision based upon his/her mindset as to who would serve their administration best in that position.
Fred Thompson IMO would never chose Mitt Romney as second in command.
It would be a personal decision not a financial decision.
Glad you all are getting wet down there!!
Not if it’s done for political and strategic reasons.
If it’s a choice between winning with Romney or losing, I would hope he would take Romney.
You really think Reagan CHOSE GWH Bush?
No.
Wasn't it Bledwin Rostenmeyer who chose GHWB?
Unfortunately, Huckabee’s supporters are fanatics.
I could certainly support that!
Irrelevent when it comes to a POTUS in running.
What was Dick Cheney's position in the primaries in the running for POTUS in '00?
2nd or 3rd?
Low turout...... I guess it depends upon the location, reporter, etc. From another article with Carl Cameron:

Turnout is steady in the low country and lighter in the upstate. South Carolina Republican Party officials expect half a million votes will be cast provided the weather isnt too lousy in the upstate.
CBS just said Mitt projected to win the NV caucus.
