Ancient Islamic Texts Resurface (Impugning The Legitimacy of the Koran,Islam)
The Third Eye Concept ^ | January 14, 2008 | Staff

Posted on 01/19/2008 2:38:36 AM PST by america4vr

Islam watchers blogged all weekend about news that a secret archive of ancient Islamic texts had surfaced after 60 years of suppression. Andrew Higgins' Wall Street Journal report that the photographic record of Koranic manuscripts, supposedly destroyed during World War II but occulted by a scholar of alleged Nazi sympathies, reads like a conflation of the Da Vinci Code with Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail.

The Da Vinci Code offered a silly fantasy in which Opus Dei, homicidal monks and twisted billionaires chased after proof that Christianity is a hoax. But the story of the photographic archive of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, now ensconced in a Berlin vault, is a case of life imitating truly dreadful art. It even has Nazis. "I hate those guys!" as Indiana Jones said.

No one is going to produce proof that Jesus Christ did not rise from the grave three days after the Crucifixion, of course. Humankind will choose to believe or not that God revealed Himself in this fashion. But Islam stands at risk of a Da Vinci Code effect, for in Islam, God's self-revelation took the form not of the Exodus, nor the revelation at Mount Sinai, nor the Resurrection, but rather a book, namely the Koran. The Encyclopaedia of Islam (1982) observes, "The closest analogue in Christian belief to the role of the Koran in Muslim belief is not the Bible, but Christ." The Koran alone is the revelatory event in Islam.

What if scholars can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Koran was not dictated by the Archangel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammad during the 7th century, but rather was redacted by later writers drawing on a variety of extant Christian and Jewish sources?

"There were many Gospels, too, in the early centuries of the Church. Only Church establishment approved Gospels made it into the Bible."

Correct.

And that is because the Bible is the inspired word of God. God did not whisper each word of the Bible into the ears of the people who wrote the Bible. Rather, the Bible is a collection of works that were written under the inspiration of God's Holy Spirit. How do we know this? Because a number of people have discerned God's Spirit within the writings that are now the Bible. Those same people did not discern God's Spirit in the books that were left out of the Bible.

Muslims, on the other hand, believe that the Koran is the literal word of God. They believe that the Arcangel Gabrielt dictate word for word every word in the Koran, and that the words in the Koran are Allah's very words. They believe, moreover, that Gabriel spoke to Mohammed in Arabic, and that therefore the only true Koran is written in Arabic.

Were it to be discovered that the text of the Koran preceded the life of Mohammed, it would undermine a baci belief of Islam.

Nothing. You’re an infidel. The only way you can get anything is to go to the store and buy it.

I’ve read about some Muslims in some remote corner of Afghanistan, or one of the nearby countries, who claim to be descendants of Jesus. They don’t believe that he died on the cross....and didn’t get the idea from the DaVinci code guy.

Historically, religions have always looked upon the sex act as being of the Devil, as vile, unholy, unclean, as a necessary evil to be engaged in for the sake of procreation only.

islam is the religion that was made up out of whole cloth and desert madness. Instead of the bright-eyed looking for fulfillment in a belief system, islam attracts the marginally stable and specifically the emotionally deranged.

God did not whisper each word of the Bible into the ears of the people who wrote the Bible.

If God did not give us every word in the scriptures, then how is all scripture given by inspiration of God (versus subjective opinion)? (2Ti 3:16)

Your argument proves nothing: you argue that those that were inspired were accepted; those that were not accepted were not inspired. This circular argument proves nothing.

Notice how Jesus the Christ considered every word (not just the overall meaning) essential:

Luke 4:2
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Here you'll see that Christ went so far as to make a spiritual argument based on the single tense of a single word!

Mark 12:24
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. 26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I [am] the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

(Me thinks that it is you who err.)

Some interesting links from http://www.qantara.de

According to Lüling, the Reformation called for in Islam is not only necessary, it is also not possible without a critical look at the holy text in the manner that he, and others, have undertaken. (from 2004)

If you’re under threat for that reason, are many Muslims so intolerant?

Ibn Warraq: Of course there are moderate, tolerant Muslims as well. The most tolerant are the less educated people, who don’t know exactly what it says in the Qur’an because they find it too difficult to read Arabic. Educated Muslims or those who can at least read the Qur’an are more intolerant. They often take it literally.

17NOV2015:

Last night’s EastEnders featured the scene below, where a Muslim character called Tamwar quotes the Qur’an, in Arabic and English, to illustrate what Islam is to him. It’s very well done, I think, and it’s a happy coincidence that this scene, filmed months ago, happened to go out when many British viewers urgently needed to hear such a message.

It names some of the people we should strive to treat well: parents and relatives, orphans, neighbours near and far, companions and travellers. There, Tamwar’s quotation ends. But there’s actually one more category in the verse itself: “those your right hands possess”. Slaves.
