When he drops out, most here will not be phased by it... they will still want to lament the impossible dream...

But when he ENDORSES McCAIN !!

Then the dream is revealed to be the nightmare we dodged !!

That was the way it should have gone, and Romney did his part in Michigan and will in Nevada, but Thompson has dropped the ball in South Carolina, unfortunately.

There are two points here that you don’t get:

First, I believe his wife wants him to be president more than he does. Or at the very least, demonstrates more enthusiasm for it.

Second, if the constitution is a ‘dead document’ then it can never be amended. Since it has been amended 27 times, it can be changed, and therefore isn’t truly dead. The point behind amending the constitution is to eliminate the ever changing interpretation that is being implemented by activist judges. (ooooh, conservatism)

Watch tonight’s interview on Hannity and Colmes, and you’ll hear the same thing.

Well the All Stars this week have been somewhat lachrymose at the though Fred could actually win. It’s been fun to see jackass Fred Barnes admit that Thompson may be the only one to unite the party.

What Fred needs most is legitimacy and attention. The AntiFreds keep saying the same old stuff here on FR, dismissing his mannerisms as lazy or slow.

I, for one, am inspired when I listen to him. The more I hear, the more I like. The reporters and bloggers have been saying the same things about his campaign stops.

I don’t think Fred will knock McCain out in SC...I hope so, but I think a strong charge for Fred by SC Republicans may give Fred the boost he needs to be taken seriously.

His website has a bunch of videos of SC voters who have “Flipped for Fred.” They seem to be saying the same thing...once they hear him in his comfort zone, they like him and want to vote for him.

Fred needs time. I hope he gets it tomorrow.

Nice try however.

I haven’t been watching the panel on Special Report...sick of them.

So, they’re backtracking a little? You can tell by some of the AntiFred posts on FR they are getting nervous as well.

It’s hard to believe they can be so supportive of Huckabee or Romney that want Fred to fail. Where have all the real conservatives gone?

Oh they’ve backtracked big time. Have they been gushing about Thompson? No. But they certainly are eating crow.

McCain in the lead?????? Oh heaven help us.

If our government is living and breathing by political dictate, our Constitution which is based upon God will be shown to be lacking the help of Heaven.

and yet you bothered posting.

I know that in reality you actually read farther, but would rather say you stopped.

Nice try however.

JMO, but Fred was drafted into running by many people, mostly from the "grass roots". Therefore I believe that should he not be able to sustain a viable candidacy he will just fold his tent and go back to the great private life he has been enjoying. He will endorse no one and he will campaign for no one.

Perhaps, this is just hopeful thinking on my part, but I believe Fred Thompson is a class guy with only one thought, the future of this Republic. I don't think his view of our future squares with any of the other candidates of either party.

I also still believe that Fred will not "fold his tent" any time soon, regardless of SC outcome.

I as some others believe he will remain and be a player in the brokering that will happen when no clear choice is evident after Super Tuesday. We have a few weeks to find out!

I believe the growing grassroots AND additional endorsements this week will keep him going.

In 2000, South Carolina Republicans came to the rescue for the country... Tomorrow is another challenge and another opportunity! Do the RIGHT THING, South Carolina GOP!

I can’t believe that 58% of South Carolina Republicans are going to vote for those liberal frauds, McCain and Huckabee. I always thought that Republicans were more intelligent than that.

I said from the beginning that Thompson was running for VP. So are some of the others. But I think it’s beginning to sink in that running for VP is not a whole lot easier than running for President.

I would say that it’s going to be McCain and Romney, not necessarily in that order.

I don’t think Fred would have wasted the time running if he were only intent on VP.

There’s a lot of bad blood between McCain and Mitt, so I’m not sure about that. There’d have to be some serious “burying the hatchet” before I’d believe that.

If I had to guess, it would either be Mitt/? or McCain/Huckabee. (or reverse order)

(Now watch the VP be someone else entirely)

Mitt still has a substantial lead in the delegate count and a whole lot more money, so February 5 will likely be the determining factor.

But if Fred does not win tomorrow, it won’t be the fault of a few people on FR who dismissed him. It will be because his efforts in South Carolina were not sufficient to get the common republican to vote for him.

In the end, a candidate is measured by the number of votes he recieves. We can send him money, we can say nice things about him. Some people are making calls tonight for his campaign, or hitting the streets.

I collected signatures for him in Virginia in December.

But in the end, we can’t get him the votes. That’s his job.
