(1/9) If the eventual Republican presidential nominee has a record including one or more of the following non-conservative positions, would you vote for him anyway or which item specifically would most likely be a deal killer?
Three or more liberal positions on critical issues would definitely kill the deal in my book.
The way I see it:
X = Candidate holds or has record of non-conservative position. W = Weak or mixed positions.
Candidate | Abortion/ Gay Rights | Open Borders/ Amnesty | Gun Control | Tax and Spend | Nanny Stater | Untrustworthy Spinner Flip flopper |
Campaign Finance Reform |
|
|||||||
Giuliani | X | X | X | - | - | X | X |
|
|||||||
Huckabee | - | X | - | X | X | X | W |
|
|||||||
Hunter | - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
|
|||||||
McCain | W | X | W | W | W | X | X |
|
|||||||
Romney | X | X | W | W | X | X | X |
|
|||||||
Thompson | - | - | - | - | - | - | X |
|
Thompson and Hunter are most conservative, but I prefer Thompson because Hunter's going to have a tough time making himself known and jumping from the House to the Presidency.
Please correct me where I'm wrong.
I swear I’m no conspiracy theorist, but it makes me wonder what’s up when there’s really not a spit’s worth of difference between the front-runner candidates from either side, not really, and the media and the leadership of both parties is pushing these “centrist” candidates onto the electorate from both sides, and ignoring the candidates from either side who more fully represent their respective ideologies.
Thank you for agreeing with my main point. As to Fred’s ideological purity, he voted for many immigration compromises in the Senate, but worse, failed the test of leadership when every knew the system was broken and needed fixing, if for no other reason than to preserve the rule of law. Instead of serving his country in the Senate, at a time when conservatives were needed most, under conditions of war, Fred left for Hollywood.
Fred sided with McCain, for the egregious restrictions on free speech. I could go on about Fred’s record, but you would think that I am Fred bashing, I am not. I am making a point about ideological purity and the real compromises which we all make in the course of our lives.
Fred has a 100% pro-life voting record. Actions speak louder than words.
Is that CFR for Campaign Finance Reform or in Fred's case, Council on Foreign Relations?
McCain plays a good conservative at election time. That man is so untrustworthy, he’d probably chose as his VP ... Teddy Kennedy. He will push me to the November Fishing trip.
Only 3 cauci/ primaries in and the LIBS are already playing the race/Gender card. Without those cards, they have nothing but Marx’s Manifesto.
To take both cards away, maybe the ultimate GOP VP choice would be ... Michelle Malkin! I’d PAY PER VIEW to see those debates!
Yep. Rick is a good guy and it was a sad day when my state traded him for the loser Casey.
I agree about global warming,all those listed issues make me grit my teeth,but if we let the border stay wide open,dems will have 100 million voters soon and we will never elect anyone again,to help fight against all the other bad issues ,beside all the other problems it causes with crime,budgets etc.
Hunter’s my man. Just look at his stats, they mirror mine.
Hunter and Thompson are the only two candidates worthy of the Republican nomination, based on this chart.
OUR state certainly lost it’s mind. I think a lot of dead people and illegal votes went into the hopper for the democrats in ‘06
Do you believe Fred could honestly change his stance on this one issue? Do you think Mitt can honestly change his positions on the majority of the important Conservative issues? One seems far more likely to be true than the other.
I was just curious how you see it.
LLS
Then it’s the country’s loss. The day when conservatives don’t recognize and support a true conservative has arrived. Now days it’s the lesser of two evils or I’ll hold my nose that’s the buzz words.
What makes you believe that any of the current crop of R’s other than Hunter and Thompson would appoint judges any more conservative than those Hillary would appoint??
Based on the crap they have pulled I don’t believe they will.
These RINO’s have sh*t in their own nest and you cannot believe a word any of them say.
Corrections on Mike Huckabee
The X’s on Mike Huckabee’s record for 1. Open Borders/Amnesty, 2. Tax and Spend, 3. Nanny Stater are inappropriate.
I understand that he could possibly be given a “W” in each of those categories, at least in the minds of some.
In Huckabee’s Favor:
1. Huckabee signed the Norquist pledge against raising taxes.
2. Huckabee is an experienced budget balancer (his Arkansas record is comparable to Reagan’s California record).
3. Huckabee is campaigning on the themes of reduced government and the 10th Amendment.
4. As previously related, Huckabee has one of the more stringent border/immigration plans — basically Fred Thompson’s plan, except it has teeth.
Agreeing with what main point ? I said you have no proof or evidence how he would’ve voted in 2006.
BTW, if he was still serving in the Senate today, he would’ve broken his promise. 2 terms and out. He was elected to 2 terms and he retired. I think it’s also disingenuous to say he “left for Hollywood.” A lot of people tried to get him to go back on his word in ‘02 and get him to run again. He had a horrific family tragedy and was sick to death of the corruption in DC and nobody wanting to do a damn thing about it. He would’ve had to have had a singular lust for power to have remained there. He never had that, and that’s why I have no hesistation to support him. He walked away from the power without batting an eye.
“I believe Thompson has disavowed CFR...”
His opponents have disavowed a lot of things, too. How come they don’t get the benefit of the doubt?
Last comment of three:
I don’t see a column of “Ally to Israel.”
Fred Thompson is in favor of the present “Annapolis” talks (land for “peace,” including parts of Jerusalem).
Mike Huckabee is standing for any “Palestinian” state to be outside of Israel’s borders.
How many of you agree with unspun that Huckabee is NOT a tax and spend nanny stater?
Huckster hiked taxes in AR more than Clinton did as Governor. His record on immigration was a singular abomination. He did the dirty work for Tyson in keeping their factories fully stocked with illegals, and was happy to make the entire state of Arkansas a sanctuary for them and slave labor for Tyson — and he had the unvarnished nerve to insult and browbeat Christians for opposing him.
Huckster is, pardon my French, full of merde.
I nominate your #140 for post of the day!
