COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) Three hours into voting, the South Carolina State Election Commission reports that turnout has been low "across the board" for today's Republican primary here.
"All the reports I've received from various counties is that turnout has been light," said commission spokesman Chris Whitmire.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. throughout the state, where cold, rainy weather may be a factor in slowing turnout.
But Whitmire said that since state elections are usually held on a Tuesday, it's difficult to discern any pattern.

Who does low turnout help in SC?
This article came at at 10:00 AM. It’s Saturday. People can take their time when they’re on a day off. Im looking forward to the results at the end of the day.
SC has a chance to take the party back from the RINOs today and vote for Fred. If SC lets us down, the RINOs have won and the GOP as we know is history.
What, 3 hours into it and the winner hasn’t been declared yet?
Who does low turnout help in SC?
Not me... arrrrrggggh!
No kidding. How many vote-before-work-people are going to get up at 7 am on a Saturday to vote?
“People can take their time when theyre on a day off”
Yes, on a Tuesday I’d vote before going to work.
On a Saturday I’d wait until the afternoon.
Low Turnout helps Fred. In all the internals of the Rasmussen polls, he had the highest “definently voting for him” numbers.
I would think high turnout would be equally favorable to Huckabee and McCain.
And low turnout favors 5’ 2” Dennis Kucinich? No?
The rain isn’t going to stop today either. Get out there Fred supporters!
Looks like Divine Intervention to me!
X ZACKLY! :>)
Probably Mc Cain.
Don't you love how Divine Intervention comes in the form of Anti-Global warming? ;)
“Who does low turnout help in SC?”
I’d guess pretty much everyone but McCain.
