Thank you for agreeing with my main point. As to Fred’s ideological purity, he voted for many immigration compromises in the Senate, but worse, failed the test of leadership when every knew the system was broken and needed fixing, if for no other reason than to preserve the rule of law. Instead of serving his country in the Senate, at a time when conservatives were needed most, under conditions of war, Fred left for Hollywood.
Fred sided with McCain, for the egregious restrictions on free speech. I could go on about Fred’s record, but you would think that I am Fred bashing, I am not. I am making a point about ideological purity and the real compromises which we all make in the course of our lives.

Agreeing with what main point ? I said you have no proof or evidence how he would’ve voted in 2006.

BTW, if he was still serving in the Senate today, he would’ve broken his promise. 2 terms and out. He was elected to 2 terms and he retired. I think it’s also disingenuous to say he “left for Hollywood.” A lot of people tried to get him to go back on his word in ‘02 and get him to run again. He had a horrific family tragedy and was sick to death of the corruption in DC and nobody wanting to do a damn thing about it. He would’ve had to have had a singular lust for power to have remained there. He never had that, and that’s why I have no hesistation to support him. He walked away from the power without batting an eye.
