So until Super Tuesday (less than three weeks away now) we really won't have much of a picture. I expect the field to narrow considerably after Super Tuesday but it may be some time after that, possibly even up to the convention, before we have a declared nominee.

I'm not counting anybody out until after Super Tuesday.

In 1988, Al Gore won Super Tuesday and moved from last to third. That time, the momentum was already behind Dukakis. No one has the Big Mo yet.

If Romney wins the nomination, he’ll lose the election.

Same could be said about all the GOP candidates. I'm not entirely convinced Thompson could win but he would definitely give the Dems a run for their money.

“Whoever wins FL will go to the front of the line as it is a Winner Take All fairly big state.”

I thought that FL was NOT a winner take all state? I thought they were split up by congressional districts?

Maybe. If Romney picks up at least 6 from NV and/or SC, he will have 58. If Guiliani gets FL, so would he. But, I don't think Rudy's strategery is working out like he planned....

He won’t have to buy anything when he wins the majority....it isn’t stalinist russia or some third world country where money gets you power and vice-versa. Just because the system isn’t working the way you want it to doesn’t mean it is broken. Mitt has spent alot of money to essentially get his name out there or all we would hear about is the McLame\Guiliani ticket.

I don’t think Mitt will run out of money, he may get to a point where he sees it going down the drain.

If the penalty is not applied, and all delegates are seated, FL is WTA per district. If the penalty is applied, the FL GOP chair and the Governor will choose delegates based on a statewide WTA basis. At least, that is the info I've been able to track down in news reports.

I doubt seriously that a single guy will come up with 1100-odd votes to win on the first ballot. In fact....this is a 20-ballot situation and we might be surprised who gets the nod at the end. There’s nothing in the book after the first ballot to say that any of the current group of nominees has to be the guy standing at the end. We could have a total outsider step up...to be a neutral choice...like Jeb Bush (although I can’t see him running).

Giuliani is polling a strong second in Florida. If he finishes second or higher, he will be back in it come Super Tuesday.

The following gives an explaination of the Florida process. I'm not sure of the accuracy.....

Click

Alternative Soft Total Plan. This plan assumes the delegation is not sanctioned.

Tuesday 29 January 2008: All 114 of Florida's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Florida Presidential Primary.

  • 75 district delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the 8 congressional districts: each congressional district is assigned 3 National Convention delegates and the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in that district will receive all of that district's National Convention delegates.
  • 36 at-large delegates (10 base at-large delegates plus 26 bonus delegates) are to be allocated to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide.
  • 3 party leaders, the National Committeeman, the National Committeewoman, and the chairman of the Florida's Republican Party, will attend the convention, by virtue of their position, bound to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide.

Soft/Hard Total Plan. This plan assumes the delegation is sanctioned.

Tuesday 29 January 2008: All 57 of Florida's delegates to the Republican National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders in today's Florida Presidential Primary.

  • All 57 delegates are to be allocated to the presidential contender receiving the greatest number of votes in the primary statewide.

Delegates at the Congressional District level will be chosen between 6 February 2008 and 30 April 2008 at the delegate selection caucuses. At-Large delegates will be chosen between 6 February 2008 and 31 May 2008 at an Republican Party of Florida Executive Board meeting.

Romney shaking hands with his Senate opponent. gracious, even with the enemy.

McCain is the one who is *co-author* with Kennedy on the worst bill in the last 10 years, say no to Proamnesty-antiBushtaxcuts-proCO2caps-CFR-RINO John McCain:

If I had to list the candidates in order of most conservative to least conservative, the order would be:

Hunter
Thompson
Romney
McCain
Giuliani
Huckabee

Realistically, Hunter has no chance. Knock the last three guys off the list, and that leaves Thompson and Romney...which would make for a perfect ticket in November.
