Racial tensions roil Democratic race
Politico ^ | Jan 11, 2008 | Ben Smith

A series of comments from Senator Hillary Clinton, her husband, and her supporters are spurring a racial backlash and adding a divisive edge to the presidential primary as the candidates head south to heavily African-American South Carolina.

The comments, which ranged from the New York Senator appearing to diminish the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement – an aide later said she misspoke – to Bill Clinton dismissing Sen. Barack Obama’s image in the media as a “fairy tale” –generated outrage on black radio, black blogs, and cable television. And now they've drawn the attention of prominent African-American politicians.

“A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements,” said a Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether or not she owed anyone an apology.

“There’s a groundswell of reaction to these comments – and not just these latest comments but really a pattern, or a series of comments that we’ve heard for several months,” she said. “Folks are beginning to wonder: Is this really an isolated situation or is there something bigger behind all of this?”

Clinton supporters responded to that suggestion with their own outrage.

“To say that there is a pattern of racist comments coming out of the Hillary campaign is ridiculous,” said Ohio Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. “All of the world knows the commitment of President Clinton and Senator Clinton to civil rights issues – and not only the commitment in terms of words but in terms of deeds.”

Obama should graciously succumb to Hillary and take the VP offer.

Richardson will get the VP. He has a history of keeping his mouth shut in the Clinton cabinet, and would lock in the valuable Hispanic vote as well as make history. (and he doesnt "look" all that Hispanic).

Obama is not needed to appeal for the black vote and they WILL have to hit him hard at some point, besides...

After all Bill and Hillary are much blacker than he is.

Gee, don’t the Obamaniacs know that the Democrat Party in general, and the Clintons in particular, OWN all the black people in America? Who do they think they are, huh?

"You know what will get a lot of respect from me? An edict from EITHER of them to anyone who follows them that says “Of the 300,000,000 people in this country, I am in the top 5 in the running for President. I am not a victim. Do not cry racism / sexism in my name. “

You would respect this, and so would I. The average Democratic Party voter would vote for the other candidate, the one that didn't say it. Because they believe in the power of being a victim.

If they didn't, neither Obama or Hillary! would have gotten this far....

Maybe BLACKS!!!! will finally open their closed eyes to the FACT that Dimocrats DID NOT FREE THEM. That DIMOCRATS put them into slavery, kept them in slavery, and it took a Republican to free them, and Republicans to pass the legislation to get them the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. NOT DIMOCRATS, BLACKS!!! But Republicans. The KKK is a Dimocrat bunch and the DIMOCRATS HAVE THE ONLY KKK person in the US Senate, YET BLACKS IGNORE IT!!!! Blacks are the ATM card of the Dimocrat party. Just hand them a few free bucks and they turn their VERY LIVES over to Dimocrats. Right, you da man, you da woman. You suck up to Dimocrats and they are the ones who have USED YOU for their gain and you cannot see it. All in the name of getting free stuff.

I had several black friends in my Army days who knew this. They got it. They understood what Dimocrats were doing to them and how DIMOCRATS used them. They voted for Republicans. Even when their families at home were still lining up and block voting for Dimocrats.

Sen. Barack Obama’s image in the media as a “fairy tale”

Bill’s coded message to Obama that they have proof that Obama is a closet homosexual.

Just when the GOP is looking like the more disorganized party, along come the Democrats making themselves out to be even worse - when Billy made his “fairy tale” comments, and Hillary acted like she did, I knew the mud was really going to start flying. The Clintons just handed South Carolina to Obama.

“Dr King’s dream began to be realised when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done.” HRC

.....

Let’s also remember that Lyndon Baines Johnson “couldn’t pass” anything...he could sign it, but it was REPUBLICANS in congress that passed it over the objections and fillabusters led by none other than Hillary’s mentor Robert KKK Byrd!! Jeez! Can’t these people get anything right???

The whole black community is Sister Soulja - and some think it’s not intentional?

Would you not you like to be a fly on the wall and listen to Bill, Hillary and their aides grind their teeth trying to figure out how to beat Obama with brining race into it.

Think of it this way -- we're all talking race again - ever since Iowa.

Obama was a person running for President who just happened to be black.

Now, with the help of the Clintons, he's a black man who just happens to be running for President.

It's a big difference. Let's see him defend the honor of MLK one more time against white pols like LBJ - -and boom - he's in the box. Move over Sister Soulja...

World upside down. In the rest of the world, people compete to be the strongest. In the West, people compete to be the most victimized.

(This little show is gonna be good.)

If you think this is good, wait until Obama is the Dem candidate next fall. The attacks on the Clintons will pale in comparison to what the Republican candidate will go through. The full brunt of the liberal establishment will be used to vilify the white Republican candidate. This is just the warm-up.

Damn! That’s a great selection!

You're obviously not describing the slate of candidates for the Democratic Party nomination.

I agree. Would it not be wonderful if black voters invited Pub candidates for forums in every state. Without pandering, would not the God guys be able to stress family values, free enterprise, national security, SS changes, tax cuts especially for small businesses instead of more welfare and handouts??? It would be wonderful if the black voter, instead of voting zombie-like for Dem libs, gave Pub candidates time and invitations to try to convince them that the Dems have been playing them for all these years!

That is not correct either. The Civil Rights Bill was passed in 1964, 4 yrs before King was assassinated. What you are thinking of is the expansion of the War on Poverty legislation, passed in 1968 following King’s murder.
