A former congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday as part of a terrorist fundraising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.

“It’s not clear whether Siljander ever engaged in the lobbying push, said John Wood, U.S. attorney in Kansas City. Nevertheless, IARA paid Siljander with money that was part of U.S. government funding awarded to the charity years earlier for relief work it promised to perform in Africa, the indictment says.
In interviews with the FBI in December 2005 and April 2007, Siljander denied doing any lobbying for IARA. The money, he told investigators, was merely a donation from IARA to help him write a book about Islam and Christianity, the indictment says.”
The knee jerks are in full force on this thread as usual. I’ll hold my fire awaiting more facts and a trial.
Good thing CNN is pointing this out...(sigh)
Does it have to be immediate?
We should make him watch re-runs of Rosie on the view for a few years to get even before we waterboard him in acid...
Several of the responses on this thread from people who know Siljander better than I do have cast doubt on this accusation. So maybe we should hold our fire until we learn more.
Possibly he was a useful idiot, who helped a terrorist organization without knowing it. Possibly he was not involved at all.
The MSM naturally jumps on any Republican who is suspected of anything.
And it has been an increasingly obvious pattern that the FBI loves to go after Republicans, while letting Democrats get away with treason and corruption of all kinds, and dragging their feet or ignoring it. The administration has zero control over the FBI, which still appears to be working for the left, as it did under the clintons.
So, maybe he’s guilty. But let’s wait and see some more evidence, first, before jumping on him.
Personally, I'd drag it out for awhile.
Let’s see, it was exporting potato chips, and importing matches. Or was it diapers?
Try him and fry him.
In the 80’s he was one of the most conservative congressman there was. Social and fiscal.
Innocent till proven guilty. But it looks like he’s in pretty hot water.

Ironically, LRD was among the first groups to win U.S. Agency for International Development approval to receive and dole out U.S. tax dollars to the Iraqi people. A press release thanked Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) for getting the USAID seal of approval. My sources fear that some of that USAID money - which cannot all be traced - may have gone to fund insurgents.
The disturbing thing is that for years the feds - including top Homeland Security official Daniel Sutherland, Detroit-area U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy III and his predecessor Jeffrey Collins - have feted this charity, all while it may have been funding Islamic terrorists and encouraging their hatred there and here. ----------Charities For Terror (Debbie Schlussel Looks At Detroit Area Islamofascist Front Alert) New York Post ^ | 09/19/06 | Debbie Schlussel
Thye trial could be a big show and backfire the anti-american dems.
MSM and their puppets are used to be self owned.
Just help them dig their grave...
Siljander; the name looks Albanian, though IFRC, this fellow is, or claims to be Christian.
sounds like his goose is cooked
but he needs a fair trial. maybe it was one of those horrible mistakes? although it is fairly bizarre that he was campaigning for islam and stuff.
“But it looks like hes in pretty hot water.”
The evidence I’ve heard so far doesn’t sound convincing. This may be another botched Justice prosecution.
I would be surprised if he is found guilty.
“is fairly bizarre that he was campaigning for islam and stuff.”
Not really. In the arena of money/lobbying, money talks, religion walks.
What’s with the justice dept. submitting an anti-gun brief? If they can’t actively support the 2nd amendment, can’t they just keep their mouths shut? It is really amazing.
I like Bush, and we may enjoy scalito and roberts for decades, but there is too much out of control stuff going on in his admin...
