Plenty of other authors and counterterrorism experts are being sued by Islamists to shut them up.
Award-winning author Mark Steyn has been summoned to appear before two Canadian Human Rights Commissions on vague allegations of "subject[ing] Canadian Muslims to hatred and contempt" and being "flagrantly Islamophobic" after Maclean's magazine published an excerpt from his book, America Alone.
The public inquisition of Steyn has triggered outrage among Canadians and Americans who value free speech, but it should not come as a surprise. Steyn's predicament is just the latest salvo in a campaign of legal actions designed to punish and silence the voices of anyone who speaks out against Islamism, Islamic terrorism, or its sources of financing.
The Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC), which initiated the complaint against Steyn, has previously tried unsuccessfully to sue publications it disagrees with, including Canada's National Post. The not-for-profit organization's president, Mohamed Elmasry, once labeled every adult Jew in Israel a legitimate target for terrorists and is in the habit of accusing his opponents of anti-Islamism -- a charge that is now apparently an actionable claim in Canada. In 2006, after Elmasry publicly accused a spokesman for the Muslim Canadian Congress of being anti-Islamic, the spokesman reportedly resigned amidst fears for his personal safety.
The Islamist movement has two wings -- one violent and one lawful -- which operate apart but often reinforce each other. While the violent arm attempts to silence speech by burning cars when cartoons of Mohammed are published, the lawful arm is maneuvering within Western legal systems.

Thank you for the ping.

You find nothing wrong in likening the Mormons to the Muslims?
Bigotry is alive and well
“The way to combat this is to use the same method against Muslims as was used against polygamous Mormons: that their religion is unconstitutional”
Was the belief in polygamy declared unconstitutional? In the USA? I doubt it. Probably, laws were passed making polygamy illegal.
Our Constitution forbids the US to outlaw a religion. Now I guess European countries (or Canada) can make laws to forbid a religion, or give it special privileges, because they believe in group rights, also known as muticulturalism, or mob rule. Anyway when a European, or a Canadian (or maybe a Californian) utters the words “democracy” or “rights” he doesn’t mean the same thing that we in the USA do.
The U.S. is about individual rights. So instead of outlawing religious “beliefs in murder” we just outlaw the murder. Now, we don’t necessarily have to wait for some teenage girl to be shot by her father or brother. Conspiracy to commit the murder is also a crime against the individual.
We should vigorously prosecute honor killings, apostate killings, and dhimmi killings, or any other form human slaughter with religion NOT being a mitigating factor. In other words being a muslim cannot be a justification for doing these things just as being, say, a Jehova’s witness cannot excuse a parent from denying his child a blood transfusion.
See the following link for a better explanation of what I’m talking about.

The important point is that Islam is actually a political system, with a legal code that conflicts with ours and which it wishes to impose on us. The same was true of Mormonism, but fortunately that was nipped in the bud by the aggressive response of the US when Mormons tried to take over parts of the territory and impose their law.
Islam should be, IMHO, subject to the same restrictions as Communism: that is, it is a system aimed at the overthrow of our government and Constitution, and it should be identified as such and treated as such.
There are laws. That's the problem.
It is a simple fact that we Americans trust government less than just about anyone else on Earth. Our Constitution restricts government in ways that few others do. the French proclaim, "Liberté, Egalité! Fraternité!" Canadians want "peace, order ad good government." Americans want "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." We kneel to different trinities. That's democratic.
There is always a tricky balance between democracy and liberty. Every country will reach its own balance between those forces, and even our closest allies -- and Canada certainly makes the short list -- won't use the same equation we do.
The Muslims are trying to do the exact same thing here in the U.S. through the legal system, i.e. link hate crime legislation to criticism of Islam. Fortunately, the U.S. has a Bill of Rights, whereas the Canadians don’t.
“Syed Soharwardy, president of Islamic Supreme Council of Canada said ...”
*this is the same guy that Canadian Ezra Levant is defending himself against at this very moment.
here is a copy of the “complaint”

The time has come to rid ourselves of the PC leftists who occupy these illegal kangaroo courts. Notice how all these Marxist tribunals are located in leftist strongholds where these totalitarians are pampered and encouraged by the brainwashed sheep.
So the solution is to move these Marxist tribunals to areas hostile to leftism where members of the court will be subjected to community ostracism - can’t buy food, gas, clothing. No service at any business. No membership at clubs and golf courses.
Where’s the outrage expressed by Susan Sarandon et al over the “chilling effect” this will have on free speech?
*crickets*
This is THE issue of our day.
Freedom of Speech is the foundation of our liberty. Take this stuff seriously before we turn into another Europe.
Right now, we have about 40% of our OWN CITIZENS that side with the enemies of America - because they share the common goal of deconstructing the American traditional culture.
These “liberals” are what they are because they can’t think long term, and therefore cannot see the danger of siding with such a dangerous “ally”.
All that needs to happen is for our courts to tell them to f*** off.
